vintage sheet skirt

Well, I'm happy to be able to cross one more thing off the list! I sewed up this A line skirt yesterday afternoon. I'm so pleased with it! I started with a partial vintage sheet that I got from Heather a few years ago. It's crazy how much lag time there is from acquiring fabric to actually sewing with it...but I digress! I was able to eek out just enough length for my skirt. I added a lining, which is a detail that gave me a bit of trouble, but it was well worth the stitch ripping in the end. Overall, the skirt has a really nice finished look and feel. The lining adds a lot of stability to the skirt...which is nice. :) This is the same pattern I used for this skirt, which I sewed nearly one year ago. The pattern came from the book Flirt Skirts, which is a very handy resource for skirt sewing. The only issue with this one is that it is a little too wide for me. But no worries, I've got big hips. It's good that they are good for something. :)

Darling skirt - it looks great! I'm seeing so many people making such cute summer skirts I'm starting to rethink the fact that I have pretty much stopped sewing clothes.

Great job, it looks terrific! I never bump into vintage sheets that pretty, I always seem to find the ones with Strawberry Shortcake or something....

Funny, I was thinking of my skirt fabric too. You are on a roll. I love that you took photos of the second skirt in the same spot at the first. I foresee a series... :-)

Looks so cute on you! I absolutely despise shorts so skirts are my friend all summer long. May just have to add this one to my list. Smiles-Beth

It is wonderful. I plan on making sow skirts this summer. Using a sheet is a great idea. What kind of fabric did u use for the lining?

Very pretty skirt! And your van trash cans are sweet, too!

I like your skirt. Almost makes me want to sew clothing again. As for the length of time between acquiring fabric and using it, I think of that as getting use to the fabric. I don't like new fabric, I have to let it 'age' awhile before using. Thanks for sharing.

I'm inspired to sew a summer dress from a vintage sheet, now! There should be enough fabric in one sheet, I'd think.

I absolutely love the color and sweet simple lines...great job!! Another use for vintage sheets, guess I am going to have to get on the band wagon now and hunt for some!

So cute! I wish (a) I could wear skirts well, and (b) I could sew skirts well. Haha!

Fiesta,

I used cotton fabric for the lining...specifically a white grunge print from Moda that I wasn't particularly crazy about. I had plenty and it worked well as the lining because it's all hidden underneath.
