Nap Like an Egyptian quilt

Welcome to finish it up Friday! Today is also my day on the RJR Solids Blog Hop brought to you by Brenda of Pink Castle Fabrics and RJR Fabrics.
I had a chance to play with the cotton supreme solids from RJR and I was impressed. The fabric has a nice weight to it (not too thick, not too thin), it is easy to work with (very little fraying, which is super!) and the quality is fantastic (very smooth with no blemishes). I was also impressed with the colors--so vibrant and pretty!
It took me several weeks to decide what to use these pretties for! After much deliberation, I combined the solid bundle with some Anna Maria fabrics from my stash. I sewed them up using Cheryl's pattern Nap Like an Egyptian from Sunday Morning Quilts.
I usually don't work with this many saturated colors at once, (or triangles, for that matter!) but it was a nice change of pace. You may have noticed that some orange fabric worked it's way into the mix. After several blocks things were looking kind of....predictable. The orange "stirs the pot" just a bit, but in a good way!
I quilted it with straight lines to echo the large triangles. I washed and dried it and it puckered up in an unattractive manner. So, I went back and quilted around each small center triangle, then buried about a million thread ends. The additional quilting seemed to help tame the puckering. I could probably add even more quilting, but I think I'm done! After making 200+ quilts I learn a lesson every time. (Unfortunately, some of those lessons have to be learned more than once. Doh!)
The quilt measures about 63" x 70" or so. It's nice lap size and it's already super soft and snuggly!

I'm happy to be offering up a fat quarter bundle of the Cotton Supreme Solids to one of my lucky readers. This bundle features the same solid fabrics I used in my quilt (plus white).
The specific colors (from top to bottom) are:
#33 Optical White
#181 Rhododendron
#348 Neon (it IS bright!)
#349 Aloe Verde
#292 Turks and Caicos
#328 Bora Bora
#333 Bougainvillea
#341 Stormy Night

If you would like to win this bundle, please leave me a comment in this post. You can tell me what your favorite day of the week is, your favorite color, your favorite snack, your favorite beverage, your favorite fabric line, your favorite WIP....anything along those lines....just don't say "pick me", please! Thanks a bunch. :)

Now, if you would like to link up your finishes, it's time! Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

Great colors and I like the mix of colors. I like putting colors together next to each other that you would never think would work. They usually play nice together :0) I've been using a lot of Joel Dewberry fabrics lately and I really like them. I'm doing a herringbone quilt as you go quilt (tutorial from Maureen Cracknell). I love your Sunday Morning Quilts book and have been looking through it to find a quilt to bust some stash! Thanks for the chance to win! shopgirl7232(at)yahoo(dot)com

Your quilt is beautiful, I love the bright colors. I think I would have to say my favorite day do the week has to be Sunday. It is the day that I relax, spend time with family and reaffirm my committment to God by attending church and having fellowship with others there.

Gorgeous bright quilt!! My favorite color is rainbow (as my 4-year old says!), but if I have to pick one, I love blues right now. Turquoise, teal (ocean blues), to bright blues, all the way to stormy dark midnight blues. I'm in the planning phase of making a Storm at Sea quilt for my dad, using... Blues!! :)

Lately, my favorite color seems to be a lime green..not sure why, but I like it! And my favorite day of the week seems to be the day I end up having off and have the house to myself for guilt free sewing!

I love this quilt! I was taught "back in the day" that all of your quilt fabrics had to be "matchy-matchy" to produce a beautiful quilt. They lied! Thanks for making such a gorgeous quilt!

My favorites seem to change a lot. I'm really in love with saturated colors, but I've been dipping my toe a little slowly. Not sure why. I think it feels so "big" to go bold, andi don't want to mess up!

My favorite day is Wed as I can go to my quilting circle; favorite color is purple; my favorite time of the day is 6 am to 10am, my house is quiet so I can check my blogs, do housework or sew. Missed you during your down time but completely understand.

My favorite drink is Coca-Cola. Unfortunately, I rarely drink it since I'm trying to watch my weight. The lo-cal stuff just doesn't do it for me; it's full test or nothing. I always have been of the opinion that if everyone in the world drank Coke, the world might, indeed, achieve "perfect harmony."
PS: Your triangle quilt is inspirational.

Good morning! I am sitting here with a cup of coffee at my elbow, looking over the lake which is smooth as glass this morning and thinking about my day. Today I am driving to a nearby town to pick up a full sized quilting frame that is being gifted to my by a total stranger ... A hand quilter like me who can no longer use it. She wants it to go to someone who will enjoy it as her late husband made it for her years ago. She is elderly and has discovered long arm quilting, which she can do with her stiff fingers easier than the hand work. My favourite things are mornings like this.

I missed the Friday link up while you were on sabbatical. So many talented people! Thank you for hosting it again.

Opening your blog, I saw your Nap like an Egyptian quilt and the visual beauty surprised me with a little squeal of glee. Oh, embarrassing. My husband asked if I was alright, I think he thought I choked on my coffee!

I am smitten with the unusual, yet traditional forms in quilting, like diamonds, hexies and kite shapes. I am loving triangles that are 60 degrees.

Thank you!
