Happy September and welcome to finish it up Friday! It was nice to step away for a bit, but I'm very happy to be back from my social media break!
My little neighbor girl turned 6 at the end of July, so I sewed up this personalized pillow for her. I used a standard sized bed pillow for the form and scraps, of course, for the patchwork. (The squares were cut at 4 1/2", so they finish at 4".)
I used this cute heart print from my stash to make an envelope back for the pillow, so it's removable and washable. A very important feature! :)
I stitched light aqua lines on a piece of cream fabric to create "notebook" paper, then I did some free motion quilting to add her name to the pillow. I had to let go of my perfectionist tendencies, which is always hard to do, but I think I managed to find a good balance.
Her mom appreciates handmade quite a lot, so I figured she was a good candidate for a handmade gift. Plus, it was a fun to use up some novelty scraps!
Now, it's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thank you for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Your "notebook paper" is a brilliant idea! What a nice way to personalize this lovely pillow. : )
I am glad you are back and for totally selfish reasons - when I link up with you my page views go bonkers!
You are blessed to have a little girl in your life (mine is 28).
So glad you had a good break. Stepping away for a while is such a good idea.
What a cute pillow! I love the way you personalized it for her.
The name looks like pure perfection to me! What a nice touch! And welcome back--I missed you!
What little girl (or even grown up girl) wouldn't love to have such a pretty pillow! Love the patchwork pretties and the personalized patch. Hope you had a great blogging vacation and find yourself feeling relaxed and recharged. It's great to have you back!
Great pillow for a little girl! Glad you are back from vacation!
Love the pillow idea of using a regular bed sized pillow!
Those hearts for the backing are so sweet. I'm sure if mom appreciates it, daughter will, too!
I love it, It´s beautiful!!!!
It´s a good idea
Oh that is so sweet - I love the notebook fabric - what a clever idea!
Welcome back! Wonderful pillow, great idea for kids. I am really enjoying your book, BTW.
Cheers,

Amanda, I love the way you created notebook paper and I plan to shamelessly use the idea someday. Genius.
Really cute gift -- I bet Mary Clare loves her pillow. :-)
This is such a sweet gift. And welcome back :)
Welcome back to BlogLand!! I've missed your posts.
Lucky little girl to receive such a special gift, stitched with love!
I love the idea of using a standard bed pillow. I usually use 14" or 20" square pillows but this is lovely!
Such a cute gift! I have been hoarding my scraps of 'notebook' fabric' now I can try this idea too. Welcome back.
I haven't stepped away from my blog since I started in 2010 (I think) but then I don't have any little ones around demanding my time, attention, and energy. So happy to hear yours was a good one. My favorite thing on this quilt is the ingenious paper lines. I wondered where I might find that fabric...turns out we all have it! Thanks so much for sharing the idea. Oh, I checked out your envelope link and discovered that I've been doing the "right" way all along. :) So happy to have you back!
Welcome back!
Look at you! Back from your break with a banner Friday finish. Woohoo! I can only aspire to FMQ as well as you do. That's a finely honed skill.
Beautiful pillow for that lucky girl! I made a burrito pillow case out of that Belle fabric in yours for the 6 year old next door to me. Then she asked for a quilt out of it because her baby quilt was too small for her big girl bed. Who can refuse a winsome 6 year old? Now that she's 7, we're making a quilt for her brother. Next generation quilter!
I love it, it's so happy!
It's nice to have you back!!! Sweet pillow for a young girl!
Awesome work, i love the way you wrote the little girl´s name. It´s a very happy pillow!
What a clever idea making a notebook paper block for her name. That is so sweet. I love all the scary fabrics and the print you chose for the back. Very little girly!
