here we go again

Thank you to all of you who signed up to quilt along with me again. I had no idea if anyone would be interested at all (or as crazy as I am), but I'm so glad to have you along for round 2!

Here's my first block for round two:

I'm going scrappy again. This time I'm going to try my best to make one a day, not do them in batches of 7-10 like last time. Not that it's a bad thing, but I find I enjoy it more just doing one a day.

And I'm not feeling TOO guilty for starting round two, since I'm almost done with the first one.

To answer a few questions that came up:

It's not too late to join.

There is a tutorial here on how to piece a 9 patch using a strip piecing method if you would like to make multiple blocks at a time.

This is not a swap, just a quilt along.

For the backing you will need about 5 1/2 yards of fabric.
For the binding you will need about 3/4 yard of fabric.
For the other yardage requirements, please see the previous post.

The flickr group is here.

I'm going to try it .. but I think I'd better double (or triple) up to get done before the end of the summer.

P.S. I remember something about cutting extra blocks for the border ... you might want to edit the post and mention this :)

I wonder how many millions of nine patches are floating around blogland at the moment. It's a nine patch frenzy!
Thanks for linking to my little tute.

I want to play too! lol Seriously, I've been trying for two days to join in on this go around, but I can never seem to get my comment to appear. Hopefully third time is the charm!

Count me in for round 2. I love my lap sized but would love to make a twin for my daughter's bed.
I hope I can keep up!

Well, I'm going to give this a try. I know I will at least get a few blocks done. And maybe this will be the excuse I need to take a day off from work to just sew....

So, I'm in too!

I notice that your back and batting are quite bigger on both sides, do you trim it up before binding? Just wondering because I am at that point too and don't know what to do??

a nine-patch has to be one of my all-time favorites. I only have 5-no, 7-no 23 sewing projects going. More fun! pokey : }

So I signed up for the first round but got overwhelmed with other projects and kept saying I could catch up. I am going to try again with round two and make a block a day - just like you suggest!
My question - is it totally random for you or do you play with your squares and see what fits together nicely? That is what stumps me - I don't have alot of squares cut yet so how can I know the RIGHT combination is going to happen at this point???
Going to make square #1 right now and it isn't quite midnight here yet. ;)

I have made block #1 and block #2 since it really is day two now. :D

I could be tempted....hmmmm

Emily plus four,

Yes, I do trim the backing and sides-to about 1/4"-before handstitching the binding.

Geez, I'm a day behind already. Guess I'm going to have to "go to my room"!
Yea for me!!! :)

I would love to join but I have the previous half way pieced and 2 others that I've "promised" to finish by end of August.

Y'all have fun, I'll be watching.

I am fighting the urge to do this one...but, I feel myself slipping.

Hi! First, I love your blog! I'm so happy I could finally participate in a QAL!

Question: I am still working on number 1, but I feel like I have missed something...I am still attaching the sashing, but it looks like you have already stippled yours. Did I miss the step where you tell us how to get to the quilt sandwich? Or is this basic and I should just google around for tips on putting on a border and arranging the quilt sandwich...this is my first full quilt.

sarah,

i kind of covered how to add borders in the assembling your quilt top. (a few posts back.) and as far as basting, quilting and binding your quilt, you can check my tutorials section (on my sidebar) and all the info is there. hope that helps!

I am still working on the pieced border from the first quilt, but I jumped in with this one too. Since I was up at 2 am I already have my second block done for the day.

Thanks for the fun!

I'd love to make these nine patches though I don't see myself making one a day; rather doing a bunch in advance or to play catchup. I am hoping I will have something to show at the end! :)

I'm thinking I may join you this go 'round. I'm in love with that quilt and my scraps are getting out of control. But I REALLY REALLY don't need another project right now....but its only 1 per day, right? Well, I'd probably end up doing 7 at a time once a week....but still. Ok, I'll try. I have a stack of 9 patches that I made several months ago...so I'm already ahead of the game, right? LOL!!

I am so glad you are doing another round. I am in for sure. Didn't really get going on the first round so this is great. Count me in.

I love the colors of your first block. Blue and Green are one of my favorite color combinations to use in quilts.
I'm so glad I joined your Quilt-a-long. I've already made 14 blocks. Im kinda in a hurry to get it done as it's for my mom was just recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Ty again for hosting this, i love the idea and look forward to joining many more in the futur.

Amanda,

I hope you don't mind but I made up a button/graphic for this quilt along. Feel free to grab it - or not :)

Is it too late? Am I still able to join? I'd really love to. If I can't join officialy, I'll just do it on my own and watch.

Your firsst scrappy nine-patch is beautiful -- I started quilting with you, but got side-tracked. I'm glad to see you're doing it again. I'll join along and hopefully keep up this time -- at least I have a head start with some blocks already made!!!!
May I ask what type of bleached muslin you use? Do you get it from Joann's; which one??? Thanks,
Susan

I'm joining in. I'm a brand new quilter. I don't even think I can call myself a quilter. I've done one sampler jobber. But I've really caught the bug. I'm about 10 days late starting this, but I cut and sewed 7 blocks today Friday. I'm not using scraps since I don't have any, but my Joann's had some packages of charms on clearance and I bought 3 packages. It won't be enough but I can easily find some coordinating cloth for the last few.

Thanks!
