This little quilt is all about using hoarded fabric and celebrating my little girl at the same time.
She certainly doesn't need another "baby" quilt, but I figured why not? I have one girl and I might as well get all the enjoyment of sewing for her while she is still little. I had this lovely Heather Ross fabric in my stash that NEEDED to see the light of day.
I didn't want to chop it up into bits, so I simply sewed 3 1/2 yard pieces together for the top and stippled it. She's already using it and dragging it around the house.
Hurray for well loved quilts!
It is so sweet and you are right they are only little so long, enjoy!
ReplyDeleteand hooray for quick quilts too!
ReplyDeleteaw, so cute! that fabric is so fabulous! and I'm loving that striped binding too! :)
ReplyDeleteSupercute!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! And so very nice to have you posting again!
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs a new baby quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity of this one.
Sometimes you have to wonder why we cut such beautiful fabrics into such tiny little pieces.
Andi :-)
Hurray indeed...!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea using the larger sizes. I'll have to try it!!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is adorable!!
I love it! And hurray for using those hoarded fabrics. I'm getting better at it. Your nine-patch along got me started on cutting, and now I hardly flinch at all :)
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree, you can never have too many quilts according to my kids who have at least 5 each! I just made a bright quilt out of large strips of fabric and Mr 8 called it a "Cheer me up quilt" and claimed it as his own! Don't you just love a quilt that gets used to bits?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for fabric you would hate to cut into. I'll have to remember that!
ReplyDeletei love how simple this is, and there is nothing better than a well loved quilt.
ReplyDeleteNo one can ever have too many quilts ;-) Wouldn't we all like to have just one more? I love how you used those cute fabrics without chopping them up. Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your girl while you can. Take it from me, they grow up way too fast.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn
It's so lovely in its simplicity. One can never have too many quilts :) hehe
ReplyDeleteIt is so sweet. I agree you can never have enough quilts. I also have some HR lightning bugs that needs to see the light of day. I just can't figure out how to use it and make the most of the fabric. I love the striped binding.
ReplyDeleteAdorable and simple--what could be better? So happy you're back!!
ReplyDeleteAwww how sweet!!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteOh, this is very pretty! Great way to make use of the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter must love it!
I have been hoarding my pink camper fabric too! I love how you used it in this quilt for your sweet one. Looks so cozy all stippled and bound in candy stripes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea for a quick and easy quilt!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I am sooooo happy to see you back again =)
ReplyDeletethis is adorable...i love when the little ones really love a blanket, as she clearly does
ReplyDeleteThe best part about using hoarded fabric is seeing it used and enjoyed by someone else.
ReplyDeletei am thinking that i need to make another quilt for my only girl/child now. even she has more than many..
ReplyDeletelove your new quilt.
Hooray that you are back! I just can't say that enough. I love how simple this little quilt is. My 2 girls have yet to receive quilts from mama because I just can never find the time, I think I'm going to follow your lead and take a few 1/2 yard pieces of my favourite, hoarded, fabric and make one for them.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! And The Monster has been throwing them off the bed of late. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea and I lOVE the binding fabric.
ReplyDeleteI have a tendency to over-sew for my two year old little girl. My three older kids find this a terrible injustice, but I can't help it. There's something about making a little girl blanket that is simply irresistable!
ReplyDeleteA little girl can never have enough heirlooms!
ReplyDeleteYou never know how many children and grandchildren she will want to share them with :)
I know how you feel sometimes it is so hard to "chop". Great idea for a well loved quilt, plus you get to see a lot more of the Heather Ross fabric than if it was folded away inn your stash!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt, and a a great way to use fabrics that are too pretty (or large-printed) to cut!!
ReplyDeletehooray is right! i really like the simplicity of the quilt and that it doesn't take away from the pretty fabrics.
ReplyDeleteTotally sweeeeet! I'm so happy that you're back to blogging. (I'm a newish quilter that discovered your blog right before you stopped blogging!) Your tutorials are terrific and your gallery of finished quilts is so inspiring!

ReplyDeletethanks.
that first sentence just plain made me smile!
ReplyDeletecute and simple! I love the colors you used.
ReplyDeleteAwwww....love the backing fabric, too! I think I have some of that in my stash.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I have that Heather Ross fabric in my stash too. I love and can't bear to cut into it!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet! That's what I want for all my quilts: dragging around and being well used until they wear out! I don't think I could ever make a big quilt that's just for looks :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's a great idea for a super fast charity quilt.
Sweet and simple. Super cute with that candy colour stripey fabric for the binding. Yum!
ReplyDeleteVery nice!!! So cute, reminds me of ice cream. Love it. I also LOVE that you are back!!! I am a faily new quilter but have been reading your quilt for about two years. And was so sad that you were done in Jan. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy making those quilts while your little girl is young...although I will say, my big girls still like for me to make quilts, aprons and whatnot for them STILL. Yeah! for little and big girls!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Glad to see you back!

ReplyDeleteHoarded Heather Ross spent wisely!:) What a special lovie!
ReplyDeleteYay for fabric from your stash seeing the light of day! And in such a very well loved quilt, too.
ReplyDeleteYup, they are only little once and better that your sweetie love it rather than give it away! It's perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter will surely love every piece of it. Imagine how she would adore this lovely quilt. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful quilt will give your daughter comfort for a while! I'm sure she enjoys it! It's great. Good job.

Very good idea, and yours turned out so cute! Some fabrics are better not cut up so small; and I'm thinking this would be good for cleaning up some of my stash quickly- maybe even doll size using fat quarters!?!
ReplyDeleteYour fabric selection is delicious, and I really like the way the striped binding sets it off. Isn’t it fun having a little girl? Mine turned 47 on the 10th, and I am still sewing goodies for her. The fun just goes on and on. Hugs, Genie
