36 patch quilt along, week 4

Hello there, and welcome to week 4 of the quilt along! I hope you are still plugging away at your blocks.

I managed to make my 6 new blocks this week.
I also changed the two large polka dot blocks out of my pink thrifty block (see last week's post) and used the same type of fabric as the rest of the block. (on the bottom left.) It'll blend in better now, but it's still thrifty!
And here are all 21 blocks I have done. I'm liking it more and more! Only 15 blocks to go. I think I'm going to add in a few more yellows/golds next, then more reds. Then, who knows? I still have plenty of fabrics to choose from! :)
So, how are you doing on your blocks?

Happy Monday to you! and Happy August, too!

I finally started mine TODAY! I have 5 done, and my goal is to do 20 by Wednesday. We shall see...I've been following your progress and it's inspiring; I just procrastinated about actually getting to mine until I really needed to do it. This quilt is going to a very special friend of mine who just found out she has cancer. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

Love all your blocks. :)

I'm a little late to the party, but I'm going to join in if that's ok! I went out and purchased fabric this weekend (I have no 'stash' yet to choose from) and cut it all into strips and started making my blocks...hoping to catch up by next week. ;)

Thanks AJ for this fabulous QAL!

The more I see this quilt, the better I like it. And you know I don't need another project. But it sure is pretty. It sure is. I'm resisting, but it sure is pretty......

Looking really GOOD Amanda Jean!

Wow! You are making lots of progress! I like the change you made on the pink dots block. I have 10 blocks done and about 10 sets ready to cut. I'm pretty pleased with them so far and better yet, I am discovering how nice it is to cut into the fabric that I had been "saving" for who knows what?!

PS. My word verification is dents. That's mighty appropriate since we are all making dents in our stash. :-)

I'm sorry to say I've only completed three blocks, but I HAVE been ill and now we're on vacation at the coast...so maybe that's not TOO bad ;)

Fabulous! Like I said on flickr, you've got an eye for color and what goes. I've got 7 of my 9 done. Yeah, I'm doing a weenie quilt. haha. But hopefully it'll pack a lot of punch. :)

Hi! Your blocks look great! I am holding steady this week with 18 blocks completed (none for this week), but I am hoping to get back in the swing of things this week!

Helloo! It's only Monday and you have 6 blocks done already this week. Oh you are inspiring. Love your blocks. I am on block 4, slowly, I'll get there. Thanks for the great Quilt along.

cant believe you changed the block with the large dots :)

I have 6 done, but am already thinking about a pastel one, and black & white fabrics.

love yours...cant wait to see what you have in store for us.

Love all the colors in your quilt! Thanks for sharing. As for my quilt, I only have two blocks completed, but I am proud of them! This is my first quilt in 6 years (yikes)!

I am having a great time doing these, as I have mentioned before. I am thinking about sashing between them, though. I know that was not at ALL your intent, but I guess I'm just feeling it. I love these blocks so much, and the ones I've made so far are so different, that I feel the need to keep some space between them. In any case, I'm gonna keep making them, and not make any decisions about it yet.
Thanks for the fun!!
Best,
Susan

Yours is looking very good... mine....not even started. I have zero confidence when choosing which fabrics to put together. UGH! I might just end up watching - again! Then again, with all that thread awaiting me, maybe I will jump in and just hope for the best!

I've cut fabric with yellow, blues and oranges for an upcoming baby and will be making 16 blocks. The contrast will be white as I happen to have over 4 yards in my stash and the Mother to be wanted orange as her focus color. Can't wait to see it finished as the block is just really easy to put together. Thanks Amanda Jean for a great QAL that is just what I was looking for to use to make another baby quilt

I'm loving the look of the quilt more and more every time I see it. I, myself, have too many WIPs to even attempt another one right now. Two of those being larger quilts, two being baby quilts, and miscellaneous other sewing projects I find myself being talked into by my sister. I still haven't learned how to tell her no. Someday, I hope I'll have the chance to make this quilt. Seems to be fun, whimsical...and a stash buster!

I have to post as anonymous, because I'm not sure I should own up to this...
I read your blog for at least 6 hours of my 8 hour shift at work! Now, I am allowed to do other things, if all the work is done/people don't need help. But, ahem, 6 hours is probably excessive. I loved every minute of it, feel like I learned a lot, am inspired and it helped the time just fly by. Thanks!

Amanda Jean,

I love your quilt blocks. I just can't find time to work out what I want to use. I'm torn about colours, trying to finish a quilt for a friend, making birthday presents and all the other crazy stuff that goes on in life. I WILL catch up, I promise!

I have 17 blocks done, and I love them. I cut on the with of the fabric, and make 4patches and tiny bow ties as leaders and enders, and almost no scrap left, I's so satisfied!!!

By the way, I write about you on my blog, pop over and see....

Oh dear. I'm way behind. I just got all mine cut out this past weekend. But they are going to be really nice once I get them all sewn together!

Amanda Jean, I love how your quilt is progressing. All those colors and itty bitty squares have such a great scrappy appeal!

I love what you are doing. Wish I had started along with you. It is going to be a fantastic quilt. Hugs

Lookin' good!

I have 17 blocks done and 6 cut to sew out of the 30 needed. This will be the 9th quilt I've made in the year that I've been quilting and the largest (my quilts so far are kid-sized).

Deb said...

Your blocks look wonderful! I haven't even started yet, but want to, so I better get with it!

Patty said...

Wow, the quilt is really looking wonderful.

I like how you stitched fabric together in order to replace the two large dot blocks on the pink square. I have had to do this more than once in the past and it always makes me smile when I see others doing it too.

Looking good. I have 8 blocks done and many more strips cut for blocks. I must thank you again for this great idea. I am finding and using fabrics I haven't seen in 10 years or more and am finally cutting into some that I loved, but was saving for Lord knows what. I am really busting some stash that needed busting. Also your tip about using shorter stitches is really helping my blocks to line up nicely....for a change.

It is looking so great. I am enjoying watching your progress! Hope all is well. Can't wait to start your bee block!

Cristina said...

I'm glad you change those 2 big polka. It's better now. I hv made 12 so far must work harder to catch you and you know I sew all the 6 strips alternating colors of course and then cut it and sew. It's really fast that way.

yours is so colorful and cheerful! I love it! I'm really having fun doing this and can't wait to get to work on mine tomorrow. My original plan was to do the square lap, but I'm tempted to do the queen because I'm just loving how it's turning out!

12 done, working on 12 more right now. trying to push through before teaching starts! i'd love to have it sandwiched in 2 weeks! hard to do with two little girls running around and requiring my constant attention...really enjoying this quilt along! i think i may use the leftovers for some kind of patchwork on the backing...

Wow! you have some serious talent in making quilts. My grandmother has made one for me before she passed away. When I sleep with it, I can feel her hard work and warmth.

Hi, I'm not actually working on this quilt-along, but I am finishing up a quilt based on your movin' on up pattern. And I thought you'd like to see how it is turning out.

Hey! I knew you would change the dots! It is something that would drive me nuts too! And I love that you were so thrifty with the little blocks! You are my inspiration! You do such lovely work! Thanks for making me smile! You rock! I am not making this quilt (although I DO love the pattern) but I did just finish a baby quilt for my soon to be great neice! I did Yellow Brick Road without the borders in a cutie pie fairy fabric!

Oh, I love your quilt blocks. They are sensational! You can certainly see that yours are far more thought out than mine, but I am a fairly new quilter and I am still experimenting with color combos and so on. But if you are interested, here is my progress so far.

i'm up to ten done, and strips cut for several more. perhaps i'll be allowed some sewing time this weekend, but not likely until i finish my class up!

Andrea said...

I love your blocks! I have 36 done as of this moment. I was so excited thinking I was done that I laid them out on the floor and now I wonder if I should do more...which is insanity, really! I cut all the strips out the first week while I was on vacation and had free time. This is the first quilt along I've done and I've been somewhat obsessed about getting the blocks done...

Anonymous said...

Your 36-patches look great!

I'm normally not one to be tempted by quilt-alongs, since I have way too many quilts in the queue as it is. And I wasn't seriously thinking about jumping in on this one, either, until I caught your comment about 36 patches/36 blocks/36 years. Well, with my 36th birthday less than a month away, I was a goner. So I'm making it as a birthday gift to myself, and I'm throwing in fabrics and colors I love with wild abandon and complete disregard for what 'ought' to go together. I've blown through the first 18 blocks and hope to tackle a few more today.

The real proof that I was meant to make this quilt? There's a print in my stash that I was saving for something special, and it will be big enough for the back of this with literally not one inch left over. Serendipity!

Thanks for the fun project idea!
