fair and square 2
This is my 2nd sample of the fair and square quilt pattern. It's made up from all kona cottons except for the backing. For this round I used more-comfortable-to-me light sashing. It's kona ash, and it has been in my stash for awhile. I love it's subtle color and how it lets the darker colors shine. I used 5 pieced blocks in this version, which were made from jelly roll strips. I just love how flexible this quilt pattern is! It uses 6.5" unfinished blocks, so any pieced block that finishes at 6" could be used. 9 patches would be fun. Or so would pinwheels!
It's fascinating to me to see how much changing the colors and a few minor alterations really changes the look and feel of a quilt. That was part of the beauty of teaching this pattern at the work party-seeing so many different versions coming together in a few short hours. I could get used to that!
Up tomorrow, a plaid version! :)
If you would like to win a packet of squares in similar colors along with the pattern to make this quilt for yourself, please leave me a comment. I'll pick a winner in a few days. US residents only this time please.

I would love to win that pattern. It looks so simple and beautiful. I would to see that with a nine patch. I think your plaid one would be neat also.
Wow - you are on a roll!
I would just love a tutorial on this one. It looks simple but lovely!
Wow-loved the dark version, but I think I like this one better! It looks white on my computer screen but I love Kona ash, so I'm thinking it's even more beautiful than what I'm seeing!
I like this! It's hard to find quilts that look appropriate for boys. Thanks for sharing!
I really liked the last quilt, but this looks so pretty - I think is my new favorite! It's got a peaceful look to it - kind of like being at the ocean :)

Wow. What a beautiful quilt!
Looks great! Would love to make one :)
You bet I would love to win. Simple but fun. I like it!

I haven't been sewing quilts since the birth of my first baby a few months ago, but this one has my pedal foot itching! Very nice, and great blog too!
You're absolutely right...different fabrics, different colors completely change the look! I do like the first one you posted...the dark one. Great work, AmandaJean!
I love the understated simplicity of this. Beautiful.
Oh holy cow! Seeing yesterday's quilt, and now today's version, has me longing to make this quilt--and jump it to the head of the line of quilts on my "to do" and "in progress" lists. A packet of squares would surely do the trick. Thanks for the giveaway and the inspiration.
I'm really liking the simplicity and versatility of this pattern. Guess getting out of our comfort zones can really pay off!
Cutting the fabric is my least favorite part, I'd love to win the squares.
Both of the fair and square quilts are terrific. Minor changes do make a huge difference. Beautiful work.
That pattern is quite appealing. It would look nice in 9 patches or pinwheels or small stars. Please put me in the drawing - and thanks for sharing.
The quilt is beautiful, only a fool would ignore the opportunity to win the pattern and material. Thanks for the giveaway.
Beautiful quilt! I have always wanted to work with solids, but just haven't yet. A packet of solid squares would give me the kick that I need. Thanks. :)
I love this! I'm plotting a white yellow grey one!!
So simple, and yet beautifully elegant. Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful pattern. Works for boys and girls. Poor boys often get left out in the quilting world. Thanks for the chance to win. My fingers are crossed.
I love this quilt. My teenage sons want new quilts and this would be perfect.
I really like the colors you've been using. I like that these quilts are different from ones you usually make. Its good to stretch! :) I hope I get it!
Love the quilt - been looking for a good pattern for my son and this one would be perfect.

You amaze and inspire me for your speed and ingenuity - yet another great colour scheme. I'm looking forward to the plaid version - that might just be the right choice for dad - plus i have heaps within my stash (i've had them for years). Well done AmandaJean

love that by changing out fabric this quilt takes on a new personality! surprised myself by liking the black sashing yesterday.
Absolutely gorgeous!! As always, I am envious of your stippling! I really need to practice mine. Once I finish a top I am always so afraid I'll ruin it with the quilting... so I fall back into in-the-ditch and diagonal lines.
I was so glad to find you were blogging again! Thank-you for the inspiration!
Love this quilt!
Love this quilt!

Beautiful quilt--love the colors you chose!!
I really like the addition of the pieced blocks....visually interesting and causes the eye to move across the quilt. I am slowly but surely increasing my stash of solids and see the day coming where that will be what I work in to the exclusion of prints.
Love this pattern, and I really liked the quilt you posted yesterday with the dark sashing for a more maculine quilt.
This is beautiful! I have a black jelly roll that's been sitting around, would be fun to use with clothing scraps for a memory quilt!
