no time to quilt today

It's time to celebrate! My little girl-my baby-turns 5 today. I spent the whole week feeling melancholy, as I do any time my kids turn a year older. But now that the day is here, I'm ok. She's so excited, it's contagious. I just heard her singing in her room, "It's my birthdaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!" It's good to be 5!!! My hubby is off today and we are going to take her out for a day of fun. It's going to be a good, good day.

Normally, I have gotten away from birthday posts, but I read this blog post and some of the comments yesterday. (Don't click on through unless you have lots of time.) Boy, has it go me thinking! It makes me want to be a more honest blogger. Not that I've been a dishonest blogger, not at all. But it makes me want to be more real here. More well rounded. But more on that later...I've got some celebrating to do!

Happy Friday to you!

You're not kidding about that post being a rabbit hole! I'm in the midst of it now, and it has already made me start thinking more about my blog too! Including how I need to comment more. So, here I am. Happy birthday to your daughter!

Happy birthday to the 5 year old! What a great day to celebrate! Have fun today.

Thanks for sharing that post about being honest in our blogs. I agreed with many of her points, which made me want to come up with a list of my own unpopular opinions, just for fun!

Five is such a big birthday! My sweet girl is five and sometimes it's hard not to be sad about the time passing but I'm usually able to think about all of the wonderful adventures she has ahead of her at THIS age and enjoy watching her grow.

Relish every moment of today with her. So wonderful that your husband gets to be a big part of the day!

Hi! I read that post yesterday and it made me think also. But, I am such a newbie, I'm not sure if my blog has even had a chance to be real or unreal. However, I have always found you to be fun and real...I enjoy reading what you've been up too...and your family!!

So sweet! I had a hard time when my little one turned 6 'cause I couldn't count her age on just one hand anymore ...

I read that blog last week when it was posted though I agreed with some of the points overall the negativity really bummed me out. There was so much whining in the comments, if you don't line a line fabric, don't buy it. I was happy that I didn't read any "I hate" people who just copy what I do, that's why I read blogs for the ideas I am unable to come up with on my own.

Yay for her birthday. Hope the card I sent arrives today.

My baby turned 5yo in December. She still lets me tote her around under my arm (with her long skinny legs sticking out and a HUGE smile across her face), but I won't be able to do that for long. It sure flew by.

Happy Birthday to your daughter, hope you all had a great day enjoying your time together. I started reading the blog you referenced, and you're right, life's too short to not be YOU. My blog is my daily quilt diary and my accountability to ME. If I get followers, great, but that's not why I'm blogging.

AmandaJean, I am honored that you shared my post with your readers. I enjoy following your blog and so value the online sewing community. I hope that in the end the discussion that somehow began will be beneficial to that community.

Sincerely,

She is precious!
I feel exactly the same as you about her growing up.
I had 2 boys and then a girl, and my baby girl is getting married this summer! It all goes so fast!
p.s. I got the Art Quilt Collection yesterday. It is fantastic!

Happy birthday to your "baby" girl! When I saw her photo pop up, I thought, "this can't be Amanda Jean's daughter... she's not this big yet." She's grown quickly, and I understand the melancholy that sets in before a birthday. But I hope the celebrations were fun. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. And blog what you want to blog - I think everyone finds honesty refreshing. I may be inspired by your link myself...
