flickr groups you may or may not know about

Rene and I had a discussion about flickr groups way back in June. There are so many good flickr groups out there, but sometimes it's hard to find them. I'm going to highlight a few of my favorites here. And hey, it's only taken me 4 months to get around to it! :)

Carin just started a group for the Fair and Square quilt pattern. I finished this quilt top yesterday and it will be sent to MHC soon. They will quilt it, bind it and give it to someone in need. YAY! (One more thing off the WIP list!) They are always up for more quilt (or quilt top) donations if you wish to help. If you've sewn one of these up already, add it to the flickr group! It's so fun to see all the variations of a single pattern.

In my last post I had several people asked if I liked my Juki. I had to laugh, because I thought my deep love for my Juki was common knowledge. :) I wrote more details in my FAQ post about it. I will add this: if my machine died today, I'd replace it with the exact same model. The discussion in the comments made me think I should start a group on flickr about sewing machines, and likes vs. dislikes of your current machine. I did a search and there's already a group for it. Hurrah! It's called Sew me your machine. For those of you in the market for a new machine, it may be something to check out. For those of you who love your machine, can you add your 2 cents to the pool? It's so nice to read reviews of a machine (by real people) before buying. I am only making this plug because I could find next to nothing on-line for Juki machine reviews when I bought mine. It would have been super helpful to have reviews to reference.

Have you seen the scrappy mug rug swap group? Oh-my-goodness! Cuteness overload.

Simply solid quilts. Be prepared for inspiration overload (or total intimidation, which happened to me).

My morning cup is a cute group.

There is a group for Manly Quilts. You all know how hard those are to make. Some great ideas there.

Lots of inspiration for Quilt Backs. This is a personal fav since I'm a huge fan of pieced quilt backs.

There is a zig zag quilt group.

The half square triangle group is amazing!

Are you a moda addict? There is a group for you, too! Mad for moda.

I know I linked to this one before, too, but it's a good one. Modern quilting stitches: Life beyond Stippling.

How about you? Do you flickr? Are there any good groups I should know about? You know, because I need to spend even more time on-line than I already do.

I think as far as swaps go, my favorite I've participated in so far is the Scrappy Pincushion Swap: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1391476@N25/

Also, you have to check out the Fabulous Fabric Stacks group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1529688@N21/

I made it half way through the post, opened 6 new tabs and had to stop reading. I have no idea how I'm going to pack today and look through all these sites. Curse you! hehe but thanks for the amazing information!

I was one of the people who asked about your Juki - thanks for the link to your FAQs! I only found your blog about the time you decided to stop blogging (boy was I heartbroken!) so I haven't been reading you that long. After asking you, I started looking into Juki and have already earmarked the model you use as my "next" sewing machine - when I wear out my Singer! At the rate I'm going, I figure I'll be ready for a new machine in about a year.

And thanks for all the Flickr links - I'm fairly new to Flickr, too, but love looking at all the eye candy!

Hey I got a Juki last year on your advice, I absolutely love it, It's fast, fast the way I like to sew! and I love the cut the thread button on the foot peddle, I use a lot less bobbin thread. I too have a plastic bag full of feet, I'm going to look for your 1/4 seam foot, who knows what the others do. I got it used off of ebay, sews well on thin silk to heavy quilting. And no computer to break down!!!!! Small negative it that it does not do zigzag, I used my old cheap machine to zigzag. thanks again for your great advice, :)

Gosh; where to start? I'm in 48 flickr groups. :)

I'll list just a few:

-Wonderfully {Wonky} Improv Quilts & Blocks!!
-Batik Fabric...Projects (Quilts, Etc.)
-Two-Color Quilts
-Quilts & Blocks ~ Sashed in {White}
-Quilts Blocks & Tops - New Designs or Traditional
-Charity Quilts
-Baby Quilts

There are more I could list, but these are the most non-specific ones that I've joined. I think you can go to my photostream (http://www.flickr.com/photos/7808968@N07/) and click on my profile to see all my groups.

BTW, I will probably buy a Juki based on your advice (and the advice of others). :)

I love Flickr. I have to second the mention of Fresh Modern Quilts - this is my favorite Flickr group!

I also like The Modern Quilt Guild, Two-Color Quilts and Simply Solids. There are tons. Search on quilts and see what you find!

Before this post, I was seriously thinking that I do not spend nearly enough time online. Haha....

Well, thanks for solving THAT dilemma! I'll check these out and probably add a few more to my ever-growing list of flickr groups. Ah...LOVE flickr.

I have been trying really hard not to spend too much time on Flickr because I would never get anything else done. There's so much inspiration there, but it does make me feel a little overwhelmed. I do like the conversations that go on there, though.

I loved that Scrappy Mug Rug swap - so many cute little masterpieces!

I also love the My Morning Cup group, which has good conversation.

Now I need to check out that Quilt Backs group because I have three quilts that are ready for backs. Might have to check out that Simply Solid Quilts too. Dang you! (just kidding)

Wow -- what a great bunch of inspiration. I have a flickr account, but I really don't spend much time over there -- too busy reading blogs, I guess. I really need to remember to check it out more often -- thanks for the reminder!

That was a lot of fun! I will definitely be keeping my eye on a few of these groups. Thanks so much for the info. :)

Flickr is my favorite! I've met a lot of neat quilters through it... Plus, there are TONS of swaps, quiltalons, and bees that operate through Flickr. I didn't see this group mentioned: Quilting Bee Blocks [http://www.flickr.com/groups/quiltingbeeblocks/]. It's a great place for block inspiration and new techniques! And, if you wander through the "I Want In!" discussion, you'll see notices for new bees starting up. There's always something going on in the QBB!

Holy moly, I spend way too much time on Flickr. I am in like 50 groups now, but my current fave is the Pillow Talk Swap, which is in Round 4 now. Some seriously beautiful stuff!

Great round-up, Amanda Jean!

I have a "Stacked Coin Quilts" group. A stacked coin quilt is a perfect beginner project, and I found I looked for these types of quilts for inspiration when I was starting out. So I made a group!

Thank you for a great post on the groups.
Hope I'm not too busy at work today so I can get through most of them without interruption.

I can't believe I found the blog of the person who created the zig-zag-quilt-without-triangles technique! yay!

I made that quilt in blues for my grandson's "big boy quilt". I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

So thanks for sharing your technique!
