It sure feels like a Monday here. Good gravy, I'm sick of this cold. Winter is starting to really wear on my nerves. It's too cold to go to school again, and in MN, that's saying something! No school tomorrow, either. We may have to go to school into July if things keep up in this vein.
Ok, on to happier things!
I finished this little Irish chain scrap quilt last week. It's made from the trimmings from this quilt. The 9 patches finish at 1 1/2"! I started making them to add to my mini nines quilt, but they looked so cute on their own, they became their own quilt. I hand quilted it, very primitively, I may add. I started quilting it at guild while I was listening to a lecture on what it takes to win a blue ribbon at a quilt show. Ha! The irony of that still makes me laugh. This quilt will win no ribbons, but I love it anyway! It measures 8.25" x 11.5". It's scrap project #47/101.
Last Friday I made another trip to SR Harris. I really shouldn't have gone (it's like an alcoholic walking into a bar, I tell ya'), but I went anyway. This was me showing restraint. (Are you laughing yet? I don't blame you!)
My daughter had a birthday party to go to on Saturday, so I sewed up a few little zip pouches for the occasion. I used this tutorial for the larger one (although I boxed out the corners with a 4" measurement instead of 2"). The little one is just a copy of a coin purse I made years ago. From what I hear, they were a hit. The little pouch was made from scraps, so it's #48. Almost half way to my goal of 101. Sweet!

48/101 is impressive! I wish I could be so productive. I keep being so inspired by what I see online that I almost find it impossible to know where to start with my own projects!

ReplyDeleteI went to school today (it was an in-service day but we were one hour late). Tomorrow we are scheduled for a two hour late start. I don't plan going to school in July.

You are an inspiration. My kids keep waiting for our ping pong table to be returned to them - I've found it so handy for my quilts and keep trying to clear it, but the next quilt seems to just jump its way on again!
I see several quilt designers prints in that SR Harris stack and I'm amazed! They sure didn't carry fabrics like that when I lived there -- what a gold mine you have at your fingertips!!!

ReplyDeleteMy niece posted a pic to FB the other day with a school bus buried in a snow drift up to the windows with a caption "2 hour delay" on it. She lives near Minn. and has been saying how cold it is. :)
I can't wait to get in gear and get my husband on a mission to go to the twin cities so I can go to SR Harris. Love your little zip bags.
Gorgeous presents for a lucky girl. I can't imagine the weather you are having in the U.S. at the moment, it looks terrible. Where I live in England it has been raining for days which is miserable but livable.

I never know what the right amount is if it's not already slated for a specific project. Any magic number/formula/insight you'd be willing share? Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy husband was just joking this morning that if winter continues like this, the last day of the 2013/14 school year will be the first of the 2014/15. Ugh! Wishing you a quilt that just NEEDS to be hand bound in front of a roaring fire with hot tea by your side.

ReplyDeleteWe were three school days and counting till this morning here in West Michigan. Sub-zero temps and lots of wind and snow. We're supposed to get up to 45 mph winds this afternoon and more snow moving in. I know it may be unpopular to say, but I truly do love winter! I felt cheated the last two here in the mitten state; we're making up for it and how this year! {grin}
