i got back to work on my spiderweb quilt yesterday. it is good "wind down" sewing. it's fun to play with different fabric combinations. and it's a great way to use up those small pieces of fabric that i can't part with for some reason.
i've decided that i am going to make it a twin size, so i'm just about 1/3 done with the top of the quilt. if it takes me the rest of the year to piece it, i'm ok with that. i'm enjoying the process. and i'm also thinking i need to make one in PINK, as there is no shortage of pink scraps in this house.

A monochromic spiderweb would be cute.
ReplyDeleteI have to find the instructions for this quilt: I love intricate work and I have so many little fabrics I can't part with, because I'm insanely thrifty with fabric and because of all the kids' precious little outfits that are all worn out except for a little spot here and there. :o)

ReplyDeletelove this one. i think i am going to try it next. i love the way it looks. yours is so stunning, i have set aside green, pink, and orange scraps. how do you think you will quilt yours? that is my only concern with mine. i have seen it quilted around the stars, but i kind of want stipple. do you think that would be a mistake?

ReplyDeleteI made a Spiderweb quilt (twin-size) just like yours three years ago. I, too, used a white background. It has a blue backing and binding. It is the perfect size for the sofa.

WOW! I think this is the coolest quilt I've seen lately. I've seen these spider web quilt blocks before, but never all laid out like this! I think I'll have to try some now.
ReplyDeleteI save so many teeny tiny scraps and usually just move them from one bin to another - I just can't part with them. Thanks for the link to the tutorial - this seems like the perfect solution for using them. Also - I really enjoy paper piecing. Any reason why this wouldn't work with a lightweight muslin foundation?

I'm with Christina. I have never really liked the Spiderweb quilts that I have seen, but I love the brightness of yours. Just goes to show you that you can make anything look good if you use the right fabric. Can't wait to see it done. And I must confess that I caved today. I bought six yards of fabric at Joann's. I have walked out without it several times, and today I succumbed. (Hangs head in shame) But it is so pretty. = ) And it has been like 85 days since I bought fabric.

ReplyDeleteThis is totally unrelated to todays blog, but my computer crashed and I lost everything. I am trying to re-piece my favorites. I have found you, but I think I acquired a link from you and I can't remember the name of the site. Did you have a link to a video done by a gal, I think her name could've been Judy, and she was demo-ing how she quilts, which is kind of in a grid and she quilts a section and sort of scribbles up and down up and down, etc, all over within the grid, then she moves on to the next area and does the same.

ReplyDeleteI see several places where you put a light-value fabric directly against the white. Does it read as distinctly different IRL? It's hard to see it in the small photo, but the hi-res one shows a fairly good contrast b/c of the patterns. Just wondering how distinct the spiderweb edge appears where that occurs.

ReplyDeleteI was so intrigued with this pattern that I had to go look at the tutorial. Then, the way that Bonnie made her "kite" piece just made me want to try it. So, I have 1/2 of a block done, and I'm off to go do the other half. This is more fun than I thought it would be! I love string quilts to start with, but even the sewing part is fun too!

I love this! I was making one (a really long time ago), but it was paper piecing. I think I like it better this way.
ReplyDeleteI love that you said you are enjoying the process and taking your time. I think sometimes we do things in a hurry too much and don't enjoy making some quilts as much as we should. Deadlines make it too much like work.
