I really, really like it!
I used my Janome with a walking foot to make the spiral. It would have been easier to free motion the center and then switch to a walking foot. It took 3 tries to get the center spiral looking good! Oh, well. At least I know what to do next time! :)
Happy Monday to you!
Looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe spiral looks great. If I give it a try I'll start out FMQ, thanks for the hint.
ReplyDeletebeautiful!!! I love this kind of quilting so, so much.
ReplyDeleteI am SO impressed! You did a really good job of this. It looks professional.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I'm going to try this starting small - with a pillow.

Great look on that quilt. Wonderful execution.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great compliment to the straight lines of the piecing!
ReplyDeleteGood advice and great kwilting!
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful. Don't know how you got the lines so evenly spaced. Great job
ReplyDeleteAny tips on making the spiral look good? I love the end result. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI love this. I have been thinking about doing a spiral quilting project, and wasn't sure if I should use the walking foot for the beginning, or the free motion foot. Now I will try with the free motion first. Thank you for the advice!
ReplyDeleteLooks great. Love the spiral.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love how this turned out.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful!
ReplyDeletelooks awesome
ReplyDeleteso did you switch to the free motion foot to get it right? I am not good with my free motion foot at all. I would probably do better with the walking foot.
Wow, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Just so beautiful! I just started FMQ and I am officially addicted! I may never go back!
ReplyDeleteI am finishing up a quilt with concentric circles that looks a lot like this. I chose to do circles instead of a spiral because I switched colors every so often. But I too love the way it looks. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI agree that getting that spiral started is the toughest part. It's hard to make it look like it belongs. Using the free motion foot is a great idea....I only hope i can use it successfully . Thanks for the idea ..I think...if things go bad you know who I'll blame :))
ReplyDeleteThe spiral quilting looks fantastic! I am making a string quilt right now that it would look great on! How about a spiral quilting tutorial with some tips and tricks?!?!? :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and quilting. Love the spiral effect - just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. Marie (mlismore@optusnet.com.au)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have never done this type of quilting on the long-arm or regular sewing machine. I am anxious to try this out!

Nice! I want to see the whole thing, please??
ReplyDeleteI'm with Stephanie - A tutorial would be great!

I would be interested in knowing how you did the spiral quilting. Love it.
ReplyDeleteLook fabulous! Have thought about spiral quilting a few times now and always put it aside for the next project .... no more. Definitely a must do !!
ReplyDeleteLove it! How did you do it?
ReplyDeleteI just love it! I would also like to see the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteRegards
Looks wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes - you've turned a beautiful quilt top into a stunning quilt once again! So, did you keep turning the quilt anti clockwise to quilt the spiral? I'd love to try it - what's the maximum size quilt that you'd recommend for someone who detests unpicking?
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. I can only imagine how many bobbin refills this took. :)
ReplyDeleteamazing, how on earth you do this is way beyond me and it is so even
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how you made it... did you draw it first? Is there any formula for increase the line while you are stitching?
Wow! It gives the quilt such a feeling of motion! Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. I know what you mean about getting started. The innermost circle is really hard to do small. Just curious whether you think the spiral would work well on a medallion quilt if you wanted the circles to be totally centered on the patchwork design as it gets bigger. Right now I'm doing the concentric rings instead of a spiral so the circles fall evenly within the patchwork.
ReplyDeleteI SO SO admire this quilting. I have wanted to try it, but the thought of trying to turn the quilt on the machine seemed overwhelming. I too thought that free motioning the center would be helpful. Any more hints would be very appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThat looks wonderful! But oh, no! Another quilting pattern I'll want to try to master, and it looks hard to do. But I do love the effect. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great, Amandajean. I am planning to try this quilting on another big pillow that I am piecing for a birthday this month. This will make number 4 (of 5) - all the kids in my family love them! I didn't even think to use my walking foot. I thought I would have to fmq it all. I'm still a novice with the darning foot (I think that's what my manual calls it) but am comfortable enough with my walking foot to try it. Although I was looking forward to fewer quilting hours with the fmq... I may quilt one side each way to compare the ease and time spent and of course, the effect. I will let you know how it comes out. As always, thanks for sharing your time and talent :)
ReplyDeletethe spirals are such a great contrast to the fabric layout. Nice work!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI really like it too! That compliments your polka dot sashing! Fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt - I recently tried a spiral quilt on my nephews quilt I loved the way it turned out and also makes a great design on a plain backed quilt (he wanted white) yeah boys n white don't go together - so we will see. I am not sure about you but boy the spiral and all the turning sure make for a good arm workout.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try spiral quilting - thanks for sharing your photos!
ReplyDeleteI think I will just have to try this on the next baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Must try that one day :-)
ReplyDeleteIt takes lots of patience to do your own quilting, especially on a project that large. You are a rock star!
ReplyDeleteI was attempting to purchase a walking foot before our move, but I didn't get the time to get one. I love how these spiral quilting lines on quilts.. It makes the quilt look so abstract.
ReplyDeleteI love spiral quilting. It really makes this quilt pop
