This is my entry for the fuddy is not duddy challenge. The guidelines were to use brown, green and burgundy and add only one additional color to make modern looking mini quilt. Of course I chose to add white! What a shocker, I know. :) I had a few different ideas when I started cutting my fabric, but in the end I went with wonky crosses. The are so fun to make! I still debate about whether I should have added more white sashing in or not, but then again I like the blocks all smashed together. The crosses are machine quilted and then I added some hand quilting in all the white squares. I love what the hand quilting added to the quilt-it really helped finish it off. It measures 15" x 14.5".
This challenge was right up my alley...given my history with wanting to rescue fabric and all. I can safely say that I am not about to use these colors all the time, but I think that they CAN look pretty good. It's all about what you add to it. Thanks for the fun challenge, Cheryl! If you are interested, you can see the other challenge quilts here.
Happy Monday to you!

Your mission to rescue fabric....cute!
It is interesting how scraps from one project can take on a whole new life when paired with other prints and patterns in a whole new design.
I'm the opposite. I'm a neat nick so I throw away scraps. I know. I just hurt you. Pick up your jaw and get on with your day. :-)
Love your project.
i love it, and i accually really like the colours too!
Very up to date! What a great way to show off the fabric!
Super cute!
I like it without the sashing, too -- it allows you to appreciate the wonkiness all the more! Great job and a fun challenge! :)
I think the challenge was very appropriate for fall : ) I have crosses on my to do list.....
You succeeded. Your quilt is adorable. Hugs
I love this...Wonky cross quilts are quickly becoming some of my favorites!
It is adorable! I like the subtle changes of brown and the white makes it crisp and cute :)
Love your interpretation of this challenge! This is such a fun little quilt. I like the amount of white you used here. And I like that each cross block is different size, making it kinda wonky.
you make any color look good.
i don't know how to quilt but i still like coming to your blog!
Love the wonky crosses and the hand quilting gives it a great texture. Great job with the challenge!
One of my thoughts for the Two Color was wonky crosses. Love you little quilt. Do you think I would get enough variety in crosses to make a two color quilt interesting?
Such a clever design for rescued fabric: to me it looks like a sort of reworking of the Red Cross logo. AmandaJean to the rescue, with her fabric ambulance and endless compassion to the weak and wounded fabric. Simply perfect! Juliet
I must say that adding white to the borders and sashing makes everything look bright and clean. i like your choice!
Know what I saw? Cute wall decor for a boys room. It can be so hard to quilt for boys, or to make stuff for walls, especially if you don't want to go with Disney or sports! But your mini would be darling in a boys room! Or made bigger for a blanket or quilt.
What a great little quilt!
I did a post last night and for some reason it didn't take. Oh well, the life of the internet.
I had a question, do you use your walking foot for quilting? I also said I was reading your blog from now to the beginning. I am down to July 09. Then decided to look at your side bar and saw the tut on free motion quilting. So it is the darning foot you use. I have a walking foot but no darning foot, darnit Lol.
I have been quilting for over 20 years now and am enjoying your blog. Always wanting to learn new ways and things.
I have a blog CreationsbyLSM if you care to look. Haven't been blogging in awhile.
So, what can I use my walking foot for?
Thanks
OK So now I am down to Sept 08. I have to tell you that your blog is going to be one of my favorite. It will probably be second on my favorite list. First goes to Pat of Pattilou's. She is a quilting friend I met online and finally got a chance to meet her face to face. Pat does 95% of her quilting for charity. She is one fantastic lady.
When I first started I went by some simple patterns, mostly cause I was so new to quilting. Then I broadened out and started to modify the patterns. Found that I liked the challenge more. Then Pat ( who sent me several boxes of scraps, and three other ladies also sent me several boxes of scraps ) got me started on strings and crumbs. All my quilting material is in storage in Florida. Hope to get it early next year. Then I found a little quilt store here locally and discovered the Moda fabric. Love it. So of course I had to start getting some as my money would allow. I found Bonnies site and that helped again.
So back to the original story line. I have tons of quilting blogs that I look at and keep linking to more and more. That is how I got to you. From KC's blog to here.
I have really enjoyed what you are doing. It has given me so many idea's. And it has so much helpful info too.
Just to let you know Your stash is small compared to some out there in blogland. So don't worry about it. Go get some more so you can catch up. LOLOL When I think of how much I have in storage and the fact that I am 64 years old, I wonder if I can ever use it up in my lifetime. Plus what I have collected here already. Makes my head hurt.
I know this is sort of a long posting but I just had to tell you how much I am enjoying your blog. Am going to read all the way to the beginning, in between working on a new quilt. Well, several that are a work in progress.
That is very cute!! Love the wonkyness.;-)
Great design!Love your handstitching and the spotty fabric in the middle.
Yup, no duddy in that little quilt at all!
The hand quilting gives this little gem great personality!
Brooke's comment just made me laugh. And it looks to me like what can made nearly anything look more modern. This is a very cute quilt. I still have not made a wonky-ish block but I see this little gem and realize I don't have to commit to a king-sized quilt, right?
I love the hand quilting. It adds such charm.
The hand quilting is my favorite part. Happy sewing friend!
