It sure feels like a Monday here. Good gravy, I'm sick of this cold. Winter is starting to really wear on my nerves. It's too cold to go to school again, and in MN, that's saying something! No school tomorrow, either. We may have to go to school into July if things keep up in this vein.
Ok, on to happier things!
I finished this little Irish chain scrap quilt last week. It's made from the trimmings from this quilt. The 9 patches finish at 1 1/2"! I started making them to add to my mini nines quilt, but they looked so cute on their own, they became their own quilt. I hand quilted it, very primitively, I may add. I started quilting it at guild while I was listening to a lecture on what it takes to win a blue ribbon at a quilt show. Ha! The irony of that still makes me laugh. This quilt will win no ribbons, but I love it anyway! It measures 8.25" x 11.5". It's scrap project #47/101.
Last Friday I made another trip to SR Harris. I really shouldn't have gone (it's like an alcoholic walking into a bar, I tell ya'), but I went anyway. This was me showing restraint. (Are you laughing yet? I don't blame you!)
My daughter had a birthday party to go to on Saturday, so I sewed up a few little zip pouches for the occasion. I used this tutorial for the larger one (although I boxed out the corners with a 4" measurement instead of 2"). The little one is just a copy of a coin purse I made years ago. From what I hear, they were a hit. The little pouch was made from scraps, so it's #48. Almost half way to my goal of 101. Sweet!
Happy Monday to you!
48/101 is impressive! I wish I could be so productive. I keep being so inspired by what I see online that I almost find it impossible to know where to start with my own projects!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, Amanda Jean. No school here either. Again. Thanks for sharing some cheery eye candy with us today! Your little Irish Chain is sew cute. Love your stash additions. Fabric envy! And those little pouches.... No wonder they were a hit! Bright, fun and practical! Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh my, this little scrap quilt is so pretty. I have to make one tomorrow, I think.
ReplyDeleteThat tiny quilt is beyond small. How do you press your seams when they are that small?
ReplyDeleteI went to school today (it was an in-service day but we were one hour late). Tomorrow we are scheduled for a two hour late start. I don't plan going to school in July.
ReplyDeleteMondays already gone here :) and there's no way it's too cold in Australia for my little ones first day of prep tomorrow. I loooove the pouch, that fabric is gorgeous. hayleymstephens at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you're already at 48! It is in the 60's here, but we are in a drought if that makes you feel a little better.
ReplyDeletePretty little quilt, great fabric and wonderful pouch!
ReplyDeleteminis are the bomb! It's so cute. :)
ReplyDeleteI would definitely award your quilt a blue ribbon for pure cuteness!
ReplyDeleteI'll take a hangover from SR Harris any day!
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics are GORGEOUS!! We are all about zippered pouches here at the moment and we love yours. Such a great gift!
ReplyDeleteNo school here in western NB Canada either today. We've had more storm days this year than I can ever remember before...hope they don't have to tag days on to the end of the year....
ReplyDeleteReally cute, all of it. I see lots of polka dots in that pile as well as some adorable little foxes. Looks like it was worthwhile trip.
ReplyDeleteI'm also in MN. I can't believe this crazy cold weather. I love your blog, it was fun to visit. I'm hardly on mine, never have time to quilt or post it seems but its nice to see what others are doing.
ReplyDeleteyou are too funny-love your little mini 9-patch,even if it doesn't get a blue ribbon! I can't believe how fast you are getting the scrap projects done!
ReplyDeleteI think we have MN weather here in the 'burgh. wow! it hurts to be outside for more than a minute.
Aw!!!! I love your little quilt!!!! So sweet!!!! I bet all the little girls wanted her gifts!!!! Very fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have grands in Minneapolis, and the middle schooler has serious cabin fever already. She wants to go to school.
ReplyDeleteI hope your weather gets warmer because I'm flying in later this week. Brrrrrr.
Love all your quilty lovelies in this post. Also don't feel bad. No school or work here today and tomorrow too!
ReplyDeleteugh! I wish winter would move on out! Unfortunately for my teacher self, school is on here. Oh, how I would love to get to stay home and quilt! Cute little Irish Chain. Those 9 patches are teeny!

Your mini nine block is so cute! Sounds as though cabin fever is setting in. I imagine it feels more with the kiddos not in school!
ReplyDeleteYou sure have a special way with your quilts. Big or Mini size - I really enjoy your Blog.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe you are almost half way to your 101 goal and it is still January, Wow!
You are an inspiration. My kids keep waiting for our ping pong table to be returned to them - I've found it so handy for my quilts and keep trying to clear it, but the next quilt seems to just jump its way on again!
I see several quilt designers prints in that SR Harris stack and I'm amazed! They sure didn't carry fabrics like that when I lived there -- what a gold mine you have at your fingertips!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat mini quilt. I just realized SR Harris is near my sister in Champlin. I need a trip to MN but will wait for warmer weather. We never had school closed when I was growing up in MN.
ReplyDeleteYour mini Irish chain quilt is super cute...I love the aqua with the white! We were out of school all last week and again today. Stay warm and happy quilting!
ReplyDeleteOh your mini is adorable.
ReplyDeleteMy niece posted a pic to FB the other day with a school bus buried in a snow drift up to the windows with a caption "2 hour delay" on it. She lives near Minn. and has been saying how cold it is. :)
I can't wait to get in gear and get my husband on a mission to go to the twin cities so I can go to SR Harris. Love your little zip bags.
Gorgeous presents for a lucky girl. I can't imagine the weather you are having in the U.S. at the moment, it looks terrible. Where I live in England it has been raining for days which is miserable but livable.
ReplyDeleteyour mini quilt is a delight love the turquoise shade. There is going to be a one very happy little girl with these little zip bags. Hope the weather still warm, but I am sure we will be punished for it
ReplyDeleteSurrounding yourself with pretty Spring fabric is a smart trick. Our winter has spoiled me rotten and now that it's no longer beach weather I'm kind of sad.
ReplyDeleteYour mini-quilt is so cute ! SRHarris ? We must be neighbors, then ! I've been reading you for years and never realized. I'm in St Louis Park, MN.
ReplyDeleteSo when you find yourself in that "like an alcoholic walking into a bar" (love this analogy!!) moment, buying fabric you can't resist or to add to the stash, how much do you normally buy? I never know what the right amount is if it's not already slated for a specific project. Any magic number/formula/insight you'd be willing share? Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy husband was just joking this morning that if winter continues like this, the last day of the 2013/14 school year will be the first of the 2014/15. Ugh! Wishing you a quilt that just NEEDS to be hand bound in front of a roaring fire with hot tea by your side.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, those teeny little 9-patches! And I bet Abby was a total hit at the party!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Not to be discouraging, but Mark's senior year in high school they were out of school nearly the entire MONTH of January!!
Love the tiny nine patches. So sweet. The pouches are so adorable. I have so many on my want to do list. I better get busy. It's not like I need to get fabric in order to get started. LOL
ReplyDeleteWow half way to your goal is amazing. I can't imagine having so many days off school We are lucky to get snow once every 7 years here
ReplyDeleteI live your mini quilt! Then I went back and looked at your other one and loved it also. I have been working on one myself. They are addicting.
ReplyDeleteLove and absolutely Adore those little pouches you made. Perfect size and the fabrics are too freaking cute to pass up. Sorry about your weather. I am so aware of how lucky we are here (So Cal) near the beach. It's just gorgeous today. I am packing it up and mailing some of it to you now. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteSR Harris may be in my future. My daughter may be attending dental school in Minneapolis for the next school year. I am looking forward to my trips to Minnesota!
ReplyDeleteWe were three school days and counting till this morning here in West Michigan. Sub-zero temps and lots of wind and snow. We're supposed to get up to 45 mph winds this afternoon and more snow moving in. I know it may be unpopular to say, but I truly do love winter! I felt cheated the last two here in the mitten state; we're making up for it and how this year! {grin}
