a blue giveaway

Happy November! Every month my family and I play this silly little game. We all try to be the first one to wish someone else a happy month. This morning I was greeted by my 7 year old (before I even got out of bed) with a "Happy November!" Not a bad way to start off the day.

November is my favorite month. I love fall. I love the Thanksgiving holiday. It's cooler so there are plenty of chances to wrap up in a quilt. It's a great time to make more quilts. (Well, it's always a good time to make more quilts, if you ask me.) I think November is good all around!

In honor of the first day of my favorite month, I'm going to give away a quilt kit to one reader. The quilt kit consists of 42 blue, black and grey kona cottons, so you can make your very own blue quilt. Or...you could use the pre-cut rectangles for various other projects if you so desire. Each rectangle is a generous 5.5" x 19.5" so the possibilities are endless! If you would like to win, please leave me a comment letting me know of any silly games you and your family play. If you don't have one, your favorite color would be a good substitute. Happy Monday to you!

Wow! You have a huge following! My favorite color is yellow because it is so happy. :) Blue is a very close second. Our family is way, way to serious to play silly games.

My 2 1/2 year old invents little games for her father and I to play all the time! Her latest one last night was her playing the harmonica with her Dad and I marching behind her using books as drums....makes me smile just thinking about it! We were her marching band!
Thanks for a great giveaway:)

I think it is a great idea to have a family tradition like that. Those are things that kids will treasure and remember forever.

wow! lots of comments. Lately, in our house, its been absolutely hilarious as my kids get out the nerf guns, turn out the lights and run around the house. I just stand back and laugh as they all come to me and beg for assistance. The funny part is that they are all adults acting like they were a bunch of 12 year old boys.

Hands Sew Full said...

Well my favourite colour is blue! As for games with the kids outside of the usual regular games, we play "Opposite Tuesdays" where you have to do the opposite of what ever is said. So since my memory is very weak and early in the morning I can't even guess what day it is the kids get me every Tuesday when I say OK lets eat and they all walk away from their plates! Or let your mind go with any variation of that you like....they get me every time and we've been doing it for years!

It's not a silly game (we play Uno) but we take turns talking about our day at dinner. It's a thing we do that I love!

The concept of this quilt is limitless. I love the simple lines and gradation of color. My favorite color is Orange. Love your blog.

We do a silly thing whenever we get together for a big family dinner. If someone forgets something and goes into the kitchen, everyone else leaves the table and hides until the person returns. Sounds lame, but it is funny because no matter how many times it happens it always surprises the person when they return!
I love Kona and those blues are fab! Thanks for offering the give away!

I love November too! It's my birth month and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

We have lots of silly games we play, one of them is hiding from the dog. Poor thing, sometimes he tries to run forwards and backwards at the same time!

My family likes to come up with all kinds of puns or plays on words. Our favorites are "right arm" and "farm out". :) Love this giveaway!

My children get so excited when the first of the month arrives. They run around trying to do a 'pinch and a punch' for the first day of the month. My two year old girl has already learnt that a 'pinch and a kick' is payback for 'being so quick'. Its very funny as she randomly kicks at the air.
Happy November to you!

Korbi said...

My four year old came up with this game when you see a yellow car you yell "jackpot!" I was just recently in New York without kids :( and every yellow taxi I saw I could not help but think "jackpot!" and then my heart would break a little inside thinking of my babies at home!
PLUS blue and grey are my favorite colors, so I MUST win!!!

funny that you mention this silly game thing, my sister and I were just talking about when we were little we would play wonder woman. Remember she had those wrist cuffs that she could bounce bullets off of? Well we made our own little headband and cuffs using tin foil or pie plates :D and my sister always wondered why I always was such a sweet older sister and let her be wonder woman when we were small, she never thought about it until we were older and realized I was the one throwing the rocks (bullets) and she was the one getting hit LOL... she wasnt a very good wonder woman ROFL! Thanks for the chance to win these lovely fabrics, hope you enjoyed the story as much as we get a kick out of reminiscing about it!

We love I'm thinking of an animal game. You can play it anywhere; in line, in the car, waiting at the doctors. The person thinking of an animal gives one clue and the others take turns asking yes or no questions until the right animal is picked.

We played a game of table manners, or lack of. If you were caught practicing bad manners you lost your fork, then knife, followed by the spoon, salad fork, etc until you were eating your food with your hands tied behind your back. It was great to play with fun house guests.

Hello Amanda,
All my children are grown and gone, don't remember any games we use to play. My favorite month is also November. It actually sometimes gets cooler here in Northern FL. My favorite color is purple. I remember a game sort of that when I was a nurse we all use to play. Every Wednesday all the nurse would be dressed in purple scrubs and the patients would also be dressed in purple(the guys weren't all that cracked up about it). Have a great November. Bonnie

My boyfriend and I play a game with our Chihuahua called "1, 2, 3!"
We all stand at one end of the hallway count to three, on the count of 3 we all run to the other end of the hallway. Somehow our chihuahua knows that we have to say three before she can run.
Most of the time we tell people that we let her win, but she's a fast demon and truthfully she has us beat 90% of the time!

When we play red light, green light, we add other colored lights to the mix. Orange means you take wide steps, yellow means walk slowly, blue means hop, purple means walk backwards, green means run as fast as you can, red means stop, black means dance, brown means twirl, and pink means crawl. So fun! I can never get tired of playing it this way.

Whitney said...

i'm all about adapting other people's silly games - like my boss who introduced me into being the first one to say "rabbit" at the beginning of each month - wish i could remember where that came from :) blue is only my favorite color when my almost two year old says it (too cute) . .other than that it's red!

jennifer said...

How fun! Our silly game happens when we are looking for something specific-- could be our car in a parking lot, a family member in a crowd, or even a lost library book. The first one to find it yells "blitz!" or perhaps a different silly word. This makes the "looking" part more fun for our youngsters :)

Lovely blues! - I have a lot of fun being silly with my family (there's three of us). Just last night, my daughter and I jumped up and down, helped by my husband so we could jump higher. It never fails to make me laugh! (If this does not constitute as silly, I don't think much will.)

Oh, we used to play this game when all the cousins came over for holidays (we were 10 of us)... We used to go into a dark room and one person was left out... THe others would hide themselves inside the dark room... The one outside wud come in and guess who's who and who's where by feeling that person... It was fun... We usually ended in fits of giggles when the person 'feeling' us would 'unknowingly' tickle us... LOL... It was fun...
Cheers
And yeah, thanks for the giveaway...

Recently, we have been playing peek-a-boo with my daughter or you turn your head make a silly face and then look back at her with the silly face, turn your head so she can't see you, and repeat. She thinks that is hilarious. My favorite color is definitely green!

My daughter is only 2 1/2 years old, so our silly family game is chasing each other. As long as we're screaming and running she thinks it's fun!

This is an awesome giveaway! My son and I play a Scare Ya Game - where we startle each other when least expected. To keep it most unexpected we limit the frequency, the last time I got him good was in the summer.... he's due for one soon (he's probably thinking the same - better be on my guard!!)

Heidi said...

at the dinner table - we take turns choosing a letter of the alphabet and then we take turns coming up with words that start with that letter. It's quick.. easy and good for the kiddos.

We like the game Ruckus - I like to play it, even though I'm not very good, so that's the sign of a good game in my book.

Cory said...

We play SlugBug but we don't hit. We've played it when I was little and I started it with my kids, oldest 27 and youngest 13 so we have been playing it for many years. These fabrics are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing with us. Take care and God bless, Cory

Our favorite game is on someone's birthday to be the first one to say "now that you're almost __". It started with my father over 50 years ago and keeps on going.

Alyssa said...

We play the word of the day game. And if you say the word everyone has to yell.

Love your blue quilt! Great giveaway! On the first day of the month, we play who can be the first person to ask and answer, 'what holiday(s) are in this month.' Later in the day, we ask the adults to explain the meaning of those holidays.

Favorite color is green. I have a lot of green fabrics, but very few green quilts to show for it. Funny how that works.

With three small ones in the house, we play the "I'm hungry" "Nice to meet you hungry, I'm Mommy" ALL the time.

:)

KateR said...

My son and I have an "I love you game". We start with "I love you" and the next line would be "I love you more" and the last person would say "impossible". The challenge is to find ways to not say "I love you more" because "Impossible" wins. We have fun finding creative ways to say "I love you."

Nicole Hannah said...

It's hard to choose just one silly game but I think the silliest thing we do is while my husband is in the shower in the morning my daughter and I hide in the bed upside down. Feet on the pillow, and heads at the foot.

It's fun to grab dad from under the covers when he sits down.

And orange for my favourite colour.

so many funny games to choose from.. one of my favorites..

we have a daily contest to see who can get 'jammafied' first. Whoever gets in their pajamas first then runs into the kitchen yelling at the top of your lungs "I WIN!!" is the winner.

when I get he kids how from school, we all race to our rooms to get changed! WE wills sometimes lock the door behind us, trying to slow the other ones down.

It's a silly game, but we love it! And when my oldest son & daughter0in0law come home for the holidays.. well all the more to play with!!

I used to like this family game: a running competition from the door to the car and who got there first. But resently I am not sure that I want to continue playing it, since my boys are now 15, 17 and 19 I am hopelessly left behind. But I would like to win your blue fabric :-)

Andi said...

Oooh, I need about 900 more blue squares for a postage stamp quilt :-)

A silly game my daughter came up with when she was three and learning not to call people names. We'd say something silly like "I call you elbow" and she'd look around the room for something like "I call you chair." This could go on for 15 minutes or more as we ended up in a heap of laughter.

Diane said...

Luv the blue, it's my favourite colour. On road trips, my husband and I find the local radio station and play "name that tune" seeing who can holler out the name of the song first!

luciep said...

Sometimes, my hubby and I have a hard time to fall asleep. So we imitate the various characters of the TV show 24. It makes us laugh pretty bad and we end up falling asleep without knowing :-)

Can't remember silly games...except hogging the bathroom :0)...my turn please get out of the bathroom!!!!

My family played Sardines. Its kind of like Hide and Seek, only 1 person hides and everyone else tries to find them. When you find the "hider" you join them until there is only one person left searching and everyone is packed in the hiding spot like Sardines!

I'm just venturing into the world of quilting and cant wait to try out Kona solids!

Oh, for Heaven's sake, Amanda Jean. You're not going to read this comment -- there are 766 others. We play a silly game where each of the kids chooses a sound that they're going to make. Then they all kneel in a row and put their heads down. Then Dad plays them like a piano -- or a one-man band. When he touches their back, they lift up and make their sound. It's so hilarious! I laugh my head off -- so do the kids and Daddy!

When I was a kid and there wasn't enough ice cream left in the container for everyone to have a regular serving, my dad would tell us to grab a spoon and play the mostest game...whoever ate the fastest got the mostest! Actually, blue is my favorite color, but I haven't made any blue quilts. Go figure!

We do like to play fun games on the Wii, With a house of teen/adult children it is hard to get enough of them home to play silly games.

Quiltin Jenny said...

Oh that blue is delicious!

The silly game we play is to quote movie lines and someone else in the family finishes it. It delights my husband to no end as our teenage sons are familiar with more and more of the Brat Pack movies of the 80s.

My favorite was when we were on our way out one day and he said, "Gimme the keys." And my 13yo son piped up, "You ain't got no license, Lisa!"

My 3 boys always race to see who can be the first to kiss me goodbye when the bus is coming. They wouldn't want any of their friends to see them giving a kiss to their ol' Mom, oh no!!!

Looks like some beautiful fabric - thanks for being so generous!

With three kids under the age of four, we're usually pretty silly, but we've yet to really start playing games. Our favorite thing these days is to put on superhero capes and run around the house yelling superhero things like, "Up, up, and away to save the day!"

My husband and I ( It's just us so far) play a similar game that you spoke of but instead of month it's anniversaries. It's the monthly anniversary of when we started dating, when we got engaged and when we got married. So three times a month, it's a race to see who realizes the date first! The winner gets bragging right for the rest of the month, which can sometimes be torture, lol.
I love these colors and hpw I can win them so I can make an beautiful quilt for our new home! (We have decoreted in all blues and grays:) )

So I am comment number 784!!! WOW! Our silly game is a treasure hunt for Christmas presents, clues wrapped in boxes and a task (singing, hugging etc) before the next clue. My kids wont give it up, and they are over 20 now !!!
Love the blues, but my favourite colour is yellow, red, green, orange.....I guess I just love lots of colour! Hope I win these.

In my family a "silly" game is a rousing game of scrabble, so it would be really helpful to have a quilt to curl up in when they put me to sleep. My favorite color is blue, so this is perfect!

Desi said...

Okay, this is really silly, but the kids and I had fun anyway. We would have to be in the car for this one; but I usually started, with the license plate in front of us, and whatever letters there were on that plate, we would have to make a word out of it; definitely easier as they got older, but challenging and you had think!
What I do for a chance to win! ;)

We play charades. Dad whispers to whoever is up (we have 3 boys and no girls) an animal and the rest of us try to guess it. The kiddos love it and its quite entertaining! The blues look lovely for a boy quilt. Crossing my fingers on this one!

our little thing is that whenever there is the 'last' of something like the last slice of pizza or the last grape, etc, we all say, "THE. LAST. MELON." like from the movie Ice Age. We even had our 2 year old saying it, now we don't even think about it. it's just common phrase here. :)
thanks for the chance! and for the great inspiration!!!!!!!!

Those are great colors. And yes, it's always nice to wrap up in a quilt during this time of year. The games we love to play are superhero games. My son who is 2 1/2 puts on his cape and runs around saying "chase me, mommy" "chase me, daddy" so we run run run and LAUGH as we run around our house...we sure get our exercise!!

We really have a silly game we
play occasionally at Christmas.
After the presents are opened,
someone will throw a bow at
someone else and the bow fight is
on. I save the bows that can't be
used again especially for the next
bow fight.

I love blue so this contest would
be great for me.
