Hey, remember me? :) I didn't mean to disappear, but phew, last week was rough. I won't recount it all, but let me just say that remodeling (still) and being sick (for 5 straight days) don't mix well. I think I'm finally on the mend. Woo-hoo! And I'm thankful for antibiotics!!!!
These are 9 patches (even though you really can't tell) that are going to be made into a disappearing 9 patch quilt. (Inspired by this fabulous quilt.) I'm really liking the blocks just as they are, but I am going to force myself to cut them into quarters. I started with 3 packs of wee play charms and then added various other Moda fabrics from my stash that coordinated, but not all are from the same line. It's going to be a twin sized when it's done.
There is a disappearing 9 patch tutorial here.
I LOVE the D9P pattern (that's what I used for all of those fundraiser quilts a few months back). Its so quick and easy ~ but comes out looking so fabulous! I have a quilt in mind using the D9P, but I have to get my sewing machine fixed first :(
ReplyDeleteI feel lost without it....can't wait to see how your's turns out!
I signed your last post about your D9P because I'm also making one. I'm looking for advice because I have started doing it with the same print in the middle. I can change because I haven't done too many, but I thought it would make an interesting look... I also don't know if I want to keep the 9 patches all together. What do you guys think? Pictures are on my blog. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to do a D9P with American Jane for a while. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeletei JUST did a disappearing 9 patch tutorial on my blog this weekend.
ReplyDeletehow funny.
Super cute! charm packs are the best for the disappearing 9 :)
ReplyDeleteRandom question -- do you press open, or to one side?
Glad your feeling better!
I loved it just the way it was, but then I took a look at the disappearing 9 patch quilt and was in awe. Can't wait to see the finished result.

amy,
ReplyDeletefor this quilt i am pressing the seams to the side. since the blocks will be cut and flipped, the seam lines won't be lining up, so i can get away with it. (at least that's the thought-i hope i'm right!)

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Your quilt is awsome as is, but I know it will be even better, if that's possible, when you're finished. Can't wait to see it;)
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how this turns out!!
ReplyDeleteso glad your feeling better! it is no fun being sick, especially since life doesn't stop when your a mom!!
This is going to be a great quilt! Love the color combinations and the one on the link you showed. DNPs are great...I made a few charity baby quilts.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing the finished product!

How cool! I'm loving all of the awesome ideas I get from your blog. Now, if I could only convince my toddlers to be self-sufficient so I could have more time to sew. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love the disappearing 9 patch. It's a great, easy pattern.
ReplyDeleteOh it's going to be wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Thanks for the link to the tutorial!
ReplyDeletethis is going to be nice. i hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better! The quilt is lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I wish I could get something done.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors. Great job. I did a lap size disappearing nine patch using that tutorial. It was easy and looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love all those colors together. So bright and fun and a little boyish. I need to make more boyish quilts.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're feeling a little better -- sorry you were sick. I think you deserved a week off. Rest, girl!
It's going to look GREAT!!! I know it's hard to cut them but I bet you will be soooo glad you did. This is going to look fantastic in a disappearing 9 patch!! Glad to hear you're feeling better.:)
ReplyDeleteOooh, that's going to be one great lookin' quilt CrazyMom!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a fun pattern to do - can't wait to see how this looks when it is done...
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have recently found your delightful blog and have spent many happy hours looking at your very inspiring work. I am a novice quilter despite being a textile designer for the quilt market!
Another lovely design with some beautiful fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely comment on my blog.
Andi :-)
Looks great!
ReplyDeletehey, it's my birthday today, everyone come on over to say hi.
I want to make one of these someday. Your choice of fabric is great! You get more done than I do even when you are sick for 5 days and in the middle of a remodel. OY!
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern and even though I've done it once, I'd do it again, its a great result for little effort. I love the fabrics you are using.
ReplyDeleteI'm about to embarck on my first disappearing 9 patch quilt and could use some help (I've had charm packs for weeks but have been afraid to really start). Any words of advice regarding (a) which fabric to use for the center of the original 9 patch, should it always be the same color or different? (b) when you mix them, are they totally random, or do you keep the (4) squares from the first 9 patch all together? and (c) do you do any planning ahead of time (when making the original 9 patches) to make sure when all is said and done you don't have repeat fabrics side by side?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
That is so cute, a fun mix of colors for Spring! :)
ReplyDeleteI love those colors!! I have never seen a DP9 quilt before, but I look forward to seeing the completed quilt.
ReplyDeleteJessica J.,
ReplyDeleteso far, i started by piecing 3 squares together. (i did this until all my blocks were stitched to other blocks.)
then i am going to use those 1 x 3 strips to make 9 patches. i am not worried about which fabric is in the center square. as long as the fabrics look good together, i am fine with wherever they end up. then i will cut apart the 9 patches and layout the quilt, trying not to get two similar fabrics to touch...but if they do, i may just leave it anyway. i might have other advice when i'm done. :) i hope that helps!
aj
Cool. Fun fabric. Sorry you were sick so many consecutive days.
ReplyDeleteIts going to be great, awesome mix of colors... I especially love that ruler fabric! So cute in everything!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI made a D9 quilt and hate it. Acutally, it will be a top forever and never completed. I don't like the randomness of it, and I hate the way the fabrics I liked so much became so small and lost their pizzazz. If I were to do it again, I would use fabrics that were nearly solid, without a lot of pattern and let the quilt pattern speak for itself. I guess in the end I just felt so disappointed in my results.
ReplyDeleteoh how pretty....i have three wee play charm packs waiting...it looks so pretty as is, but a disappearing 9 patch is so much fun
ReplyDeleteLove it! I hope everyone is feeling better now!
ReplyDeleteThose disappearing nine patches are addictive! I love them, and your charms are going to make a beautiful one!
ReplyDeleteI love the disappearing 9 patch, I was hooked on that pattern for so long I justified buying a ton of charm packs! LOL Now I've moved on to other patterns (many still using my beloved charm packs) :) That Wee Play is one cute fabric line. Can't wait to see this when you are finished. Glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteWow - cool link. I'm so curious about this. You're going to cut this up?!?
ReplyDeleteI love the colors, can't wait to see it done. I just posted a disappearing nine patch quilt I finished in my blog this week. It really is a super easy pattern and with how quick you are, you will have it done in no time.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with it!! ;o)
I love the disappearing nine patch. It will be fun to see what a big difference such a cut makes of this same combo.
ReplyDeleteI just love this pattern! Instant gratification! Good luck (with the quilt and the bathroom remodel)! Have a great day!
ReplyDeletecute stuff! It's amazing what you can do with nine patches :)
ReplyDeleteFeel better, friend.
ReplyDeleteThe squares are so pretty! The fabrics are really cute.
ReplyDeleteHope you've recovered well :)
Take care!
Hugs,
Pratima
Last November I used this tutorial to make a play quilt. I was so pleased with the ease of piecing and open-ended layout possiblities. I also appliqued a VW bus on it. Here's the link if you'd like to take a look: http://hermionejschwartz.blogspot.com/2009/01/ez-camper-quilt.html. I can't wait to see how yours turns out! =]
ReplyDeleteSorry you had the sickies. Bleh. I had them a couple of weeks ago. Still fighting the cough a bit even after about 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the wee play fabrics! I think this will make a really cute disappearing nine patch. Now you got me thinking maybe I should try one of these, too.
I might have to go look at charm packs now, LOL.
love it! both ways actually!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the colors. As a beginner I was wondering, when you use the charm packs what size you cut them down to for each individual square before you start sewing?
ReplyDeleteI just completed my very first quilt and it was a disappearing 9 patch quilt also. I also just picked up 3 charm packs of Wee Play - I think this quilting thing is getting in my blood. Thanks so much for all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteadrianne,
ReplyDeletei don't cut the charm packs before sewing them together. i use them as they are...which is 5". i hope that helps.
aj
I LOVE those colors!!!! I want one like this!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny, I've got some Recess charm packs (which seem to be complimentary to Wee Play) that have been waiting on me since Christmas - and I'd planned on doing a disappearing 9-patch with them.
ReplyDeleteI've got some Dick&Jane fabric for the backing and the binding.
Cute, cute, cute!
