Welcome to finish it up Friday!
I managed to complete another quilt top this week! Hurray!
I selected this bundle of fabric several weeks ago as a part of my mighty lucky challenge on
effective fabric selection. I will admit, it's an unlikely combination of fabrics. It's definitely out of my box. I was anxious to cut it up and sew it all back together, just to see what would happen.
Once I got into the project, I was pleased to see that all the colors and patterns worked well together. I was especially delighted with the pops of yellow in the mix. In fact, I ended up cutting additional yellow squares a few different times, because I really liked what they added.
Yesterday when I completed the quilt top, I held it up and I thought, "geez, this quilt is really long!" After some calculating, I realized that I had made the quilt 18 rows long rather than 15 rows long. Doh! My quilt top was 12" too long!!!
To fix it, I decided to add two more columns to the quilt, one on each side. Math mishaps happen. Haha! I just had to laugh at myself!!! It's a good thing I had plenty of extra fabric to round things out. :)
Now the quilt top measures 56" x 72", which is much more proportionate! I'm looking forward to quilting this one up!

ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful - colors are joyful and there are so many fun prints to look at. Is the darker purple polka dot a Michael Miller?
ReplyDeleteFor your challenge this month, I am taking a precut charm square pack that I have had forever. It is rather on the dark side tho. It is a Michael Miller and has that purple dot that you are using - if not that one, then something similar. Anyway, I am trying to add to it from my stash to brighten it up and to add some lighter values. Yikes, easier said than done. Thanks for providing a fun lesson on color this month!

ReplyDeleteIt's good to step outside your comfort zone sometimes. You are right, the yellow really adds pop to the quilt. It's really lovely.

ReplyDeleteSo bright and pretty! Math mistakes....glad to know there are others out there. Once, a quilter told me when she is quilting and has to rip out stitches, she closes up shop and walks away till another day. I told her that if I did that, I would never get any quilting done! (She was not impressed, but others had a giggle.) :)

ReplyDeleteSometimes the simplest patterns are the prettiest. The simple squares are beautiful! Needs a nice loopy quilting to balance out the lines. Nicely done!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I was wondering do you use pre-cut pieces like this: https://www.etsy.com/shop/madewithpleasure or do you cut everything yourself? I try to use pre cut as much as possible, save me time and it is very precise. But when I have orginal design ideas I have to cut them myself :)

Haha, you're so funny, I would have probably taken the 3 extra rows off and made pillowcases with them, but you simply add more columns! :-)
