This quilt is about as simple as they come...6" squares (cut size), sewn together to make a simple patchwork quilt. I love that quilts don't need to be complicated to be pretty! I've been collecting these squares over a period of several years. It's fun/crazy/interesting to see how much my fabric tastes have changed.
I quilted it with a simple stipple last month while I was at quilt retreat with some friends. It was a nice, easy activity to do while visiting. Quilting a single quilt is also much more contained than scrap quilting is...what a mess that makes!
I tend to shy away from dark, saturated fabrics, but I'm learning to embrace them. They add so much interest to a quilt! I used a few prints of good neighbors fabric for the backing and a violet polka dot for the binding. I machine bound it for a quick and easy finish. (I forgot how much I like to machine bind!) It definitely takes a little practice, but it's a good option to have in your repertoire...and it is very durable.
I'm so happy to have this one complete. It's a twin size measuring about 66" x 88". It's scrap project # 179! The best thing is, I haven't replaced it with another work in progress.....yet! :)
I also wanted to mention that Craftsy is having a big sale this weekend! 50% off ALL classes! The sale starts today and ends on Monday. If you had your eye on a class, this would be a good time to purchase!
Now, it's your turn! Please link up your finishes! Thank you for joining me for finish it up Friday!
Oh it does look wonderfully summery and colourful! I know what you mean about quilts not needing to be complicated to be beautiful - sometimes it's nice just to let the fabric shine!
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for simple patchwork -- it never goes out of style! Will you keep this fun finish for yourself or gift it to a friend?
ReplyDeletesuch a cute summery quilt - I need to use up some of my charms like this
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful! So glad you were able to quilt during your break, but glad to have you back!!
ReplyDeleteI love this simple quilt. It is so colorful and comforting. Love the quilting. I have to get brave soon and try out FMQ, instead of my normal straight line.
ReplyDeleteSimple design and so pretty.

Love the simplicity; cute, cute!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Lovely patchwork finish - so simple but very pretty.
ReplyDeleteQuilting with friends has got to be the best way to socialize, that I can think of. What a great mix of colours! Your scrappy quilt is a delight and the polka dot binding provides such a sweet frame for this fun quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love this one - it's so happy!! I like to challenge myself and increase my skills with complicated quilts, but I think I will always love simple patchwork.
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorites - simple patchwork and polka dots. Well done!!
ReplyDeleteLove that quilt - awesome!
ReplyDeleteMost of the quilts I make these days are for children or babies. I always choose to machine bind because of the durability of it. My grandchildren drag their quilts all over, take them to my house, take them camping, etc and they are washed frequently.
ReplyDeleteSturdiness wins for a child's quilt.
Your quilt is gorgeous ! I love those kinds of quilts they truly tell a story or just in any place and cheers it up ..
ReplyDeleteI'd love to just sit and rummage through your fabric stash! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI missed your Friday finish post during August, but am so happy to see you back this week!
ReplyDeleteLove your scrappy quilt. Memories of all your previous projects!
ReplyDeleteI love your patchwork quilt. I need to make one of these to bust some of my stash. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt! It has been a long time since I made a simple patchwork quilt, but I'm thinking it might soon be time again :) Thanks for hosting again!

ReplyDeleteGlad you're back! What great quilt and I just love the binding! Thank you for the great link party!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bright and fun quilt!
ReplyDeleteI am going to remind myself of your observation the next time I'm at the quilting stage (usually my less-favourite step) ... at least it's self contained!
ReplyDeleteFun, colorful quilt! Your family will enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming back. We all missed you--I certainly did, at least! It's nice to mix up our schedules every now and then. There's nothing like a good shake-up to reset priorities and spend time with the kiddos. Hope you had a enjoyable break and got some sewing/quilting done.
As wonderful as some of the complicated looking patchwork designs are, I really do believe that 'less is more' with a quilt to really use as a snuggly, comforter.
ReplyDeleteThis is striking in that the fabrics play so nicely together and yet have a scrappy look to themselves.
Love it : )
Love all the variety in the fabrics. What color thread did you use for the quilting? That decision (thread color) often stops me in my tracks when I have finished a quilt top and am ready to quilt it. I suppose that decision gets easier with more practice.
ReplyDeleteFantastisk πΈ ππππ
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful, I would love to be able to look at all the fabrics more closely. I did try to find your pincushions patterns but failed miserably. Any chance of a pointer please?
ReplyDeleteI think simple is best most times - great colours and yes the saturated colours bring out the best in the rest:))
ReplyDeleteIt's bright and cheery! And what a great stash buster!
ReplyDeleteSo fun, bright and happy. What a great finish. Simple goes a long way.
ReplyDeleteYou are right that the dark colors add such a nice pop to the visual. You are making me want to pull out my 36 patch blocks (an old WIP) and play with their placement for layout. Hmmm. Maybe later today after my labor is done. :)
