Connecting Threads has a brand spankin' new fabric line called
Matsuri. It's
be-au-t-iful cotton lawn fabric. If you aren't sure exactly what cotton
lawn fabric is, thankfully wikipedia knows! I had to do a little research myself. This fabric is so, so nice and the colors are wonderful!
The top left print in the block above is my absolute favorite! I was very curious to how it would sew up, since it is such fine fabric, but it sews up beautifully. I'm sashing it with
plain white quilting cotton, and I'm happy to report that mixing the fabric weights is working very well. It's another thing I was curious about.

film in the fridge. I think it compliments the fabric quite nicely....clean lines and perfectly sized pieces to show off the pretty prints. It's handy that I didn't have to do the math, either. Thank you, Ashley! :)
I was going to make it a lap size, as that seems to be my default size when it comes to quilt making. But about a week ago I was sewing with a few friends in the church basement. As I was working on my blocks they asked what size I was going to make the quilt.
Heather, who's motto in quilting is "go big or go home", suggested I keep going. So....I'm now making this a
king size. You gotta be careful who you ask advice from! When I showed my husband the photo, he said he really liked it. Works out well, since it will eventually be on our bed!
This is what I've got so far. (Please excuse the weird lines from the church basement floor.) I'm not excited to add all that skinny sashing in between, but it's going to be totally worth it! Right???

I typically do twin size. I'm tall 6' and my hubby is 6'6" and thus a "lap" quilt really wouldn't do it for us. A twin size really ends up being a lap quilt and then when my children steal it for their beds it works wonderfully there too!

Most of my quilts are lap size. Recently I've made several baby quilts, although I make them a little on the large size. They go together quickly and are easier to quilt on my home machine.
I generally default to Queen with a few Twins thrown in for good measure, since those are the sizes of beds in our house. The only time I do smaller quilts is if I'm making a baby gift. All my throw quilts for the couch are Twins, because who wants to curl up with a quilt that isn't big enough to cover neck to toes? I have yet to tackle a King quilt, but since I have a commission in just that size, I'll be starting one very soon!

For me the size of the quilt is determined by what it will be used for when it is finished. I recently started a scrap quilt that began as a lap and ended as a large queen. My hubby kept saying to make it bigger. Now, I am working on charity quilts for premies, really small. If I have no specific requirement, they are usually lap size. Love Connecting Threads. I have been trying to make a king size quilt for a couple years but everytime they all end up queen size. Which is great for others because I keep giving them away. So, my size is queen size kind of like me. Ha ha
i usually start out with a baby quilt in mind, then evolve to an adult size lap quilt. dont know how that happens!!!

My preference is usually to larger sizes, I lean more towards queen size(or a smidge larger) because most of my friends and family have queen size beds... But I can definately see smaller ones for babies.
I nearly always make a king quilt. That way if I am giving it away, it will fit a king size bed or they can use it for a bedspread.

My default size is oversize Queen. When starting, I always think...oh, this pattern would look soooo nice in our bedroom, and I go crazy cutting and starting. But then I lose steam or get enticed by another project, and before I know it, I have another UFO. So lap size makes much more sense, and I'm trying to force myself to do those now. I've had good success with my last 4-5 quilts, so maybe I am I am rehabilitating myself. ;)

Love the fabric!! Well, I've only made baby quilts so far. And only a few of those. So, I don't know if that is enough data to qualify as a "default" size! :-) But when I think about quilt ideas they are always long lap sized. And I have a lap sized quilt project in the works...
Your quilt is lovely. I seem to default to a 80 X 80-ish size. It's big enough for my queen bed. I do, however, have a thing for making seasonal throws. I can't commit to a whole Easter quilt, but it makes perfect sense in a small size for my couch!

I make baby size quilts most often but I dream in full size because I have an antique bed my grandmother gave me and it was always topped with one of her quilts.
I make mostly king size - everyone has king size beds, these days. I've done some crib and laps and a couple of full/queen size, but mostly, I make giant quilts. :)

Wow - as I post this comment, there are 433 before me! I have to say, my default quilt size has been queen lately. Not that it fits my own bed, but if I fold it in half, it fits my kids' bunk beds. LOVE, LOVE your blog and I LOVE the pattern for this quilt!

I have 13 grand children so I have made plenty of child size quilts, but I also like the lap size because they are easier to machine quilt than the bigger sizes.

baby size - I like to stick to one fabric width on the back, so ~40" x ~50". This fabric looks cute!
The size will vary from 40 X 40 for crib to 50 x 62. Or larger. I end up changing my mind about a border or not. Or worse...I run out of fabric! I'm new at this but I have developed a fabric addiction already.
I also default to lap sized quilts. I love the fabric - so pretty and fresh!
My default is lap quilt, as well. But, I also make baby quilts. I made a queen for my mom last winter and quilting it on my machine was incredibly stressful. Took the fun out of it for me. I would eventually like to make one to fit my bed though, so I guess it's something to work toward!

My default quilt size is usually queen sized. That fits my bed, but also makes for a great couch quilt. We're a tall family who likes to snuggle together to watch movies, so bigger works just fine.
I think I just go for a pattern that jumps out at me! I really have no preference (although my Honeyman likes one that he can cover his whole body in he is 6 ft tall LOL) Beautiful fabric and I LOVE Connecting Threads!!
My favourite quilt size is Queen. I don't really know anyone who has a king, and I've always though Queen sized duvets and quilts on a double look great. I try to do for 90" wide and at least 100" long but I'm less picky about the length.

I always have made queen size quilts for my bed, but I am consciously downsizing my default. I recently made a crib quilt and had so much fun as it went so quickly. So my new default size is crib quilt! Much easier to quilt too!

I usually make large baby quilts. I am a family and consumer science teacher and I make a quilt for all the babies born to teachers in my building. I love to try out new techniques and a baby quilt is a fun way to decide if I like the technique.

Love your quilts! I usually end up somewhere between twin sized and full sized. I our family is tall, so we like our sofa blankets to be BIG. Also like being able to use them on kid's beds for quilts, or even stretch them to a full bed in the future.
I don't have a default size yet! I've *technically* only finished one quilt and it was 45"x45". BUT I am actively working on one King, one Queen, and two twin size quilts! So I guess the default is... just making a quilt! :o)

I like 45x60. They come together quickly but they are large enough to appreciate the design.

I default to lap size too. Anything bigger I'd definitely have to plan for in advance, and if I'm doing something larger, I really want to use fabric I LOVE if I'm going to put the time in. Lap quilts are quicker and more fun for experimenting.

I really loved this fabric when I saw it on Connecting Threads. In fact, I ordered some and received it in the mail today. I didn't read the product description, so I was a little shocked when I felt the weight of the fabric, but I was thrilled to see it on your blog and read your comments regarding how well it was sewing together. That puts some of my fears at rest. I am planning to make a disappearing nine-patch with this fabric, so I'd love to win some extra pieces. I usually make my quilts to fit a full-size bed, but it honestly depends on how much I am enjoying the pattern I'm working on. If it's something I enjoy sewing, then it might turn out huge, but if it's tedious, well... it might be a baby quilt or a table runner. I don't really do a lot of planning.

I generally shoot for queen size but they often come in a bit shy...as long as they are big enough to cover the top of the bed, I'm happy. All my kids want quilts for their beds, so I'm stuck making larger sizes.

I like that floral print too! That is a LOT of squares,... and a LOT of sashing. I think, like you, I tend to go lap size with my quilts. I dont have a huge machine, so they seem to be the biggest I would attempt at the moment. Baby quilts are great and I always forget that I can make smaller quilts too! 45 x 60. or a similiar lap size. It's a good size to do some playing around and experimenting with.
My default is a twin size - and I don't have a twin size bed in the house! That's because nap quilts aren't big enough for me to snuggle in; I like to be able to cover my toes and tuck under my chin without it feeling tight. I think twin is the perfect size for TV watching, taking a nap, and folds nicely over the end of any bed just waiting to be pulled up and snuggled.
My default size is about 60x70...the required size for Quilts of Valor!

Opps, I want to start a quilt for more than 20 years, but never did - maybe this time?
I don't have a "default" size. I Just started quilting last June. I have made everything from minis to king-sized. We figured it up the other day and I have completed 20 quilts since I started. 5 are minis. Can you say compulsive quilter? lol
i don't have a default quilt size as of yet as i am a new quilter just learning ..... i do seem to gravitate towards the lap quilt size though in patterns..... i hope to tackle one in the future :)
I just was checking out this line of fabric last night when I got my Connecting Threads catalog. I usually go for lap size quilts too.
Crib size! They're quick and easy and great for Project Linus. :)
I usually make a lap size because I don't think my machine could handle more than that when quilting!

I don't really have a favorite size as it depends on so many things - the recipient especially. Right now, I'm working on finishing some large quilts, king size and queen size. What a great giveaway!

I just received their magazine in the mail and was drooling over this fabric. So pretty. I would say my default size quilt right now is baby quilt size. 45 x 60.
A lawn quilt sounds lovely. I am hoping to one day get around to making a quilt out of voiles - soft and lightweight, yum! My default size is usually twin, or slightly smaller. But I make quilts for my kids and other peoples kids, so twin is what I usually end up with. I hope to one day make a king size, but, yikes, am scared of having to quilt that!

Lap quilts are my default too.. Can be a generous baby quilt too....
My default size is baby-quilt! I have several already made, but when I find out about a new baby, I use it as an excuse to make ANOTHER one.

I typically stick with baby and toddler size. So many of my friends are either pregnant, have babies or toddlers, so they make easy go-to gifts!!
I have 2 toddlers of my own and am due August 2nd with our 3rd child.
I make lots of different sizes, but probably most often baby quilts as that has been what the demand has been :)

Am on my third baby quilt and have only just finished the top to a queen-sized quilt, which might be my last, so guess baby quilts would be the ones I like the most as a new sewer. Love that fabric!
Since most of my quilts are given away as gifts, they tend to be a large lap size.. but lately it seems I am stuck in baby quilt land.. Thanks for the lovely giveaway, gorgeous fabrics!
Since I still consider myself a newbie quilter, I don't have a favorite size yet, but I do know that I sure enjoyed making baby size quilts after spending weeks making a queen size!

What beautiful fabric! I tend to make lap quilts but I have been asked to make a Queen size one for my son and daughter-in-law and I'm feeling nervous about undertaking such a big size so they are still waiting for me

I make table toppers if I want to experiment or only have a little of a specific fabric. Otherwise it depends on whether it's for my bed or someone else or a raffle quilt for an org. VermontPines at aol dot com
I love baby quilts. Our family is almost out of babies though, so I am going to have to start going bigger!

If you should happen to pick me, I think a 60" x 72" quilt sounds great! I actually just usually make patchwork dresses for my girls with quilting squares!!
I've made few enough quilts that I don't really have a default. But I like to go bigger as my hubby is very tall and lap quilts don't quilt give him the toe to chin coverage he's looking for!
After making 15 queen size quilts I moved down to lap quilts. This past month, I have been in baby mode. Just ordered your book. :) Love Connecting Threads! The fabric is beautiful.

My go to size is table topper! I am challenged by the actual quilting part of quilt projects. Basic sewing machine and no confidence in my skills! Learned to sew with patterns and need that safety net! Diane

It seems like I'm always making baby quilts, so I'd say crib size is my default size!
I've made a couple lap sized quilts, but I find that size awkward to utilize (but perfect for toddler beds!). I tend to also "go big" and currently have two king size and one oversized twin on my WIP list.
I usually make wall hangings, so make them to fit where they are to hang, but I recently finished two queen size quilts and then made a little 24" x 30" hanging to keep in practice.

my default quilt size is somewhere between a crib and a lap quilt, i usually call it a "child's couch quilt"!

Most of my quilts are twin size for some reason.
I love the lap size quilts, you can never have too many of them! Although my newest project is a pinwheel pattern queen size for my bed...finally one for me! Thanks for the contest!

As I age I am noticing that making the bigger quilts is harder on the neck and shoulders so, I seem to be making more lap size or twin. I did enjoy making the baby quilt which was my first project.
I too, am more apt to make lap size quilts however, I would really like to make one to fit my queen size bed.

I truly have no default. Ive done dollies, kings, babies etc. Now, my FAVE is a weird size. Bigger than a lap & shorter than a twin. It fits a giant 7 year old boy just perfect :)
