I finished my pezzy quilt top this morning and I'm so pleased with the results! I used one layer cake of pezzy fabric (plus one scrap from teaginny. thanks Alex!) and 3 yards white Kona for the top. I added borders to make this a decent twin size, which took an additional yard of fabric.
*the only thing i did differently from the tutorial was cut the corner blocks at 5" rather than 4 7/8". I then trimmed the pieced triangle units to 4.5". Cutting squares 5" is so much easier than cutting squares 4 7/8", and trimming helps accuracy immensely.

Wow, it looks great! Was it hard to keep the direction of the ovals straight? Did you need to keep track of how you sewed the hsts or did it just work out that way by itself? I have a hard time visualizing things, so that's why I'm wondering:)

ReplyDeleteAll the ovals don't go the same way, but on most blocks they do. After a few blocks I figured out a system. The first blocks that don't match....well, I decided not to let it bother me. :)

Beautiful. I like the reversal of the print with the white on some of the blocks. Yeck ... know what you mean about those colored threads showing through on the white ... a real pesky problem. :D

ReplyDeleteEww, I never cut 7/8" if I can help it. I always do my HSTs as you describe: cut at 5" and trim to 4.5". Definitely helps with the neatness factor.
