Well, here it is, the end of March already. Can you believe it? That means I have another stash pattern to share today. I'm calling it Easy as Pie. I love the vintage vibe it has.
It measures 58" x 70".
This was my initial fabric pull. I started with about 18 different fabrics, and edited a few out as I went (due to color), and added in a few more. So I would guess there are about 20+ different fabrics in all.
Materials needed:
3 1/4 yards total of various fabrics for the rectangles
1/2 yard for binding
3 1/2 yards backing fabric
60'' x 72'' batting or larger
Cutting:
cut 110 rectangles 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" from various fabrics
cut 10 rectangles 3" x 7 1/2" from various fabrics (these will be referred to as half rectangles)
Assembly:
There are two approaches to the assembly.
The first way is to layout all the blocks at once, making sure that each block is in a specific spot.
The second way is to randomly sew rectangles together to make the rows. Once all the rows are sewn together, they are arranged. This is a much more random approach, but somehow it always seems to work out in the end-especially if you have a large variety of fabrics.
Either way, the rows will be constructed the same way.
Sew 11 rectangles together, side by side. You will be sewing the 7 1/2" sides together, so the rectangles will be standing on end. Add a half rectangle to each row. Make 10 rows.
In every other row, the half rectangle will be the starting block.
In the alternating rows, the half rectangle will be the ending block.
Sew all 10 rows together, making sure to press the seams well. Quilt, baste and bind as desired.
If you use this pattern to decrease your stash, I'd love to see it!

Looks fantastic. Love the colours.
Your quilt is really pretty. My husband asked me this morning what I was sewing and I said another quilt. I told him that I was going to use up my stash before buying anything new and something I want is coming out in May.
I love it!! So easy and so pretty. Great fabric choices.
Love the colors. I love quick, easy projects.
Love your Quilt. will definately use some of my stash to make one of these.
Thank you for the instructions.
I'll have to add this to my "To Do Someday" list.
Great stash buster! Love the look!
When I get my projects under control, I'll begin cutting scraps for this quilt. Looks simple and fun to do!
Thank you!
Karen
Thanks for sharing. I'm new to quilting and I have gone to your blog a few (thousand!) times for help! By the way, I LOVE the fabric in the quilt with the food and beverage calories. What is it?!?!
Simple and very effective...my kind of quilt!
Great color palet...You do exceptional work!
So which way did you do the assembly--totally random or by laying out each block? I'm guessing the former but I'm curious.
I ALWAYS love your color combinations!
What a nice way to decrease your fabric stash! Thanks for taking the time to share with us the pattern for recreating the quilt.
This may be a really dumb question... but how do you cut WOF strips over 6" wide? I have a 6" by 24" ruler but whenever I have to cut wider than 6" it never comes out straight. Is there a long ruler out there that is wider than 6"?
(I realize that you probably cut your strips 5.5" wide and trimmed at 7.5 intervals.) I was just wondering if you had some magic trick...
It is wonderful! Love the colors.
Love your color combo! :D
Looks nice! Just an idea, could you start a flicker group where people could post their quilts for your monthly de-stash patterns? Would be fun to see what everyone comes up with!
This is a great stash buster! Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for sharing! Lovely as usual. I am going to have to use this pattern to de-stash a bit.
I love your blog..PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check out my blog. I did the Topsy Turvey Quilt with a twist and I posted pics of it. I am soo proud of it and I thank you because of it!!!

That IS easy as pie! As always, your colors look great too!
I love the colors - they remind me of a summer picnic.
suz_claas,
the food fabric is by Anna Griffin. It's a few years old now, so I doubt you would be able to find it very easily. sorry to say!

What a great stash buster....fun and funky!
I really like it...it turned out lovely! Love scrap quilts...
I have a stack of 30's fabric that I have been trying to decide what to do with it- this will be perfect! Thanks for the great directions!
I haven't made a lot of pies, so this looks easier than pie! Love it. I especially love that offset look so I don't have to worry about lining up the seams of each row. Cool color combo too.
I have a lot of stash that could go into one of these and look good! Thanks for the directions!
I love what you have done with this stash pile. Would this be ok for someone who is a bit OCD to do or will the need to be perfect drive them crazy? I would love to use up my stash because I really want to buy more fabric.
What great fabrics! Thanks for sharing your stash reducing project! I need something to reduce the heap that is growing!
Cheers,
Carolyn
Thank you for sharing this! I really like it.
It's so pretty! I love the color combination.
I recently made a similar top using 6" squares cut from vintage sheets. I can't decide how to quilt it. How are you going to quilt your lovely quilt?
These easy quilts you have been posting are great! You should have just put them into a book! How much fun would that be? = 0
Thank you for sharing!!! I love the colour of your fabrics!!
Thanks!
Adding this one to the list! Thank you so much!!! I need a stash buster :o)
Okie doke! This is the one I am cutting out! :o) Thanks so much!!
Have a nice weekend.
Sincerely, Trish
This looks great. I must go pull some stash fabric and make this cute quilt.

Love this one & the colors! Adding it to my list to do some day :)

Looks like a quilt that should come visit my house when it is completed. :)
HAPPY, PRETTY quilt! Great stash buster idea. Nice size. Thank you for sharing.
I saw this on Friday, and I made a top the same day. It was very easy. I'm blogging about it next week (delayed posting). I was looking for a quick pattern to make for my oldest daughter's friend, and this was perfect. Thanks for your help from far away (and previously unbeknownst to you). :)
Maybe I could make one this weekend! I was looking at my stash this morning.
I love it! It does have a vintage feel to it which I'm really liking right now. This would be a great weekend project!
Jennifer :)
What a beautiful choice of fabrics!! i love this Idea! It looks like it goes together nicely! Have to put on my try next list!! Thank you for the great ideas!!
the fabrics on your quilt are fantastic! i hear that you'll be at the CO retreat with Penny. i'm coming from WI, too :) it will be fun to meet you and sew with you.
in the meantime, can you tell me more about that calories count/food fabric? i adore it.
thanks!
melinda
You did such a great job with the color selection! I'm into blue and red together right now. It's such a nice Springy look.
It so pretty! Easy as pie. Love the name.
I love when designs are so beautiful but simple. These types are so satisfying for me becuase they work up so quickly. The fabrics are beautiful too!
I love this. (Esp because those are the colors/fabrics that scream my name.) This makes me want to pull out fabric and make a quilt tonight. I could just let the family forage for their own food. I won't but it sounds so tempting.
You always inspire me. Thanks for the effort you take to do that.
just love it!!!
Thank you so much for sharing the pattern with us for FREE! You've made my day. ;)
I've never made a quilt before, and I would love to make one for my sons twin bed, is this a simple enough pattern for my first quilt?
Once I collect enough fabric I will try one of these. Simple but pretty. Thanks for sharing the pattern!
I recently finished making an Easy as Pie quilt and blogged about it:: http://victoryandpeace.blogspot.com/2011/07/mexico-quilts.html
Thanks so much for the tutorial!
I just finished my quilt based on your tutorial! I love it! I mentioned you and your blog on several posts over the course of the quilt's creation. :) Thanks again for such a lovely and easy quilt-y idea.

I used this pattern and love it! Here's a link to my post of the finished quilt: http://mamasaidsew.blogspot.com/2011/08/finished-easy-as-pie-quilt.html
Thanks for the great tutorial Amanda!
I am new quilter, and have been looking for a quilt to make for my queen size bed. After finding this on pinterest, I fell in love! But, being so new, I am unsure if this is big enough for a queen. Can you help?
The instructions and pictures to your quilts are just wonderful....love your work
Bingo! That's just what I want. TBH I'm not really good at matching seams, and in this one that's not necessary. I'm all over it! I promised a friend a scrappy quilt from a bag of furnishing/curtain fabric bits, looks like this is going to be the one! You just saved my reason--no matching here!
I am a paper crafter but have been wanting to start quilting as my grandmother was an amazing quilter when she was alive......while searching the internet for blogs I happened upon yours...you are very gifted....I believe I'm going to try my had at this type a blog first....can't wait to begin!!! Thank you for sharing your talent!!
