so many options

Last week while my kiddos were out of the house for a few days I was able to get some serious quilting done. It felt so good! One of the quilts that I was able to baste and quilt was my low volume one. One advantage to this quilt was the easy thread choice for quilting. Using white was a no-brainer. It blended with all the fabrics so nicely. What a bonus!

Now it's time to choose a binding fabric. I am quite on the fence, so I thought I'd ask you for your two cents.
Choice A,  1934 by Cosmo Cricket for Moda

Choice B, Baby Talk by David Walker for Free Spirit

Choice C, Building Blocks by American Jane Patterns-Sandy Klop

Choice D, Basic Grey/eva for Moda

Choice E, Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup for Henry Glass (I believe it's Barbara....the selvage edge of the fabric I have just starts with Jones, but i'm fairly certain it's Barbara Jones...)

Choice F, Red Gingham (woven) by Moda, which I would cut on the bias.

Oh, I should probably add, the backing is made up of 3 panels of these fabrics....

So, what binding fabric would YOU choose?

Love your quilt. I like A or F for the binding. Either one. Will go nicely with the back fabrics since all three have a touch of red.

Great job!!

Lara said...

A or F definitely :)

Christina said...

A!

Auntie Pami said...

I like E because it has the same feeling as the quilt, but if you are looking for a 'solid' look binding to frame your quilt, I'd go with A or F.

red gingham for sure!

I'd go for a colorful border... Both the Cosmo and gingham looks great.

Red gingham, absolutely. (Also, thanks for posting this. I feel very silly when I struggle with binding choice, and it's good to see a pro's process!)

AJ said...

A, B or E. Give you a good contrast from the others.

Caroline said...

It is a tie between A and D. Though if you go with the red that is a LOT of red on the back, and I'm thinking a contrasting color with those panels would be nice...

i like the first red one - A

I love that orange piece you have on the back -- so I think my answer would be "none of the above" and use the orange for binding. Whatever you choose it sure looks like it'll be lovely.

A

Sarah PingsAndNeedles said...

I like E best because it has some white space and isn't too red as there's so much in the quilt ... but, that said, I also love F cos I'm a sucker for gingham :)

Anina said...

I like F, but I'd recommend cutting it on the bias because it's really hard to keep plaids straight.

B or D. The pattern is more muted and seems to go with the rest of your quilt. Glad to see it is hard for you to choose too! K-

A or F :). This is going to look awesome!

F! Love the gingham and cutting it on the bias will be beautiful! Looks great!

Quilting in Seattle said...

"A" pops really nicely! Keeps it spicy!

Mi Ha-Pea said...

Lovely! I would go with E if I was matching to the back or A or F if it made the rest of the red on the quilt 'pop'.

Marla said...

Definitely A

Anonymous said...

So I'm bucking the trend and going with D. No doubt red gingham on the bias (otherwise known as F) is a beautiful option, but after going back and looking at the larger pictures of your "low-volume quilt" I really like the look of D and the continuation of that lovely low-key feel.

LindaW said...

L vote for choice A.

Lynne said...

I vote for B, although I do love F as well. Gorgeous quilt!

Karen said...

I like F, the red gingham the best. Kept coming back to it after looking at the others a few times. Love this quilt!

Paula said...

Choice A for me. Almost a blender with yor other fabrics but pretty enough to make a great binding!!

Bridgit said...

I'm a teacher; I don't like it when students earn "Fs," but you've done it. The bias element will rock it!

A or F!

Brenda in Manitoba said...

I vote for F - the gingham. It will be a good contrast - both in color and by being on the bias - so it won't be lost in the rest of the quilt. It will frame it nicely. Also, all the backing fabrics have red om them, so it ties in there, too.

Sara said...

Gingham would be so cute! Glad you had a sewing day all to your lonesome!!

Unknown said...

B! I love the soft green with those colors.

Mary P said...

A or B

Jacqueline said...

A

greelyrita said...

A because the red is bright and has enough white to tie it to the rest of the quilt.

April (Polkadot Sparrow) said...

Circa, circa, circa! (imagine that being chanted). They're all actually cool but either of the reds will add just the right amount of ZING. :)

Happy for you to have much sewing time!

Allison said...

hmmm, either A or F :)
i'm a bit jealous of your quiet sewing time :)

Melody said...

I'm not usually a huge red fan but I love the A fabric. Really frames the quilt. I also like the idea of f on the bias.

charlotte said...

Choice A is perfect. Dark enough to halt the eye and send it back the other way, yet not to solid either, if you know what I mean.

Hope said...

Ooh, so many choices! I like option A the most.

Helen said...

can we have A on the bias? E then, with a pop of red flowers behaving like polka dots if you cut it carefully. Love the quilt, started considering my own collection of low volume prints. Thanks for showing it to us. Oh and my copy of the book is much coveted here in Wellington New Zealand.

mtnquiltr said...

I like choice A, but you can tell, I'm not a low volume kind of gal!

Susan K from Canada said...

My choice is A - it is just the right choice. D could work too - but I was concerned about the name Basic Grey - it looks green to me - so choose A

A or F for sure :-) I'd probably lean toward the gingham (F).

It's A for me

Annalia said...

Well, it seems like everyone else wants A....but I really like B. The red pops, but the blue just sort of mellows everything out and lets you concentrate on the quilt instead of the binding.

I'm also enchanted with E. Love those flowers!...but the white background keeps it subtle.

Can't wait to see what you pick - which I'm sure will be the very best choice!

Amanda Conger said...

I LOVE B! But A would be my second choice. : )

Definitely A. It has the red which lifts the quilt but it still has plenty of white in keeping with the white in the quilt. More sophisticated than the gingham.
