Welcome to week 12 of finish it up Friday!
I started this quilt for a friend shortly before Christmas and finished it on the 31st of December, so it's been done for awhile. Last night I gave it to a sweet friend as a belated birthday gift (she LOVED it!), so I can finally blog about it!
I started with a simple patchwork center, made mainly from 30's prints (
Hope Chest fabrics from Connecting Threads and other stash) and then added a wide white border, which I scalloped. It was my first time ever scalloping edges and I love the look! The process wasn't too bad, either. I started by watching
this tutorial. I didn't want to order their special gadget for scalloping, so I used a plate and a water soluable marker and pins. A little marking and remarking the curves before cutting, and I was good to go. The results ended up pretty dandy! The edges are bound with bias binding. It's roughly a twin size, but I made it so it could also double as a table topper for her dining room table. Or it can be used as a lap quilt, too. Gotta love having so many options!

Love the fabrics you used so much that I just got onto the Connecting Threads website and ordered some! They are 50% now, if you want to re-stock. And I love the quilt - scalloped edges are on my "bucket list" :)

That is adorable! I must have watched that same tutorial ten times while preparing to scallop a doll quilt, but my bowl scallops didn't turn out nearly as nice as your plat scallops. Love it!

This is a great quilt! It would work out very nicely for all those charm packs we all fall in love with. The scalloped border is perfect for this quilt.

!! Oh !! I have nearly the same quilt in my UFO pile! But mine has wee fairies in it...I love love the scalloped edge. I need to think outside the proverbial box sometimes, that was perfect!

It looks great! Good for you trying out the scallop edges! Me, well, I am just not ready for that yet, but I love the look of them. I am so glad that wonderful people like you share yours with me. It is slowly building up my courage to finally try.
I think the cute little fingers at the top just add the finishing touch to the picture. Maybe your friend would like a copy of the photo. This way she would be able to show more people the quilt you made her and also have is as a date marker for the quilt because of the size of the fingers of your kids.

I love the 1930's prints, and the scallop edge really makes this quilt look great! I haven't tried a scallop edge but I do have a scallop edge Creative Grids Ruler! I hope to scallop the edge of a queen size quilt I made last year!
