I'm always a little nervous to start quilting something. I'm even more so today, as I'm attempting my drano quilt. Not sure why, but this quilt seems more special than most. Probably because it took me a solid 12 days to piece it.
Oh, and I'm sewing it on my new Horizon 7700 sewing machine. That might be part of it, too. Heh.
I bought this new baby on small business Saturday. I've been wanting a machine that zig zags (this one does so much more!) for years. Don't worry, I still LOVE my Juki very, very much....it isn't going anywhere.
So, straight line quilting this one may not be the smartest thing I've ever attempted, but I have a pretty seam ripper at the ready (thanks Rene!) should I need it.
I just bought a 7700 too :) Loving it so far. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things about that machine!
ReplyDeleteWill you quilt it on this machine? I hope I can feel like attempting a quilt on my machine..or do you have a longarm that you will use? Love the quilt, and congrats on the new "baby". Isn't it fun to get something that you can have so much fun with?
ReplyDeleteDianne,
ReplyDeleteYes, I will quilt it on this machine. It's time to jump in with both feet and get acquainted with it. :)
AJ
I want this machine sooooooooo bad. I already named the floor model at our local shop "roxanne". The owner will let me come sew on it ~ we are trying to work something out but my budget just won't cooperate right now :-/ Maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteThe built in dual feed makes straight line so much easier. If you have any questions, feel free to call me!
ReplyDeleteI have this machine and love it! If you are straight line quilting the walking foot is great! It even has a 1/4" walking foot attachment to use for attaching bindings, etc. I also find that FMQ with machine is a dream! Good luck and have fun!!
ReplyDeleteoh, this is such and amazing quilt, looking forward to seeing it after all the quilting is done, I'm sure it will be even more stunning then.
ReplyDeleteJump in! You will do just fine. It will be beautiful, I just know it.
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK! I'm sure it will be great.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good machine. I love my 6500. I hope you have a great time quilting on it!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome news. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteHa! Your quilt makes that machine looks tiny... and it's not! Go ahead and jump right in. I know both of you can handle it. ; )
ReplyDeleteOooh, congratulations on your new machine!! Don't worry, your quilting will be fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGet ready, get set...............GO !
ReplyDeleteI have had my 7700 for the pastvyear. Love it!
ReplyDeleteGo for gold!! I can't wait to hear how it all turns out :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is the one I want for Christmas!! It is a beauty with its long throat. Please tell us (who wants one) all the pros and cons.
ReplyDeleteDrano all pieced and a new machine.- the quilting will just fall into place for you!!
ReplyDeleteOooh, love that seamripper! Don't at all like frog-stitching (rip-it, rip-it), so maybe that's what I need. ;)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, why is it called a Drano Quilt?
Mee, too! I'm nervous before quilting each time as well. Probably because I'm afraid my quilting won't be as nice as what I've done so far; I'm better at the other stuff. Determined to get over my quilting procrastination that causes, though. I definitely need to loosen up a bit on the quilting aspect.
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny. Twelve whole days, huh? It would probably take me twelve years to piece that quilt LOL. I'm always nervous when I start to quilt too. When that happens though, I look at the pictures of the wedding quilt I did. I was so scared when I started that quilt, but it went so much more smoothly than I dreamed it could have, so I use it to calm my nerves. I know you have a big success that you can refer to also!!!
ReplyDeleteOoooo - that seam ripper is so pretty! Good luck with the quilting...it will be stunning!
ReplyDeleteYou'll do great! ....but it does sound scary on a new machine...
ReplyDeleteI've had my Horizon for over two years and it still sews beautifully! You'll love it :) I made one of those quilts... I fmq'd flowers all over it because I couldnt' figure out how to quilt it either!
ReplyDeleteI love my Horizon!! Enjoy! :)
ReplyDeleteI finally broke down and hubby agreed to buy me a Horizon for my birthday (and Christmas and anniversary and.......)
ReplyDeleteWhen we went to the store they didn't have any...so we came away with a 8900 instead!! Only a week after they were introduced here in Canada!! I love it, but I haven't tried FMQ with it yet, I'm too scared!!
I've had my 7700 for a year and I love it. You'll enjoy quilting with it. Project looks great.
ReplyDeleteI love how you are stressed that it took you a whole 12 days to piece this.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new Horizon...I just bought one too and LOVE IT. Quilting is SO EASY. seriously.
ReplyDeleteI love love love mine...sew I hope you will too!
Happy Sewing!
Okay, so i'm just going to ask the question, any idea where the seam ripper came from? Would make a great gift for my quilty friends. I Love your blog - always such great ideas. Thanks!
ReplyDelete-Alexis (lexbyrd@aol.com)
I would love to know where the seam ripper came from too! Thank you!

Type in bear tooth woods and then Seam ripper Chrome Kit. Looks like maybe it's self assembly....or
ReplyDeletepennstateind.com that is showing a ripper that has a small blade on one end and a large blade on the other... I just typed it into Google images...
Leah Day has the same machine as your new one!!

Alexis and Lindsay,
ReplyDeleteThe seam ripper is from During Quiet Time's etsy shop. Amy's husband hand turns them on a lathe in their barn (how charming, right?) and it is a lovely seam ripper! Hope that helps.
AJ
Hope your quilting and having fun on that new machine.
