Today I am super pleased to announce that my thread catcher PDF pattern is up for sale! It only took me since LAST January to work up the pattern. I'm speedy! :)
I designed this pattern out of necessity. I needed a cute little bag to catch all my snips and threads while working on my EPP stars. It's much better than what I was using....a folded over zip loc baggie. (For shame!) These thread catchers are definitely a few steps up from the baggie. They are designed to be soft, flexible, portable and collapsible.
Of course I couldn't just stop with a standard thread catcher...I had to play with options.
I added interfacing to this version...
and experimented with ticking, which worked very well....
I also made some with linen and patchwork...a no fail combination!
Oh! I almost forgot the patchwork version! It was made with a mini charm pack...also known as candy. It's hard to see in the photo, but this one is quilted, too!
I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I love them all. The pattern just happens to include instructions for all these options. :)
My friend Pam, who pattern tested for me made these cute ones....
she added ric rac....
she added a cute button....
and she substituted a fussy cut strip of fabric instead of the strip of patchwork. SO many fun ideas!
They finish at about 4"W x 3.25"D x 4.5"H. The pattern is available for purchase here, but seriously, no pressure! :)
Important details:
The pattern is a PDF file only-no paper patterns are available at this time. Orders are usually sent to you within 24 hours, often much sooner. The PDF file will be sent to your pay pal email address. (Please make sure that it is current.) If you have not received the file, be sure to check your spam/bulk mail folder.
Terms of use:
Please use this pattern for personal use only. Feel free to make as many as you wish for yourself or your quilty friends. They also happen to make great little gift baskets. I would suggest using them for chocolate holders for your non-quilty friends. :)
I thought it would be fun to celebrate the pattern release by giving away 5 copies of the pattern. If you would like to have your name thrown into the hat, please leave me a comment. I'd love to hear what you are working on today. I'll pick a winner sometime tomorrow.
Happy Monday to you! And happy tax day (ha!) to those of you in the US!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 300 of 300These are so cute! A threadcatcher has been on my list of items to make for a while. For now I just drop my threads and bits on the floor...yikes!
I'd love to make some. I only have an old tin for collecting covered with tissue. Not my actual style anymore...
Love the Noteworthy by Sweetwater one! I'm just starting on Little Miss Shabby's Birdie Stitches using it! Thanks for the chance!
Love the linen & patchwork. Very cute!
They are really nice, love the possibilities for variation!
All those thread catchers are so cute and very creative :-) Today I have been working on a Mothers Day mini quilt that I'm making for a swap that I signed up for .
These are super cute & would be a lovely handmade gift. Today I'm finishing up the quilting on a queen bed sized quilt for my daughter & son in law. Thanks for the chance to win & congrats on the pattern.
Cool idea! I too have resorted to unlovely plastic containers, but these look gorgeous and useful. Tonight I am trimming and folding fabric back into my stash so I can find my sewing machine for some actual sewing! Thanks.
Those are adorable. I am working on making a stuffed Maggie Bunny from a pattern by Alicia at Posie Gets Cozy. I'd love to win a pattern from you.
Too cute! I ordered it and can't wait to put one together. Hubby and I are doing some traveling in the next couple of weeks and this is perfect for my hand sewing projects in the truck. Thanks!
On the weekend I was just looking at my thread catcher that I was given and was thinking I would like to make another one - and then you go and create a pattern - well many thanks - I am working on a quilted pillow top for my mom and a quilt back for my daughter - there are always many projects in the cupboard to work on
Those are the cutest thread catchers...definitely better than the folded over baggie!
Throw my name in the hat please. :) I love the patchwork one!
Love the one with mini patchwork. Thanks for the give-away!
Your thread catcher could be used for all kinds of things. They would be perfect gifts for everyone. Fan4may at aol dot com
So cute! Love these, and Lord knows I could use them! :) Right now I have a dress for my niece's birthday almost complete. I also have just finished an "Amanda inspired" floor pillow for my other niece. Next up is a quilt for a wedding on May 4th. Oh, and I also have 3 almost finished quilts that just need binding, and rag quilt that is all cut out and one row sewn together and another top that is ready to sandwich. Just to name the ones off the top of my head. I'm sure there are a dozen more that I forgot. :) I think May needs to be a clean up the unfinished projects month for me. LOL
I love the baskets. I'm working on a bird quilt from last year and a small, small bag for my 3 year old great niece. I finally have the "birth" quilts for her sibs who were born in September ready to go in the mail. I thought she might feel left out if there isn't something in the package for her. So, as soon as I get her initial on it, stitch it up, the package will be in the mail. Good luck to all who also like the basket. Thank you for keeping up stitching, if only in our heads. (I don't pay taxes! My income consists of SS disability and don't make enough to pay income taxes. I do pay sales tax, property tax, school tax, car tax, etc. just not income. I feel the pain of those who do - I did for many, many, many years.)
I would love to own this pattern!
I'm still using the ziploc Barrie catcher! Would love one of these duties to replace it. Thanks for your giveaway.
Such a darling pattern - I love it. I am working on a baby quilt for my soon to be born grandson.
So Cute, Would love pattern. am working on Circle skirts for my sisters new born and first daughter. while the quilt i made for her is being finished by a gal two towns over. am selling my house and just set up a bed in my sewing room to show that the room holds a bed nicely too, and have a quilt that i need to finish on the bed. its basted and has prairie points. might get to working on that soon too.
Yikes! How cute! Im working on a baby blanket. Baby already here :-(
These would make great gifts for my Bee girls.
I've just finished a baby quilt and am about to start another. There are bits of thread all over the house - even the neighbour's cat who visits departs with bits of thread on his fur.
These are so cute! I love the linen and patchwork - a modern classic. Thanks for the chance!
I'm binding a scrappy quilt.
What a cute little pattern! Can't choose a favorite - love them all -- would love to win a pattern and try to make one! Thanks!
I would be tickled to receive your pattern! Last night I finished the border on a queen quilt and pieced the back. Today I am taking it to the machinist before I go to my guild meeting.
I love these! All so cute but they can be individualized for friends. ~Jeanne
So pretty, I love them. Good way to use favourite fabrics as can get to look at them every day! Today I am having to work out how to make a pineapple block sample for a neighbour (and I am no expert). Now with all these wee strips, a fabric catcher would be very handy.
Mo
Very cute and practical - love your samples. I am working on a quilt for my sister.
Looks very simple to make and is really very elegant! They could be used for storage too! Love the variety of possibilities in your photos. They really are inspiring.
Sarah

Well, how timely! I love seeing your latest patterns. I spent a small amount of time making an i spy quilt top. only stole a few minutes at the machine but it was enjoy to get a fix. :)
I've been making scrappy binding for my madrona rd quilt and I had a pile of little threads and tags, really need to make myself some snazzy thread catchers, one for next to the sewing machine, one for the arm of the lounge, one for my travel bag... The list goes on!
I would love to have this pattern! I love thread catchers and pincushions! I love the idea of filling it with chocolate for non-quilty friends. I'm thinking this might be a great Christmas gift for the ladies in my office.
Love this pattern! I am putting off working on my son's quilt that I need to baste with a minky backing. Guess I need to dive in and just do it!
What a great idea. Much better than the floor where my threads end up the.most
Love your little baskets. I am working on a queen sized quilt for my son - my biggest so far.
I am working on a quilt for my great niece, a blouse for me and at present I use the arm of the chair as a thread catcher when I EPP!
I just love these! My 10 year-old and I quilt together so we will be making these together. Thanks so much for putting the pattern together!
Beautiful work! These are so cute! Thanks for the chance at a fun giveaway ... What am I working on today? Well, the usual daily stuff has to be done, but when I get around to my quilty stuff, I'm brainstorming/cutting pieces for a quilt made from vintage sheets and men's shirts.
Awe, how darn cute is that! I would love to win the pattern :)
Yesterday and today I have been working on finishes. I decided since we have snow here in Calgary, that I should straighten-up my sewing room. What that meant was finding HST blocks left from a quilt I had made a year ago, I put them together and now I have an adorable baby quilt to give to someone. I also found 3 other started projects that I have now finished. Love finishing.
Those are adorable! Well done :-)
I am working on the end of the year teacher gifts for both of my daughter's teachers. What a darline pattern and a great idea for next years teacher gifts :)
Love these. So cute! Thanks for the chance to win the pattern.
What a cute idea. I usually just drop the thread on the floor and sweep it up eventually. :)
those are all SO cute! I don't know if I could stop at just one either. My daughter would love some to put her little treasures in too. I'm working on a quilt for my 2 boys. They are so excited and ask everyday if it is done yet.
I would love to win a copy of that pattern! Your thread catcher is a genius idea, I can definitely see myself making a couple for my sewing table and patchwork bag.
These are so cute! I had to pick all my threads and tiny bits of fabric off the carpet when I was finished sewing last night... Not good!

Thanks for the chance to win, maybe I can replace my brown paper bag now.
Your thread catchers are so cute.
I would love to win the pattern and whip some of those up for our upcoming quilt show.
AAckkkk...I've been seeing your cute little fab. catchers. Love the linnen and patchwork, do I dare say a favorite. I've been wanting to make one of these using oil cloth as I think I would be able to dump the thread out without it sticking to the fabric. Thanks for making this pattern available.
I love these little baskets, so cute! We're expecting our second baby in Aug and we just found out it's a girl! I've been trying to finish an Owl Filmstrip quilt so that I don't feel too guilty about my WIPs when I start on a baby quilt!
I love all the different ways you made the catcher. Would be cute to give as gift with soaps and lotions in it. There are all kinds of ways to use the catcher. Love it, love it and love it!!!

I'm working on a "busy" book for my daughter's friend's little boy. I'm procrastinating though. I have some small quilts I want to try free motion quilting on and I haven't worked up the nerve to put needle to the fabric.
Good morning Amanda Jean...luv the thread catcher...and it would be a great project to make that would replace my kleenex box that I'm currently using to catch all threads from the 6 charity quilts I'm making before the end of June. Two have been delivered to Quilts for Kids. One was delivered to Margaret's Hope Chest in March for the prison day on April 6th. Today I will be working on the 2 quilts committed for Hands 2 Help. They are for cancer patients and have to been finished early June and before the end of June I will be making another quilt for Margaret's Hope Chest..6 quilts in 6 months all for a good cause. That explains why I'm quiet in blogland...oh and DH retired March 31...my routine will never be the same again. Happy stitching! Pauline xo
Today's projects are laundry (boo!), trying to find the lost key to my parents' safety deposit box (yikes!), and working on *my* nap quilt before baby #4 arrives later this summer. And a nap :)
These are wonderful! I have been trying to think of something to make for all of the ladies at our spring retreat (last year I made them all zippered pouches with their names on them). These thread catchers would be great for everyone to have by their machines!
this is so cute!! After THREE whole months of being away from sewing due to an international move, I'm setting up my sewing room!! Got my work table put together today and I'm really hoping I can find my big cutting mat - haven't seen it so far and I'm gonna go postal if it's back home in storage..
How cute! I love the patchwork one! Thanks for the giveaway.
Hi,
Love these thread catchers. I would love to have the pattern. I am at work today, but hope to sew on my current quilt tonight.
Beautiful Thread Catcher, would love the pattern. I am working on a couple of baby quilts, one a whole panel the other a design of my own. We'll see how that turns out!
These are SO handy! I love mine. :)
I'm just finishing a quilt for our first grandchild. I was thinking of all the little baby things that could go in the thread catchers. They would look so cute in a baby's room.
I would love to win a copy of your pattern! It would make a great gift for my quilt guild secret pal!
I'll throw my hat in the ring, er - thread catcher. Thanks for sharing!
very cute little buckets! i am starting a new BOM, the French Roses pattern, and your 9-patch along.
love your site!!
So cute! Would love to whip one of these up ;)
These are lovely - so many variations to choose from - I love them all.
I definitely need a catcher for all the loose threads - though I do think that being covered in little threads is the sign of a true quilter!!!
Cute idea... Would love a pattern for this cool basket to add to my quilt project list, ever growing list!!!!
Those are all so cute! I'm working on a secret swap where the recipient knows me but doesn't know what I'm making for her, so I can't say! She might see it here! Sorry! :)
Oh they all are just so adorable. It would be hard to pick a favorite if I had to. I really, really need to make a couple of these, one for my domestic machine Lucy and one for my new long arm machine, name to still be determined. Thanks for the chance to win.
Lovely pattern!
I am working on a baby quilt for my soon to be born niece :)
Today I'm working on a quilt for my 4 year old son. He needs a nice big quilt for his bed to keep him warm throughout the Wisconsin winters. I patterned it off a quilt picture at Cluck, Cluck, Sew and chose my colors based on his favorite fleece sweatshirt. So far so good. And thanks for the giveaway.
I'm working on the big stitch quilting of my daughter's log cabin while she is babysitting. It is pouring and gray here...perfect for snuggling under this.
Lucy~
I love this and would love to win a pattern. It is adorable and a necessity. I am smitten with the rik rak version
I'm working on some reusable "paper" towels :-D I need a thread catcher today!!!

So cute! All I've got going right now is a block of the month. Trying to figure out what to start next. Thanks!
Darling thread catcher. Thanks for the chance to win. Currently I am working on binding three different quilts
What a cute idea! Oh to be creative like that. My next project is finishing a "Retrospective in Reproductions" - from quilt club from before my 8 year old was born. Each member made me a row with classic blocks out of repros. I think it's number has finally come up!
I love those little thread catchers, they are so cute
I hope I'm not too late to this party. We were in NYC visiting my sons and grandson for a 3 day weekend, and I'm only catching up on my blog-reading today. I don't have a sewing or quilting project underway at the moment, but I have plans to start some Christmas-themed patchwork pillows very soon. This little thread-catcher would be a great addition to my sewing corner!
I love these. They are very cute and multi-functional. I am not sewing today because I am taking care of my grandson. He is 2 and keeps me hopping all day.
These are fab:) I'd love to make one!
Great gift idea! Today I'm working on 4 quilts I currently have going. I usually play with one and then at a good stopping point switch to another! I like the change of each one.
I'm working on my first modern quilt. It's a real push for me!!!
This pattern is just darling! I love the idea for non-sewing friends--Chocolate
Great---thanks for the giveaway.
Cheers,
Nanci
even though I am self-taught, courtesy of your blog!-I am helping other women learn to quilt, so tonight we are starting our kissing fish baby quilt. They are nervous because it seems complicated to them, but they are learning all about half square triangles! I'm finishing up my cutting to help show them what to do tonight! I seriously love your blog. It is my go-to with any questions. You have taught me everything I know!!
