liberty scrap challenge

Annie's scraps arrived in my mailbox several weeks ago. She sent me these lovely liberty tana lawn scraps, and in turn, I will use them to make a mini quilt for her. I have had no previous experience with liberty fabrics...but I'm learning that these fabrics are delicate and amazing. And did I mention pretty? They blew me away.
She included this little card in the package...it's just as cute as can be. Look in the lower left. Those bikes! My absolute favorite fabric of the whole lot.
I finally got to cutting and piecing this week. The quilt top is done...now it needs some hand quilting. Not my forte, but I'm excited to see this mini come to life.
And here's a shot to give you an idea of the scale of the squares...teeny tiny....almost 1.5" finished.

I started making two quilts right off the bat, because I knew it was going to be hard to let this one go.

WOW, those blocks are sooo small! I'm impressed, although not surprised ;-). Great job, lucky you, getting to work with all of those super pretty fabrics!

I just completed a quilt top with 1.5x2" triangles. Painful but pretty in the end. :) Yours is so pretty. Love the white sashing to offset the really cute fabrics!

I love working with Lawns. They are such a soft, fine fabric!! Hard to find in my part of the world though. Enjoy working with them, you have done a beautiful job on the mini:)

I so love the Liberty lawns. i'm lucky enough to live near London, and I always have to go in and admire them whenever I'm passing. And maybe buy a few.... Am currently clearing out and destashing scrap bags on etsy, I hope someone makes something as lovely as your quilt!

I have not had the pleasure of working with Liberty fabrics yet, it looks great! I love the size of the half square triangles with the white sashing....just real pretty!

I'm another lover of Liberty fabrics. They are so special! I got to go to London this summer, so some of the fabrics came home with me! I can't wait to sew them up...

Ooh. My Mom lives in the UK and we have Liberty close by. Maybe I could encourage her to go in. Ooh wouldn't it be nice if they had scrap bags like Moda..........

I admire you so much for giving yourself this challenge! It's hard to challenge ourselves, especially outside our comfort zone, so good luck with your hand quilting endeavor. I love the patchwork you have going so far, so I can see why this would be hard to give up. Such beautiful fabrics! I have never worked with Liberty fabrics before either, so I will be curious to hear more.

So lucky to get Liberty scraps - I crumble when I visit the shop - so expensive - and you got the best, a sniplet of so many different designs - perfect for quilting.

I love cotton lawn. It makes the best summer blouses, loose and lightweight, you hardly feel like you're wearing ANYTHING! I've yet to find any Liberty locally, however, so I'll have to drool over yours!

p.s. I have to say I think the blue and green car print in the first picture is my favorite!

I've never usee Liberty fabrics but they look beautiful and your quilt really does them justice.

Wow! That's quite sweet. Now that I've seen what you've done, I have to do a little more investigation about that fabric. And Moda does scrap bags? Hmm... Reading your blog is like looking up a word in the dictionary and traveling from word to word. Such a lovely way to pass time.

I have some scraps that sure would love to come and live at your house. Provided you could provide some order to their chaotic life, of course... :)

What fantastic fabric scraps. I love what you did with them. Such tiny pieces. You are so good!

I just refound the scraps you sent me and got really excited. Some are already in set sized squares, and a quilt might be forthcoming.

In the first picture that car fabric is so cute!

Liberty's Tana Lawn is the most beautiful cotton fabric ever. I have been hoarding a few pieces for years. Just hate to cut into them. You have given me the courage to start something.
Your little quilt is beautiful.
