tour Ireland blog hop

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

To be honest with you, this isn't a day that I normally do a ton of celebrating, but I'm not opposed to it. :) Pat Sloan is doing a blog hop to feature her Tour Ireland book, and I'm happy to be joining in the fun. Tour Ireland is a book that documents Pat's trip to Ireland with a group of quilters. There are lots of gorgeous photos of Ireland included. (I want to go!) It's like a scrapbook and a pattern book rolled into one. It has some great patterns that I would love to make, scrappy style, of course.
This one is called Sheep's Feet. I think it's so clever. It's made from snowball blocks that alternate lights and darks. I don't think I've ever seen that before, and it makes the quilt quite interesting.
I just had to start one right away. I can already tell that I'm gonna love it.
I do love an Irish Chain quilt, and this version is great. I love the gradient color and the zig zag border. Such a nice touch. I'm still trying to figure out how to translate this one into a scrappy version, but I'm sure I'll find a way. :)
Pat is offering her book at 25% off the regular price through the end of March. You can buy it here.
Or...you could stop at any of the places on the blog hop and try to win a copy for yourself!

Of course, you could leave me a comment here, too. In your comment I'd love to know if/how you celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I'll be picking two winners from this post that will each recieve a book compliments of Pat and Leisure Arts. I'll pick the winners on Saturday. Hope you have a GREAT day!

Leaving the office tonight my dad, who is also a client of mine and in an office below mine, wanted to go for a drink....no one else would take him up on it, so I told him rather than the over run pub/bars downtown we would hit one on the way home to my house where he leaves his car....he kept dozing off as usual so I woke him at each pub on the way...he finally conceded we didn't really need to stop for a drink....no beer tonight....

Amanda Jean,
I am a kindergarten teacher so we have a fun day playing I spy and having the leprechaun hid his shamrock. Of course we all dress in green- some of my colleagues made green apple juice and shamrock cookies for her students. Last we have to have a pot of gold too( a little bit of chocolate is good fun too.
Thanks for the opportunity to win such a nice book.
Warmest regards,
Anna

I just make sure to wear something green. It's not something I do anything special for except for that... if I'm not wearing green I feel weird all day! I would love to win that book - my great grandfather was from Ireland, and my Grandfather went to kiss the blarney stone (gross!) I would love to show the book to him and of course make some of the beautiful quilts!

I don't really celebrate St Patricks Day. Would love to win
Pat's book. Thanks for the giveaway.

All day today, I've been listening to Irish singer, Daniel O'Donnell.

I really don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but wore green today without even planning to! I'm actually Dutch, so I should be wearing wooden shoes!

Jocelyn said...

Wow this looks like such a fabulous book. No special traditions here. Thanks for offering a copy to give away :-)

Dara said...

We really don't have very many traditions around this holiday- maybe we could start! I do still need to wear a little green though- don't want to get pinched!

I am so terrible I forgot that it was St. Paddy's Day until we went to the store. My poor children were greenless. Stacy

We all wear green, eat corned beef, drink Guiness (not the wee ones!) and sing and dance around the house to Irish music...favorites being Cockles and Mussels, Black Velvet Band and McNamara's Band to name a few! I love being married to an Irishman - they know how to have fun!

I have my green on. I'm Irish and I'm lucky enough to be planning a trip there this summer. I had been thinkin' that I wanted to add to my stash with Irish fabric....well Pat's book is absolutely a must have. I really like the snowball and the Irish Chain. I'm going to make both. I'm hopin' I'm lucky, too. Thanks!!!

Of course, one must wear something green (or risk being tickled by my kids) and one must eat something green (today it was green pancakes, which my toddler looked askance at, but quickly scarfed down once I coated them with peanut butter)!

The only thing green I did today was pull fresh weeds from the garden.
The book looks fun!

I kind of failed as a mother this year and didn't do anything too crazy. I did however make a green dessert! That's about the extent of our St. Patrick's Day celebrations around here! ;)

When I read that you don't really celebrate St. Patrick's day I was a little thrown. You see it's a very special day to me. I met my DH 23 years ago while out socializing with some friends. I thought it was pretty awesome that I should hit it off with him, and thought, what if we stayed together? It would always be such a great reminder of the day we met...and it has. We celebrate our meeting anniversary every year, usually by some small gifts (this year I made him new placemats-yes it's a gift that keeps on giving), and I got some See's chocolate shamrocks. We always go out for dinner as well. Sometimes dinner is Irish, sometimes it's not, but whatever we do, we do together, and so St. Patrick's will always hold a very dear place in my heart, definitely worthy of a celebration! Oh, and winning Pat's book would make it all the more special this year! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

I came home from work to a house smelling of corned beef and veggies - yum! My son was experimenting on me again with a new recipe he saw on a cooking show. Happy to be a guinea pig! I would love to go to Ireland someday, but in the mean time I'd love to win this book!

I'm part Scottish and now married to a Brit, so we don't really celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I do wear green though. :)

I'm like many other commentors here; I don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but certainly enjoy the activities around me. It's fun to watch all the 'green-ness' around me!

Like you, I think the Irish Chain quilt, with its unique border setting, is great.

We have corn beef and cabbage and everyone wears something green. Looks like a great book.

Always celebrate St. Patrick's Day by wearing green and eating corn beef & cabbage & Irish soda bread. One of my favorite holidays.

Judy M said...

No major celebrating here ... but we do enjoy wearing green! From the pics and quilts, this is definitely a book that will bypass my obviously unrealistic (and already broken) not-buying-any-books-this-year resolution! (What was I thinking?!?) Of course, if I win it, it's not buying it, right? :)

My grandparents were from Ireland and I remember the stories my Grandma would tel e about leprechauns and I loved them. I spent the day today with my grandkids making a leprechaun house telling stories and making cupcakes for their Daddy. Great Day!!!

I don't really celebrate St. Patrick's day although I do wear green. My aunt "celebrates" by watching/ordering from QVC who sells lots of things from Ireland on St. Patrick's day. She's been to Ireland twice and loves it. This book would give me lots of great gift ideas for her.

my brother-in-law was born on St Patrick's day, so it's a double celebration here.....

We don't celebrate. But when the kids start school I'm sure we will have to dress in green at least! I have been to Ireland once and it was gorgeous! I hope to go back one day. This is a must-have book! Thanks for sharing!

I have been asking how to make one - your pictures and explanation finally showed me how. Love it- Thank you!

We celebrate by wearing something green. Growing up with two evil brothers it has been pounded into my head that you must wear green--or get attacked by the evil siblings.

For St. Patrick's day, I bake homemade Irish soda bread and roast lamb (I don't care for corned beef). I read a story about St. Patrick with my kiddos, and evey year we watch Veggietales: Sumo of the Opera. I know, it doesn't sound Irish, but at the begining of the film they do a short story about St. Patrick that is so funny, we laugh no matter how many times we have seen it.

Katherine said...

Normally I would celebrate with a pint of Guiness, but not this year since I just had a baby. We ate shepherd's pie and dressed the new baby in a shamrock romper!

This year I decked my little girl in green (since my maternity wardrobe is lacking this beautiful color), made green shortbread, and invited my St.-Patty's-Day-loving Irish Mother-in-law over for a proper British tea party. And she brought scones with clotted cream. So it was kind of Great Britain Day here. ;)

Dress in green so you don't get pinched. Eat cornbeef and cabbage and best of all make sure you set the a trap on March 16 before you go to bed. This is to catch the leprechaun, who leaves little goodies behind for the kiddos in there shoes.

And of course at the party we eat corned beef and cabbage and some yummy soda bread!
