Scraps! They're wonderful but it seems like I don't have enough of the right ones! Thank you for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI live in West Michigan and I LOVE scraps. I really love the look of a scrappy quilt, but the pain about scraps is that they are small, and therefore it can take a LONG time to make a scrappy quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat an AWESOME giveaway! :D
I love scraps but I get bored with my assortment. It would be nice to infuse them with someone else's. I make mostly scrappy quilts so not a lot of new yardage gets cut into scraps. Which is a shame because I have so much!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is an awesome giveaway! I absolutely love scraps. I find them challenging but also fun to figure just what to do with them!
ReplyDeleteI have just started quilting so don't have any scraps to speak of, but have seen some amazing quilts made by them. I live in the UK near Cardiff in Wales.
ReplyDeleteLindsay
Happy Birthday! Right now I'm in the position of having lots of small scraps but not too much in the way of medium or larger pieces. How small is too small?
ReplyDeleteYour book is beautiful and I would really really love a copy. I love scrappy quilts but for a newbie quilter like me, I don't have nearly enough scraps to make even one quilt much less all the ones floating around in my head. I wish I could figure out a way to get scraps without spending a fortune. Suggestions?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteI love quilting with scraps! I have a bin of 2.5" squares that I'm using for hexagon quilts - all done by hand. It used to take forever to cut them up, but I have an Accuquilt Go and now it's so easy and fast!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity to win some scraps! I live in Montana. I'm a new quilter, so I don't yet know the joys or challenges of scrap quilting, but I would love to get some scraps in my stash. Scrap quilts are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI love scraps. And happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHej! Mieszkam w Polsce. Lubię szyć z małych kawałków bieżniki na stół, kosmetyczki.
ReplyDeleteI love working with scraps because of the variety--no two blocks look alike. It can be challenging because I tend to stress bout not having any of the same fabrics too close together.
ReplyDeleteI currently live in the beautiful, cool, green Seattle area but am preparing to move to "the middle of nowhere, Washington" by the end of the year. A.k.a. Central Washington otherwise known as the brown side.
I love working with scraps..upcycling... but then it can be that some are too small or I don't have enough of a particular fabric to do something special with it. Would LOVE to win your book. I am from Minnesota where we are having a heat wave. Temps in the middle to high 90's.
ReplyDeleteI don't have many scraps yet. When I try to work with them, I find myself trying too hard to make something 'matchy'. Which doesn't work very well. I live in Minnesota, and like others, it is hot here!
ReplyDeleteWith scraps, you have freedom to use many fabrics and they usually look great. When you select prints, I feel more selectivity is needed.
ReplyDeletescraps are the best,,,i have to agree that the ticker tape kind are my fave!! fingers crossed on the book...it is on my wish list already and would love a signed copy!! xo
ReplyDeleteLive in California! Scraps are so much fun and make projects go fast. Happy Birthday! My SIL's is the 3rd.
ReplyDeleteI am a scrap hoarder! just can't bring myself to tossing any piece of fabric. Thanks for a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHi there, I'm in the San Francisco bay area. I love scraps, I love to save them, I love to use them. I just can't enough of them.
ReplyDeleteI love scraps and most of my projects are made of scraps. The thing I enjoy most is, that in the end all those different colours blend in to a wonderful quilt and alot of those small pieces used have also a sweet memory to tell.
ReplyDeleteI am from Switzerland.
I live in Indiana, and I love sewing with scraps--especially trading with other people. It gives you a fresh look at a fabric you might not have bought any yardage of.
ReplyDeleteI live in Washington state. I'm a beginner and my scraps are in need of a boost so I can try a scrap quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm still working on building up a stash but I'm dying to try the ticker tape quilt!! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am the scrap queen in my quilty group. In my humble opinion scraps are what the best quilts are made of. They tell a story, or maybe even 3 or 4. I live on a very limited budget and in order to quilt I use scraps. My friends give me all of theirs and its like having them all with me all the time. I. Love. Scraps.
ReplyDeleteWould love a copy of your book. I adore scraps, and have a large collection that I sort by color. I have done a lot of "made fabric" with them, where you just start stitching pieces of scraps together to make larger pieces that become blocks. It has been great to play.
ReplyDeleteI live in CT and my scraps are always beckoning. I love them for their variety and the possibilities they carry; but they present real challenges, since mmost of what I consider scraps are either tiny, oddly shaped or both! Also, they seem to multiply when I'm not looking...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI have scraps more or less organized in Bonnie Hunter's system - 1", 2", etc. Sometimes it's very handy to have them this way, but other times I just want to play with new fabric.
I live in New York along the Hudson River. I love scraps because they remind me of painting. The biggest challenge I have with scraps is my daughters walking away with the "cute" ones.
ReplyDeleteI have a mixed relationship with scraps: I love to use them for quilts, but I don't like the mess they leave behind... as in: did a bomb go off in my sewing room?
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance!
Thanks for the giveaway! I live in Atlanta, GA (where it is currently about the same temperature as the seventh circle of hell) and my thoughts on scraps are that I haven't amassed enough to do a project just yet. As soon as I do, I'd really love to do a postage stamp quilt.
ReplyDeleteHello from Massachusetts. Love scraps, I make a lot of baby quilts with them. Have a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteI have been quilting for 6 months but am addicted. I only have a shoe box of scraps but am looking forward to using them to one day make a quilt with them. Living in the south east (US) where quilting is very traditional, following your blog and enjoying your modern sensibility has been very inspiring. A copy of your new book would mean a lot to me. Happy Birthday and thank you for your wonderful blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm from Houston, Texas. I've never done anything with scraps before but I would love to start!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Maryland! I love working with scraps! I like seeing how the fabrics play with each other!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the UK. I love scraps - my local quilt shop has a huge basket of scraps at a penny a gramme (40US cents an ounce!) and I love rummaging through it for gems! The only problem is I can never bear to use the last bits ups in case i need it for something else!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your published book. I live in South Texas. I love scraps and the assortment of fabrics you find. Makes a great quilt. Plus my grandchildren keep me pretty busy with handmade quilts to sew with their orders put in early. I wish you happy birthday. Judith, Texas
ReplyDeleteLive your blog, have been lurking for a while from NH. I try not to buy so much fabric that I have a ton of scape, but I like to do little appliqué projects with the scraps that I do manufacture. I also cut everything I can into 2 1/2 inch strips or squares, I use my strips for binding and stripy quilts, I use the squares for postage stamp quilting and EPP hexies!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance! I live in Virginia. And I love Scrappy quilts but find it hard to decide placement of colors. I have to make myself just grab the next one and not think about it too much :)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of working with "scraps" but not having made a whole lot of quilts I don't have enough variety. I'm working on that. Thanks for having the lovely giveaway!
ReplyDeleteKristi in Alberta, Canada! I have bins of scraps, and am attempting a spiderweb quilt. I adore scraps- I am sure yours are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love scraps. I wish I had more. I really like that pile of green scraps. I see a super cute green quilt there!!! Maybe a stacked coin quilt. I love getting other people's scraps!!!
ReplyDeleteSouthern California, here. My scraps are usually really awkward pieces since I usually just just enough from my yardage to get the pieces I need - so there are no leftover strip ends around.
ReplyDeleteMy scrap basket seems to grow when I am not looking! Lately I have been working on scrappy spiderweb blocks - and it isn't making any dent what so ever! I love working with scraps because it brings back such good memories from other quilts I have made.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
What a fabulous giveaway for Canada Day! I live in Ontario Canada and would love to win a copy of your book! I adore scraps...any and all sizes and find the variety of fabrics makes for a WAY more interesting quilt!
ReplyDeleteI live near Seattle WA and I have a love/hate relationship with scraps. Love them for bee blocks and scrappy projects, but they are piled in a big basket and are hard to go through. I tried to sort them, but that makes its own problem - space! But all in all I 'save' way more than I did a year ago....I used to throw pretty much all scraps away...
ReplyDeleteI'm new to quilting, so I don't have many scraps, but I love the idea of using them. I'm trying to build up a decent stash.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm from Canada - near Ottawa.
dewiec(at)yahoo(dot)ca
Hello, I live near London. My view is that the secret to using scraps is to have enough to make something, but not so many that sorting them becomes overwhelming!! I find having a small and willing child to sort the colours out helps enormously ;-) Scraps are also ideal for children learning to sew.
ReplyDeleteI have been working on my scraps for a few months now. They are a little a puzzle. I live in Alberta but north of Cheryl about 3 hours.
ReplyDeleteI'm from southern California. I hoard every bit of fabric, but am sometimes at a loss to use up those scraps! I usually reach for then when I make little projects like mug rugs. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI live in Califon, New Jersey. I love charm quilts and looking through memorable pieces of fabric to create them. I am hoping to get enough material to begin either one of your rug projects.
ReplyDeleteI live in Cedar City, Utah. It's a beautiful town. I love working with what I've got. We don't have much money to spend on hobbies, so scraps are a great way to still enjoy my hobbies without bankrupting the family. Thanks for sharing you talents with us all.
ReplyDeleteYay for giveaways! I live in central Florida and I love scraps and scrap quilts. Scraps are great for making new projects from remnants of a previous project. It feels like I'm getting something for free. I love scrap quilts; they remind me of a sweet, simple life.
ReplyDeleteI live in PA and the reason I love scraps is you never have any idea what it is going to look like until you are finished....like a little surprise in the end!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a GREAT giveaway! Thanks for the chance. You and Cheryle are the best!
ReplyDeleteHappy birtsday!
ReplyDeleteI always have a lot of scraps. Usually I have no patience to do big work,so those times I only sew little things like purses, note-covers ... But sometimes I sew big quilt from scraps. That is my challenge to make big work using only scraps.
I'm very courious your book, so my husband ordered it from Amason in May for my birthday witch is today, but unfotunately they have still not delivered.
Tünde from Budapest, Hungary
I live in Vancouver, WA, just across the river from Portland, OR. I love scraps especially when I find ones that remind me of a previous project. My challenge, organizing them and not having very many to work with.
ReplyDeleteI live in Lewisville, NC. I love other people's scraps. They challenge me! I love figuring out how to use what I have rather than buy something.
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting. I live in Northeast FL and today it is suppose to be 100. I love SCRAPS. I have so many possible ways to use them and the ideas just come to me when I work with them. Also I feel liberated with them...kind of like a no rules thing. Happy Birthday in advance.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Amanda Jean!! I live in the Nashville, TN area - and I love scraps! Good thing, too, because I've got a lot of them. But it makes books like yours extra special because it gives me something to do with them. Thanks for the chance to win!!
ReplyDeleteI live now in Indianapolis, 103 degrees in my backyard last week, good reason to stay inside and sew! I love scrappy quilts, I'm going to try your idea of sorting them by color, I'm always digging into my scrap bins, the color I need is always at the bottom. I'm planning on trying your "Big Big Bento" in red white and blue, for a "Quilt of Valor", looks like a fun quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI live in Ireland and I love scraps! Actually I don't have anything else and all the blocks I make are made of scraps. I love that you can use so much colors and get something colorful.
ReplyDeleteWow, the book I love it, I'm so lucky to have it, but the scraps I would love them, just doing one at the moment, and then doing one from your book, so the more scraps I have the bigger it will be.
ReplyDeleteNearly forgot I live in the UK
Hope I'm lucky ;-)
I am new to quilting, but not to sewing, so I do have lots of scraps from my sewing projects. I haven't tried to incorperate my scraps into quilts yet. I have only made one baby quilt, working on the second. I think it would be interesting to have someone elses scraps to go along with mine. Maybe I could come up with something then. I live in oregon. thank you for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome giveaway! Scraps are a lot of fun and my smaller scraps I use in mixed media designs or art quilts. Other than that I am at a loss as to what to use them for.
ReplyDeleteI have really been wanting this book! It looks great! I just love all the colors in a scrappy quilt but I never have enough scraps or feel that my scrap blocks don't look well when they are finished. I always love the scrap quilts that others post. I think sometimes you just aren't happy with it because you made it... That's my problem anyway...
ReplyDeleteI am in Truckee, CA, near Lake Tahoe. I have yet to make a quilt using scraps, I am still building my stash. But I love all of the possibilities with scraps.
ReplyDeleteI live in Winona, MN. I love ticker tape quilts! This last year I made 7 quilts using small pieces of my mother-in-law's clothing after she died. All the grandkids now have a quilt to remember Grandma :)
ReplyDeleteI adore scraps. I'm about done with a spider web quilt. I find the more scraps I have, the better the quilt. Variety is the big key.
ReplyDeleteI try to be a bit organized with my scraps. When I'm finished cutting out a quilt I'll chop up the leftovers into 5 inch squares or 2 1/2 X 5 inch rectangles. Lately I've been cutting 1 1/2 inch strips to make log cabin pillows too.
ReplyDeleteThe squares are used for lots of things including zigzag quilts (I love those!) and the rectangles get made into stacked coin quilts. It's almost like I'm making quilt kits for myself. If I don't get scraps cut, then they might get used in a string quilt. I love those too.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I'm in Bath, England :) I don't have much in the way of scraps yet, but I'm saving little bits of fabric and hoping to build up a collection. Looking forward to making a scraps ticker-tape quilt someday!
ReplyDeleteI live in Upstate NY. I love scraps, love using every bit of fabric that I can and creating something out of leftovers.
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day.....thanks for the opportunity to win this lovely book....it has been on my Quilt books to buy list for awhile now.
ReplyDeleteI live in Sudbury, Ontario Canada and have been collecting scraps now for about 1 year after being inspired by one of our Guild members who gave a trunk show and lecture on her scrap saving system and the resulting quilts.
Thanks for the chance to win this giveaway..It would make for great inspiration.
sharon.bourque@sympatico.ca
Happy Birthday Amanda Jean! Happy 4th of July! I live in northwest Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin border. I like the look of scrappy quilts and it feels like I'm making the quilt for free! And I never have to worry about having enough of one fabric. Thanks for the chance to win! ~Jeanne
ReplyDeleteHi! I live in sunny San Diego. I have been following your blog for a few years now and have basically taught myself how to quilt by relying on your blog quite a bit! So, as I am still in the learning process, I love scraps because they can be so forgiving! You can piece them together any which way and it still looks cute.
ReplyDeleteI live in Lethbridge, Alberta and it is Canada Day here, as you have mentioned! For me my hesitation to play with scraps is the fact mine are not very organized right now. I would like to use some of mine up by making placemats that I could give as gifts. I like the photo of your green scraps in the basket and think I should make one of those baskets for myself! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun give-away! I’m from the Netherlands and I love to work with scraps cause it’s much more fun than cutting into a fq! I think that other people’s scraps always look nicer.
ReplyDeleteMy LQS offers scraps for € 1.- per 100 grams (1/10 kg) which is cheap here. Their standard collection is very traditional but they offer fun scraps which they buy specially for their scrap bag.
The above anonymous is me, Jody :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I'm in Lakewood, CO (a city outside Denver). I have to say the challenge is that I have a time not being matchy or watching placement of colors. The thing I love is when I'm able to put that aside and mix up the scrap bin and just reach inside. I just printed off the paper piecing pattern for the spider web quilt block yesterday and planned to start on a scrap quilt next. Maybe the book has a better idea for my scrappy quilt.
ReplyDeleteI live in Denmark. And I have been interested in patchwork/quilting since 1968.
ReplyDeleteMy morher was a taylor and I started playing with her scraps. When she died 24 years ago I inherited her scraps and I try to some of them in every quilt I make.
Marie Dejn hpr@post9.tele.dk
I'm in Oregon, and I what I love the most about my scrap quilts, is that each little bit of fabric links back (usually) to a bigger quilt that I made, and often gave away to a loved one. It's a way to tie us together, if that makes sense. Thanks for the chance to win this lovely book!
ReplyDeleteMy scraps are out of control. I have such a hard time coming up with something to use them all!
ReplyDeleteI live in Wisconsin. I love love love scraps. In fact I prefer them to yardage (I always hate cutting into a big piece.) Scrappiest quilts are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased your book, but since I'm a new quilter, it's more of a "someday" book--pure eye candy. In the meantime, I really appreciate those shops that sell scrap packs, and I pick them up whenever possible. And I'm diligently working at making my own scraps.
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, I live in Sacramento, CA. I love scraps and make lots of scrappy quilts. I think the challenge, like others have noted, is having a good mix of scraps. I don't really like it when my quilts all look "the same" because they're made from the same scraps. I would be thrilled to win your book and all that scrappy goodness. Thanks for the chance. mdmontalvo@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteScraps are my middle name - well more accurately, my blogs subtitle "second-hand scraps". Love the giveaway prizes..ooohhh... there is something especially rewarding about creating beauty out of cast offs. The most challenging this I deal with is not letting go - even when they are little tiny bits, knowing when a scrap becomes trash.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm a beginner but I love scraps: I think that the scraps are the exact patchwork's philosophy!
ReplyDeleteI live in Italy, near Venice. Thanks for the giveaway!
After my dog chewed a hole in one of my favorite quilts and I didn't have any scraps to repair it, I now save my scraps, but I have WAYYYY to many of them. It's time to start using up my scraps so I can enjoy them and make others happy by sharing the beautiful quilts that "scrappy" makes. I'd love to win the book...Happy Canada Day and Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI love working with scraps, especially when you can take a bunch of disparate pieces from different projects and sources and turn them into something pretty and cohesive. It's so rewarding!
ReplyDeleteI live in North Carolina. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSaludos
Maria
This is mighty generous of you ladies, thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love scraps. Once you are down to the scrap level everything matches everything else. All rules go out hte window. just plain fun.
Happy days all around! I love working with scraps because I feel less pressure. I do not have to worry about cutting into some beautiful yardage and then thinking I did not do my best job with it. Thanks for the chance to win. Enjoy your birthday and the Canadian and US holidays.
ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful stash, yet I find myself sewing scraps...I love them, they make quilts as interesting today as they did in the past
ReplyDeleteI live in Helsinki Finland. for me there is only one way to do quilts. I love to make them out of scraps. I found most challenging to combine modern and traditional scraps, I love them both.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI live in Spokane Washington and scrap quilts are my favorite!! I am currently trying to work on my scrap stash with a 3/4 hexagon quilt so this would be a great addition!! Though i'm sure if I win the book one of your amazing designs would be started! Blessings for sharing
ReplyDeleteI'm writing from Redwood City, CA. I saw your book at our guild in person and didn't get to spend enough time with it; I'd love to win it. I have created two different ticker piles for myself for when I feel like I'm up for the challenge. Looks like a great giveaway to celebrate all the good things this week. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love working with the bits and pieces... when I started quilting beyond utility quitls the biggest problem I had was buying yardage and cutting big pieces into small pieces... just did not seem right
ReplyDeleteladybecket2002atyahoodotcom
I live in Murrieta, CA, about 60 miles north of San Diego, but not on the coast. I love using scraps, they bring back memories of past projects.
ReplyDeleteJeg bor i Molde på vestkysten av Norway. Jeg liker å sy av utklipp, har laget flere tepper, og synes det er en morsom utfordring å sette sammen mange små utklipp med ulike farger. En flott give away!!
ReplyDeleteI have your book and I love it!!
ReplyDeleteBut a girl can never have too many scraps, oops that has gotten me into trouble as my scraps tend to get out of control. I think the hardest thing about scrap sewing is trying not to get to matchy-matchy with them. My favorite things about using scraps is that I feel like I'm getting something for nothing and I love seeing bits and pieces of fabrics I've loved in other projects.
Happy Fourth of July
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular giveaway. When I found Bonnie Hunter's blog I started looking at scraps in a whole new way. I have been purchasing quilt store scrap bags and participating in fabric swaps to grow my stash. I just love looking at a quilt with lots of different fabrics in it.
Hi! I live in Lymington in England, so I know I don`t qualify for your giveaway, but had to tell you how much I`ve enjoyed your book ( I bought it a little while ago), and that it's inspired me to piece the back of the quilt I'm working on, for the very first time! Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeletefirst of all,I'll tell you, where I'm from, so that you can realize, that you and Cheryl's wonderful book have fans all over the world ;-) I'm from Cologne/Germany und love your book because it gives quilters the confidence, that you don't need the latest fabric collections in creating modern quilts. Your tips of fabric and color choice are awesome and I like the idea, that even when I try one of your patterns, I'll have a totally different quilt in the end than yours! At the moment, I'm sewing the leaves and vine quilt, but I know, that some day I'll start the Nap Like an Egyptian ;-) My favourite sentence in your book is: "There are no snuggles if you don't sew" So nice, I love it!!!
Have a nice day, Martina
I love scraps so much that I no longer purchase yardage but instead search for scrap bag sales on etsy
ReplyDeletegreat give-away - thanks a lot
in the middle of a heatwave here in the US
I live in a small town in NE Georgia and I love scraps. I have scraps in plastic containers all over my sewing room. Often I think about my children and what they will think when it is time for them to help me clean out my house. None of them sew, so it will interesting. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteAmanda Jean - Happy Birthday soon. I live in Guelph Ontario. I am saving up scraps to make the wall hanging Leaves and Vine from your book. I love the book, lots of creative ideas to do with those bits and pieces.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway. I adore scraps and use them regularly -- which I find can be a problem when I need a lot of yardage for a back or a more coordinated quilt. You have great scraps....I'll be posting my It Takes a Village as soon as I get it bound and it's pretty much made from friends' scraps of batiks!
ReplyDeleteJan
I am in Ohio. I like the look of scrappy quilts but I don't have enough scraps to do anything with them. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE scraps. Yes it's fun to go to the fabric store and purchase new fabrics to make a quilt. But I find that I get most inspired by and make my best with quilts with scraps!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'm on a Army post in Germany (mailwise still in the US) and I just love how scraps have so many different possibilities and can bring excitement to a quilt instead of all being the same.

ReplyDeleteI`m from Spain, but I`d love said that I love scraps. This year I joined a group called String thin along.I enjoyed played with my scraps and hope to finish my top.Yes,I know i`m out of your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI live in north-central PA and love working with scraps. I've been working through all of my leftover batik scraps from my Jane Stickle quilt and making pillows, tablerunners, etc. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI live in the US. I love working with scraps, but I find it hard to make them fit the project that I want to make sometimes. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteScraps are challenging because I have to THINK! Doink!
ReplyDeleteI love making improvisational quilts which make my brain work overtime. Scrambling around for just the right color and size makes me feel like Sherlock Holmes on the hunt.
I'm on the east coast. I love working with scraps - it is great to bring all different colors together and I also like looking back and remembering other projects made by those same fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a chance to work with scraps, but I definitely think it would be more of a challenge but with fantastic results!
ReplyDeleteI love working with scraps although I never seem to have enough. I'm from very hot Kentucky .
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI live in Denmark, Europe. I love your book, but I don´t have enought fabric to make just one of all the lovely patterns in it.
Hope to win some scrap.
Best
Annie
Happy Birthday soon Amanda, ;) my sister's birthday falls on 10th July so I am giving her a surprise present!
ReplyDeleteI love scraps!!!! and there are many possibilities of scraps turning into quilt, pot holders, table runners, coin pouch etc.... And good color combinations can result a lovely piece of treasure!!
Greeting from Singapore!
i live in Ohio and I LOVE using up scraps! Almost everything I make is scrappy in one way or another, because I'm on a fabric diet and have been using only my stash for a year now. Thanks for the chance to win your book! :0)
ReplyDeleteHellloooo. I live in central Indiana where is has been very hot and humid...perfect sewing weather!! I love scraps and just completed a string quilt, as can be seen on my blog. I fell in love with the techique and want to do a spiderweb quilt next. It is always fun to get scraps from someone else to mix things up a little. thank you for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI live near Birmingham in the UK and find using scraps so therapeutic - you haven't spent any money on it, so somehow that means you can just follow where it seems to be taking you, and its always a pleasant surprise!
ReplyDeleteRepresentin' Austin, TX! Would love to win me some scrap - I'm in the process of building my stash so I can have enough fabric for one of your patterns.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday and Happy Early Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI live in southern Indiana and have become much more fond of scraps since I started reading your book. I have learned to really enjoy the leftover pieces and find ways to use them. I have also gotten overwhelmed with the volume of scraps. You have taught me that it's ok to part with them at times too. I now gift some of my little pieces to a friend's daughters for their play. It's a win for everyone. Thanks for such a generous giveaway!
Scraps...well, I love them because they are spontaneous. Scrappy quilts are happy quilts.
ReplyDeleteHi from Sweden! I love scraps because I like recykling!
ReplyDeleteBecause It's summer, I'm living beside a lake in Pennsylvania. During the winter I live beside the ocean in South Carolina, the best of both worlds! Scraps are like sprilkles on a cake, fun, colorful, and yummy.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a big user of scraps, but have been wanting to try a ticker tape quilt. Your scraps look lovely! July 5th is my 43rd anniversay, so maybe I'll be lucky!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI live in Northwest Wisconsin, and I love scraps. I try to make extra blocks from all of the scraps from specific quilts and then put then into a sampler quilt when I have enough blocks!
ReplyDeleteWow -- I'd love to win this! I live just outside of Nashville, and my biggest challenge with scraps is that I don't have that many! I can't buy a ton of fabric because I'm not an extremely productive quilter (maybe a few a year, not a few a month). I'm also trying to answer that age-old question of how big a piece to save. I guess that's personal to each quilter. Thanks for this great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm from NW Ohio and use scraps to patch well-loved baby blankets. My grandmother taught me how to tie & hem baby quilts and since she passed last Thanksgiving, I've been patching all the quilts for the grands, great-grands and cousins.
ReplyDeleteI miss her so much. I've got another little one on the way and wish we could spend hours together around her kitchen table making the new baby's quilt together. I kills me that I didn't buy her table at the auction. It really was such a special piece of furniture.
I’m in Lewes Delaware, the first town in the first state. I love love love scraps, can I tell you how much I love scraps. Scraps work in so many projects and even the smallest scrap can be useful somewhere. But the most challenging thing about scraps is their ability to reproduce. Regardless of where you put them or how you store them, there are always twice as many when you pull them out to work with them again.
ReplyDeleteOops! I forgot to say that I live in Iowa!
ReplyDeleteAnd the rest of my comment: I like scrap quilts, but it seems like I haven't been quilting long enough to have accumulated enough scraps yet! Don't worry - I'll keep working on it! :)
thanks for the chance to win!
I live in Pasadena CA. I have never made a scrape quilt and just starting thinking about making one. It seems as though it will be a relaxing and liberating project, to let the random fabrics guide and shape the project. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on scraps: Oh how I wish I could sew them up as fast as I can make them!
ReplyDeleteI'm intimidated by scraps. I love an "organized" quilt and the thought of making something with just scraps is a big hurdle for me. I'm dying to make a ticker tape quilt but I'm worried it will look terrible because my scraps don't blend.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved scraps. I especially like strings because you get to use a large variety of fabrics. Why use 5 when you can use 55? That's my motto.
ReplyDeleteI live in Knoxville, Tennessee, and as far as scraps go, my opinion is that I don't have enough of them! :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoying the holiday weekend here in Canada! I love scraps, biggest problem I have is not having enough, or enough color variation, as I'm fairly new to quilting.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should as about scraps. I just spent about 6 hours going through a big bag of them, cutting them into usuable sized pieces, 5" squares, 2 1/2 inch strips, 2 inch strips, 1 1/2 inch strips and 1 1/4 inch strips. Odd sized pieces were cut with my Accuquilt into the small tumbler shape. After cutting and organizing that bag, I don't feel as though my scraps are so out of control. I still have a big box to go through, but that can wait for another day. Anyhow, I live in Iowa, was born and raised in Wisconsin, and before moving to Iowa, I lived in Minnesota. Truly a midwestern girl. I have never met a scrap quilt I didn't like! I'm too thrifty to throw those scraps away.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Happy Birthday! Mine is the 4th!
I live in western Oregon where summer weather doesn't really start for another week or so!
ReplyDeleteScraps are great. When my kids were little I used to keep a "scrap box", where I would put all my bits of fabric, and I'd let them play and sort and toss scraps into the air.
I like the randomness of using scraps in quilts, but it can be tough if I want my quilt to be predominantly one color. Does that mean I need more fabric? ;)
Thanks for the nice giveaway! Happy Birthday to you.
I'm from Canada - whooo happy Canada day!!
ReplyDeleteYou"ve introduced me to scraps - I made a cutie little baby quilt with some recently and loved it!!
Hiya! I already have your book and I love it! Send money instead!! just kiddin.. I love to pet my scraps and sort them lol. I've made a few mini quilts with scraps, but I find it challenging to get enough of a certain type or color to make anything big. You're awesome, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI live in Wisconsin and I love making monochromatic crumb blocks with my scraps!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Amanda!!!
I love scrap fabric; I made an hexagone charm quilt and I loved it.
I found that I don't have to be picky and try to match all the colors; usually the color that make the quilt glow is the one that did not match.
I find that I don't have enough time to make all the quilts that I would love to do!
cyeon(at)videotron(dot)ca from Canada
I live in New Hampshire. I usually make a scrap quilt after making another quilt with the same fabric, and find I'm tired of working in the same palate, or I don't haven enough of the fabric left to carry it off.
ReplyDeleteI live in Riga, Latvia where quilting cotton is hard to come by, so I have been gathering scraps but haven't really worked out what to do with them yet!
ReplyDeleteforgot to mention, I'm from N.C. thanks for chance at this great giveaway..
ReplyDeleteI am a scrap-a-holic! It is always the first thing I lokk at in a quilt shop.. remnants and scrap bags. : ) and I am in BC, Canada! Happy Canada Day!
ReplyDeleteI live in Leominster, Massachusetts, formerly known as the plastics capital of the world! You know those pink plastic flamingos people put in their yards? Those started here! The originals are still made here too, and the flamingo character, Featherstone, from Gnomeo and Juliet was named after the guy who invented them who still lives in the area!
ReplyDeleteScraps are great to work with because it's almost like making something out of nothing. I love to make something fun and new without going to the store to purchase anything. Just using what I have is very satisfying.
Great giveaway! Happy Canada Day! And have a great birthday too!

I live in Connecticut (now), and I love scraps! I love the variations you get with scraps -- not so matchy-matchy. It makes for a more visually interesting quilt. My biggest challenge in working with scraps is that because the pieces are so small, they take so long to make. And they keep multiplying, so there are always more scraps. And one more quilt to make. And one more.
ReplyDeleteI live in Southern Indiana. Right now I am just starting to quilt and keep my scraps. Before hand I was always doing big projects so I never kept my scraps. I'm doing some e-reader covers right now to use my scraps. Great giveaway and happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteI love working with scraps, but sometimes it's a double edged sword. I feel like I can do anything I want with scraps without having to worry about messing them up, but . . . often it can be hard to mix and match them because there are so little of them left. lol
ReplyDeleteI live in Nashville (whew, it's hot!) and would love to be somewhere cooler about now. Thanks for the giveaway -- I have a collection of signed books that I pet almost as much as my fabrics. lol
I love scraps! I have bought many a scrap pack on Etsy from bloggers I follow. I love to find inspiration in fabrics that are outside of my normal realm of comfort.
ReplyDeleteI already own your book, but I'd love to win a copy and give it to my mom.
I'm in Seattle. Summer starts here with the upcoming holiday. I think playing with scraps would be very freeing. g
ReplyDeleteHello from Seattle, it's July 1st and I still have my electric blanket on my bed! My scraps are currently in a large pile under my sewing table - hopefully I'll get them sorted soon so that they are usable.
ReplyDeleteI'm in North Carolina. I'm new to quilting, just started my first Block of the Month & already see the benefits of scraps! I'm saving everything! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am a new quilter but I already love scraps. I am slowly trying to organize my scraps, into squares, strips, and ticker tape size. I am an international reader (Canada).
ReplyDeleteScraps! I love scraps, specially now that I'm in a tight situation and can't buy any fabric. Scraps are very welcome and they really make wonderful projects. I'm from Portugal. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI live in a little town in NW Ohio called Tiffin. If you've heard of Cedar Point I am about 45 minutes southeast of there.
ReplyDeleteI love everything about scrappy quilts because just about everything goes. My quilty flux with scrap quilting is that I can't use colored lights or whites/neutrals with colors in them for scrap quilting.

I live in Toronto, and I love scraps! I don't buy a lot of fabric so end up using scraps a lot. Would love to win some of yours.
ReplyDeleteI live in the far southwest corner of New York - pretty close to Erie, PA. I love the look of scrap quilts, but find it difficult to actually make one. Maybe winning would change that? Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI live in a small historic town in metro Atlanta--close enough to the city to commute easy but far enough away to enjoy some peace & quiet. Ah scraps--I like scraps in theory but they tend to overrun everything and be a nuisance. Truthfully, I need to use more of them in my quilting.
ReplyDeleteI live in Athens, GA and am miserably hot this Sunday... Thanks for the chance to win!

I live in the Netherlands. I love to work with scraps, but I have never enough of them. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteI live in Chattanooga (and we're melting down here today!). I actually don't use scraps very much, but am slowly collecting some so that I can make some pot holders that are actually pretty. So right now I'm ambivalent about scraps--but I hate to waste any fabric, so I love the idea of using them!
ReplyDeleteSouthern Utah I love the freedom or colors and sizes that scraps have. some of my favorite quilts are so radom, just strips everywhich way and they are the most colorful. Thanks.Love your book.
ReplyDeleteI live in Santa Cruz, CA which I love!
ReplyDeleteI adore scraps, they're great for paper piecing and small block work. I just like the feeling of getting as much out of my fabric as possible.
Thanks for the lovely giveaway!
I'm Julie in NH. I love to use scraps in quilts. It keeps me connected to other quilts I've made and the people I've made them for. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I love scraps. Every little scrap used is from this dress, that quilt or whatever and such memories. My problem is that I have enough OCD that I want my quilt to match or use the same fabric line. I need lessons in letting go. Thanks for a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI live in Hawaii, & I don't like scraps that much. I just never have enough of the ones I like & have too much of ones that don't look quite right
ReplyDeleteI live in colorful Colorado (which unfortunately is on fine right now)! I love scraps, my only challenge is that a lot of my prints are larger and it makes the scraps not so usable. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteHi I am in western NC, yesterday we hit 101. Inside cool and sewing. I am starting to become a fan of scraps. I love making mug rugs and placemats with them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the wonderful give away!

My name is Myreda and I live in southern Ohio. Your giveaway scraps are awesome! I am a scrap collector from way back and have made many scrap quilts over the years. I love scraps and I would love to add some of these to my collection. Thanks for having the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteUsing scraps feels so good! I love the way they can randomly come together in a way you might not (I wouldn't) plan. I tend to use them, here in the Pacific NW, on the backs of quilts which I sometimes like better than the fronts!
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada Day!!! I live in Alberta!! The reason I quilt is because I fell in love with my Baba's (grandma) scrap quilts when I was a youngin'. Its the only type I make. Someday I should try & get out of that habit, but for now, I LOVE IT! Good luck to all!
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, I love your quilts! I'm from Holland and I'd like to enter your give away. You never have too m uch scrap!

Hi, I'm Jenny in Billdal, Sweden, Scandinavia. I just love scraps! I think part of the reason for my love is the unpretentious thing about scraps. I sew for relaxing and the joy of creating and just to "sew away" with scraps is wonderful I think. Like therapy in a way :-) Colorful scraps - me like!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a great blog!

I live in Edinburgh in Scotland and love using scraps! All my quilts have them in some form or other. I love using a wide variety of fabrics in a particular colour, and if they have a family connection, so much the better. I find using scraps of fabrics gives a much richer, unexpected surface to the quilt I have been known to cut out wee bits of a particular colour from a large piece if it's the shade I need... I also like scraps that extra colours in them too - so a mainly green pice may have a bit of orange or pink - more surface interest.
ReplyDeleteI live in the panhandle of Florida. I love scraps and have lots and lots with equally many plans. Thus far I have made lots of quilts for my Granddaughters' baby dolls.
ReplyDeleteHave a great birthday when it comes! I live in the Isle of Man. I'm fairly new to quilting so don't have many scraps - I do save all my scraps in the hope that one day I will have enough for a quilt.
ReplyDeleteHi from Israel! I'm a very matchy-matchy quilter, and have only recently discovered the beauty of fabric synergy! I now take good care of my scraps :) and love how a non-coordinating fabric can make a whole quilt sing.
ReplyDeleteI live in the country, just outside Uppsala, Sweden. I love fabrics, want to use every inch of them. Right now I´m saving scraps for a Postage Stamps Quilt. I´m always looking for new ideas to use scraps.

When it's too hot to go outside, I love to be at my sewing machine playing with scraps!
ReplyDeleteI currently (15 years) live in Colorado. A proud Navy brat, so I have lived all over, but I still call Washington state my home. I have a nice little stash of scraps, but not sure where to go with them. Your book has given me some hope to make good use of them. I have loved the idea of a Ticker Tape quilt and would love to use up my scraps to make one. I love your blog and your book, any chance of a second book?
ReplyDeleteI love to challenge myself to use up every single scrap after a project. Soon I will be making a post on all the projects that I was able to get out of a layer cake. I had a chance to work with one for the first time and enjoyed not only the "main project" but also the secondary ones.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get a copy of the book!!!!!! I live in Argentina. Thanks!!!!!!!!
Using up a lot of scraps is what I find challenging. It seems that they don't get used up - they multiply. I love working in solids.
ReplyDeleteI live in Toronto, Ontario and so, for today I must say Happy Canada Day. 145 years old.
I live in Utah. I love the challange of using every little scrap. I am not very good about having solids but they are a must. There is just something about scraps.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI live in steamy sweltering South Carolina where we have set record heat temps the last few days. 109 degrees anyone? Scraps and scrap quilts are my absolute favorites. I have made several scrap quilts and runners and am lucky to have some made by both of my grandmothers (two from the 1930s, even!). I have never won a blog contest, and have only tried to enter a few, so thanks very much for this opportunity!

Hi! My name is Alyce Rodriguez & I live in Duncanville, TX, which is just outside of Dallas. I am very new to quilting (just completed my first quilt this month), so I do not have a scrap stash so to speak, but I think the most challenging thing for me would be coordinating colors of scraps. Thanks & Happy Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteI live in the cold and gray pacific NW and I love scraps!
ReplyDeleteI live in the southern US and scraps are 99% of what I work with. Why use a few fabrics when you can use dozens? I am so bored working with just a few fabrics. And using those same fabrics over and over in a quilt is stifling. I love to receive someone else's scraps as they are rarely ever what I have. I would so love that book as I have seen some of the reviews and it looks just great. Have not seen it anywhere for sale in a shop.
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm Jess from Indiana. I absolutely LOVE scraps! I can't stand to throw any of my lovely fabric scraps away. Right now my scraps are reserved mostly for a Dear Jane quilt. I plan on using a different fabric for each square! I use my fabric strings for a crocheted rug. The challenging part about scraps is deciding whether or not they are too small to use.
ReplyDeleteI'm a scrap lover from Southeast Michigan. Scrappy quilts just have such a vintage look.

What a fun giveaway! I love working with scraps because I get to re-visit some of my favorite fabrics. I hate working with scraps because sometimes I wish I had huge amounts left of my favorite fabrics :D I'm in Portland, OR
