Even though there are 101 other things I need to be doing today, I played.
I sewed a bunch of strings together and cut them down to 12.5" x 4.5".
They multiply rather quickly.
This is one possibility for a layout....inspired by the Band Together quilt (scroll down) by Fun Quilts.
I'll definitely need to make some more blocks before I decide for sure. :)
Happy Monday to you!
This is so fun! I started my scrapbusters early too! couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteI do need that group!
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric strips.
ReplyDeleteA great flickr group indeed! I hope to get started with a scrapbuster quilt somewhere after Christmas!
It is going to be a beauty! Don't you just love Fun Quilts!!
ReplyDeleteHow do you get such great scraps??? That looks like it would be my "good stuff" LOL!! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love fun quilts (and this will surely be one of those) and I also love Fun Quilts. Redundant. You know what I mean, right? and I also need that flickr group, but I need to spend time doing, not just looking. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I really, REALLY like this one for a scrap buster quilt! There are SO MANY possibilities! Can't wait to see what you decide on.
ReplyDeleteI think that would look great with a black background! All of those colors would really pop!
ReplyDeleteIt does look like fun! When I get some time, I might give this a try!
ReplyDeleteI like! :-)
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like fun! I can think of a stack of fabrics in my stash that I would like to cut up and try this with. i really like the layout in the second photo with all the rows of coins lined up right next to each other. So fun to look at, like an I-spy quilt.
ReplyDeleteLookin' good Amanda! Maybe I'll start next week...or not! Leaving for Florida!
ReplyDeleteSo colourful and pretty!! The hardest part I find about quilting is committing to a design that I want to use to use up my fabrics or scraps.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Why don't my scraps look so nice? Oh yes, I remember, because I toss them in a laundry basket and forget them. I need to join this group too!
ReplyDeletevery pretty. I might have to check out the group. :)
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I don't have scraps like that. Maybe I need to sew more...yes, that's it. I need to sew more, and buy extra so that I have scraps!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
Oooh, I've got a box of strips that would work great for this!! Very cool....
ReplyDeleteI am setting my craft girls this challenge as well. Can you tell me how big each piece is I know it is 4.5" wide are they all the same size piece or have you just made it up to the 12.5"
ReplyDeletelllll-UHV!!!
ReplyDeleteI just purchased several twonie (that's two dollars to you non-Canadians *wink*) scrap bags with which to make my inchy hexagons with... there were some yummy big scraps that would look lovely in this quilt!!!
Thanks for sharing!
How fun! and what a great way to use up your scraps!
ReplyDeleteYou're very naughty -- shouldn't you be baking or wrapping or some other Christmas-y activity LOL???
ReplyDeleteOoooh, thanks for sharing that Flickr group, I definitely need some inspiration using up my scraps - my husband keeps complaining about how many there are and why on earth I'm keeping them :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a fabulous idea! You never disappoint!
ReplyDeleteI so need this group! The second layout gets my vote:)
ReplyDeleteThere is something about that second layout that catches my eye just a bit more.
ReplyDeleteI recognize some of that fabric...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! Love the two layouts you have shown.
ReplyDeletesometimes giving in is just the right way to get busy with what i "should" be doing.
ReplyDeleteI just started a stacked coins quilt with my scraps thanks to Jodi from Pleasant Home's scraps-along. I'm with you, though. I don't really have time for that sort of thing. It would be nice to cut back the scrap pile, though. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fun quilt to make. I'll be checking in regularly to see in what direction you're taking it.
ReplyDeleteI like the second layout! :)
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic! What a great idea to use some of those scraps
ReplyDeleteHello! I hope you'll see this comment - couldn't seem to comment on more recent posts.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I linked to your checkbook cover tutorial from '08 and saw the post about your Dad's slogans. How fun is that? I shared with my daughter and she wanted to know what his slogan is for 2011. We thought "Life is heaven in 2011". Not great but we just got started . . . Hope you'll share. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Beth
I absolutely adore your use of scraps - they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFun design with all of the colorful scraps! Very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the scrap quilts. This reminds me I need to put more work into mine. Just a quick question. Where is a good place to get some precut Kona squares? I need some white ones.

ReplyDeleteThey look really good. I like the middle picture the best. I would call it "constrained chaos" :D
ReplyDeleteI am brand new to quilting and can not wait until I have enough scraps to do this ...
ReplyDeleteI am a new to quilting and I can not wait until I have enough scraps to try this. =)
ReplyDeleteI did some scrap busting this weekend and dumped a ton on my guild buddies. Also finally basted a quilt sandwich for a ticker tape quilt...we'll see how long it sits before I get to it.
ReplyDeleteand darn you...I bought that suitcase I saw you had but was delighted to roll my supplies into the Guild meeting.
As some other ladies have mentioned I cannot get over how amazing your scraps look and mine look like .... well crappy scraps! What beautiful work.
