There are a million things to do this time of year, but it's necessary to get some sewing time in to retain a bit of sanity, right? At least that's what I tell myself! Today's sanity project was making these little zip pouches. I've already jumped in and started tackling the huge bag of scraps from Mary. Hurray! Since so many of you asked, I plan to do a few blog posts (in the new year) about where to start, how to sort them, how to store them, etc.
It's hard to tell from the photo, but the insides of these two little pouches are laminated fabric scraps.
Look at that little gusset! I boxed out the corners 5/8". It felt a little ridiculous, but it turned out so cute! I may have squealed when I turned it right side out.
The two little ones will be coin purses and the other one may end up being a gift, although I REALLY want to keep it!!! We will see how that goes! These are scrap project #96/101.
I'm getting SO close to finishing my 101 scrap challenge. If all goes well, I should finish by year end, which would be so awesome. Then, I need to come up with another challenge to fill the gap. Any suggestions are welcome!
Happy Monday to you!
Where did you get the adorable penguin fabric? :)
ReplyDeleteSuch cute little pouches!!!!! I could make zippered pouches all day! And that bag of scraps is so exciting - can't wait to see other goodies that are in there. As for the next challenge - I'm thinking of doing a charity sewing challenge for next year. Either pillowcases or zippered pouches.
ReplyDeleteI like them! I was able to get some sewing done this weekend, too, and made a small wall hanging. I have never made zippered pouches but I should try it. I may not be able to get much more than that done over the holidays, with husband and boys at home! Merry Christmas, girl!
ReplyDeleteI think you need to hold on to that penguin pouch for comic relief. I can't help but bust out a smile when I look at it!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm thrilled with the progress you've make on your scrap challenge, I'll be a bit sad when you reach the end. It's been a fun journey to read about.
So stinkin' cute!! I really should try my hand at zippy pouches one of these days.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I tried one of these, my zipper didn't come out nice. Quilting I can do, zippers not so much. Your zipper looks fantastic, and the gusset is genius. Merry Christmas Crazy Mom! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
ReplyDeleteYou can do it Amanda Jean!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas
I do love a teeny pouch! Yes, one needs to sneak in some sewing time.
ReplyDeleteHow about challenging yourself to use up that entire bag of scraps Mary gave you? :) Or what about doing a pillow a week? sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteThank you for your fun and inspiring blog, and the time you invest to share! Suggestion for a new "project" (not that I think you need one!): Take a Kona jelly roll of solid colors (or a Kona swatch card) and use each strip/color to inspire and include in whatever whimsy - there's 40 projects... or 157 to 243 depending on which swatch card you use!
ReplyDeleteLove the pouches, especially the penguins.
ReplyDeleteHow about a series of small challenges: ten things to do with zippers, ten with buttons, ten with ricrac, etc.
I don't think I could give away the cute penguin pouch! It's too sweet! Unfortunately I have the flu so not only can I not get everything ready for the holidays (baking cookies, grocery shopping, cleaning the house for guests arriving tomorrow) I can't even get out of bed to pet fabric:(
ReplyDeleteHow timely to see these pop up! I made my very first ever zippy pouch yesterday afternoon!! It is a whopper tho, at 13"x8"...I used a 12" inch zipper that I must have gotten in a former lifetime!lol, it really has been floating around for about 25 yrs, and I did not want to try and adjust it on my first zippy pouch go round :) I have no doubt whatsoever that you will finish up 5 more scrap projects! Congratulations on a fantastic year of finishes!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe these pouches should count as #96, 97 and 98 :-)
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see those scraps from the past made into sweet things!😘
ReplyDeleteI just saw this fun post that would be perfect for little scraps. Would be so cute on a bag as well! http://www.rileyblakedesigns.com/cutting-corners/2014/12/22/hey-doll-sew-along/
ReplyDeleteI love your little pouches. I had to laugh about the squealing. I do the same thing and have been known to say "I'm so proud of me! " when something turns out good. :)
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! Thank you for all the inspiration this year. I love your projects. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteYes you DID Squeel! Nice gusset! I heard it in my sewing room when I was finishing up some Xmas gifts. Cute pouches and such a good use of remnants left from other projects.
ReplyDeleteAw, I'll miss your scrap projects, but I'm sure you'll come up with something else awesome to entertain and inspire all of us. Have a Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute, especially the penguin pouch! Merry Christmas to you & your family!

ReplyDeleteAmanda Jean--Keep 'em all! You can't break up that cute little family of pouches!
Loooove those pouches, especially the penguin one! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you for all the inspiration and joy you have brought me this year. Best wishes for a new year filled with health, happiness and fun sewing projects!
ReplyDeleteI better go update the crazymom quilts scrap Pinterest board!
ReplyDeleteI say-let's go double or nothing for the 101 scraps and maybe an ongoing scrap along where people can either make some of their favorites that you have done already and suggest new ones.
Or, what about 101 scrappy blocks, mini quilts or mug rugs...or a series of pillow covers...or what about making the challenge to use exactly 101 scraps in a quilt top?
My name is Jennifer martins, from USA I never believed in love spells or magic until i met this spell caster once when i went to Africa in February this year on a business summit. I meant a man who’s name is DR.madurai he is really powerful and could help cast spells to bring back one’s gone, lost, misbehaving lover and magic money spell or spell for a good job or luck spell .I’m now happy & a living testimony cos the man i had wanted to marry left me 3 weeks before our wedding and my life was upside down cos our relationship has been on for 6years. I really loved him, but his mother was against us and he had no good paying job. So when i met this spell caster, i told him what happened and explained the situation of things to him. At first i was undecided, skeptical and doubtful, but i just gave it a try. And in 7 days when i returned to usa, my boyfriend (now husband) called me by himself and came to me apologizing that everything had been settled with his mom and family and he got a new job interview so we should get married. I didn’t believe it cos the spell caster only asked for my name and my boyfriends name and all i wanted him to do. Well we are happily married now and we are expecting our little kid, and my husband also got the new job and our lives became much better. His email is maduraitemple@yahoo.com :or call +2347067607073
ReplyDeleteI need to make some zipper pouches when I get home...they do make great gifts.
ReplyDeleteYou have inspired me so much with your 101 Scrap Projects that I plan on starting up in the new year with my own scrap projects. I have so, so many of them.
