and the winner is...

You guys!!! You are so sweet. Thanks for all your comments!!! I am blown. away. It took me awhile to read through all the comments to see what you were up to the past few days. :0) I feel like i got to know you all better. That was fun...let's do it again sometime.

The winner of the fabric is...number 5, Regi. Thanks to all of you who played along!

Now, onto some quilting progress...

Despite my sick kids, (we've had strep, fever, flu [ewww!] and a cold going around) I finally finished my swell quilt top.

I debated a long time about the layout. I wasn't feeling the zig zag...so on Sunday night I played around with about 4 different layouts and this was my favorite. I love the vintage feel of it. I still want to do a zig zag quilt sometime, but in my mind, this wasn't the right fabric combination for it.

I used 4 swell charm packs (32 squares in each) and i paired the squares with cream fabric (quilter's only cotton in the color parchment-from JoAnn's) and made them into triangles. Triangles are not my favorite, but I think it will be worth it. The layout is 14 by 18 blocks. It measures about 56" x 72", which means I will have one more to add to my lap quilt collection. But in my defense, I did have this one started before the beginning of this year. I already have the backing (and binding) in my stash, so I'm hoping to finish this quilt soon.

I like it very much! Making triangles scares me a bit :)

Elena and me will definately be starting your quilt-a-long next week. It's our very first one but your explanations are SO good we decided to dare.
Thanks.

You always make things that look so easy, and makes me want to make them. This is so not good, as I usually have no time. But I love to imagine making them, and I LOVE going to Joann and picking out fabric (in my mind) for each of the projects. Thanks for your contributions to my imagination!

It's adorable CrazyMom!

Oh, and you spelled my name wrong...it's not r-e-g-i, it's a-n-n-a. Not to worry though, there is a r-e-g-i out there and I'm sure she'll take great care of my prize!!!

Have you ever used the thangles triangle papers? When you're making scrappy quilts the strips are small enough where you don't need to cut alot of paper, like the roll of triangle papers. The accuracy is unbelieveable. The roll of papers is great when you need to make alot of the same. The top is beautiful. Feel better.

You can't go wrong with that layout. It's a classic. I can't wait to see it quilted.

Here's hoping you and yours feel better very soon.

I'm making a baby quilt with triangles too! I was thinking to do it pinwheel style but in the end decided to do the same layout as yours.

Hope everyone is better soon!

Love the soft colors on this one and I agree it feels very vintage! Triangles are currently the bane of my existence (hourglass quilt!) so I admire your perfect piecing!

I'm really digging this quilt top. I think I'm going to figure out which charm squares I'm going to use... get me some solid cotton and get to work. I really like it!

Sounds like way too many sickies in one house. Not fun! But your quilt sure is!! Very cute! :)

I hope you have been spared! Still a bunch of sickies are no fun - hope they are snuggled under a few of your quilts napping the day away :)

You top is very fun - I love the simplicity of it!

Just have to comment on your give-away. Did you ever in your wildest thoughts think there would be over 900 people clammering for your fabric? You must have had a wild day reading all the comments. Guess that makes you the Queen of the Bloggers. Congratulations!! And, yes I bow to the Queen....love checking out your blog.

I love the layout of the quilt. I too like the vintage feel it has. :)

Such sweet colors. You picked a perfect layout. A zigzag would need stronger contrast maybe.

Hope everyone is better at your house soon!

Congrats to Regi on winning the pretty fabrics. I hope the kids are feeling better soon. I love that Swell fabric & your quilt top looks great. Now Urban Chiks have come out with a new line (Sweet) that reminds me alot of their Swell fabric line. Oh where does it all end? LOL

I love the colour combo... :)

Dang, I didn't win :( hehe

I have a question for you. What are your favorite sizes of lap quilts? Is the 56"x72" big enough to cover two adults (or, a few sick kids!) to cuddle on the couch? The blankets I have are, well, less than ideal in size and/or proportion & I want to make some new ones, but I need a little guidance :)

You are right...I like this layout better than the zigzag. I'm currently going through my stash and you've inspired me to host a giveaway to clear out some of the fabrics that I'm no longer in love with. I'll probably post it this weekend.
Hey ~ have you ever seen a Roman Stripes pattern? Your new quilt reminds me of that. You can see my favorite here: http://maryquilts.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/amish-stripes-and-strings.pdf

I just love your style so much. When I found your blog a few weeks ago, it inspired me to dig out all of my unfinished quilts and actually finish them.

katie k,

i think the ideal lap quilt size you are describing is actually a twin size quilt. i'm trying really hard to start make more quilts into twin size, because they are perfect for snuggling for two (and a few little kiddies, too). so about 63" x 88".

hope this helps!
