more stippling!
-----
one of my local quilt shops is having a cold weather sale. (quite appropriate, considering it was -22 F yesterday morning.) all fabrics on the bolt were 45% off yesterday. i went, walked around the store about 8 times and walked out with NOTHING! can you believe it?

I admire you control. I'm not sure I could have done that! The quilt is beautiful! Thanks to you - I have been inspired to finish 2 quilts since Christmas. One of them I even did meander quilting! Thanks for the inspiration!
Amazing! Though I probably would not have left the house even :) Your quilt in progress is really fun!
I like the quilt - were you using up scraps or ...? Please tell us about it.
oh. i really like this quilt... thanks to your inspiration, i just bought a whole bolt of WHITE with a 50% off coupon at JoAnn's. it's a bit intimidating to look at, but i'm determinded to make lots of scrappy quilts this year. thanks for the great ideas!
Yikes! No fabric? I went to JoAnns yesterday and even bought fabric (although I wasn't going to). But I do know that there are days when nothing jumps at me.
I have done that before too. It's very depressing not being able to find something on sale. Love the quilt in the picture. Can you tell us more about it?
I kind of hate when that happens, but we get so picky about our stashes sometimes!
This might sound like on odd comment, but I'd like to thank you for posting (larger) photos, I'm learning to quilt and its beneficial to be able to see details!
I love this quilt!!! Did you have a pattern?
I just realized that my mom has the exact same machine as yours. I loved the speed and the sturdiness.
Your quilt is looking great.
that has happened to me too. not very often but it has happened!
your quilt is looking so lovely! i love this type of coin quilt. i just finished mine and just posted it on my new blog! :) but it won't be in my house for long since it is for my sister in laws shower! i never knew it would be so hard to give something that i've spent so much time on and gotten kind of attached to. how do you do it??? though, i'm excited for it to be used in their nursrey! :)
Your quilt is beautiful. I love quilts with so much white.
I can't believe you bought nothing. I'm not even sure I support that! haha.
Do you celebrate in America today something like April fool's day? xD
Congratulations! I have never been able to be surounded by fabrics and leave without buying anything!
45%off? I admire you...I think a fat quarter or two would have jumped in my bag. Any chance you have a tutorial for this quilt? I know you've got a zip zip method for doing it. I love that look.
i am really proud you didn't buy anything?!! ;)
LOVE all that white!
I can believe it I have done that too! My husband thinks something is wrong with me when that happens. I love what you are quilting. Fantastic!
Don't you just love stippling? I find it really relaxing and my new machine practically does it all.
I have a quilt similar to your pattern, however yours looks sooooooooo much nicer.
Yes, what do we do on cold cold days such as we've had. Visit friends on blogs and admire their resilience not to buy for the sake of buying.
wow! your good!~ ;-) I don't know if I could have done that.
How do you like that juki? IS it the industrial TL98QE? I was thinking of getting one, as i brought my machine BACK again for repairs yesterday...I gave one a test run. love that speed!
NOTHING!? Seriously?! I can't believe you were able to do it. In fact, I'm trembling at the thought of 45% off fabric.....ohhhhhh!
I'm shocked! But good for you - I love seeing what you do with your stash!
BTW, I just posted about my first ever quilt retreat - with pictures of my 2nd quilt! Check it out if you have a chance!
Your quilt looks fabulous! Love all those fabrics - looks like a great way to use up extra scraps!
i am shocked you got left empty handed! i would have spent way too much money.
-22 wow you are a brave woman. It was 22 here this morning and I didn't want to get out. I'm just a pansy!!!
Does your fabric shop have a website?
Also I'm new to the quilting world so what is stippling?
The cold is getting kind of old isn't it? Love this quilt you're working on. I've been thinking I need to do something like this - kind of a one of everything from the stash quilt. Do you worry about using white with little ones around? (No one but me is allowed to touch the quilt from you! I'm a quilt snob!!)
I love this one too. The white really sets off the colors.
I LOVE this quilt! What a fantastic way to use up tiny pieces of fabric I've been hoarding.
Frostbite ... that's the explanation!
You are a rock! I can't believe you went out in -22 and still didn't buy anything. I'm sure I would have had to buy something to wrap my feet in for the ride home -- oh, no, wait, I'm still on a fabric-buying moratorium. I love the quilt you're stippling -- looks like the Fruit Stripes one. Can't wait to see it finished.
Wow, 45% off and you didn't buy a thing? What willpower!! I love the quilt you are working on now, it looks so fresh!
nothing? really? not even muslin, a lowly solid...nothing. that must have been some sad fabric not to be able to come home with you.
Whoa girl you must have quite a stash waiting for you at home to pass up that sale!
I can believe you didn't buy any fabric, but did the employees understand?
Maybe all that stippling will keep you warm in that -22 weather????? (Don't wear out your arms, though.)
I really love a stippled quilt! Your's is just beautiful! I am just returning to quilting after 20 years and am thrilled to find blogs like yours. I can't wait to try stippling. I think I will piece a totebag this weekend so that I can try stippling. I read or heard somewhere to put waltz music on when stippling - it's supposed to give your rhythym! lol
I hate it when a favorite shop is having a fantastic sale and I just can't find anything I want. Better for your stash-busting, though.
Can't think of a better way to keep warm than snuggling under one of your lovely quilts. Happy stippling!
The colored strips are looking so happy against the white. What a fun quilt!
Send some of your cold this way please, a scorching hot summers day here!
I do that too sometimes...simply because I can't decide. I usually end up kicking myself for not buying anything. Lol!
Wow! Not sure I could have passed up 45% off! I am loving the look of the quilt on the machine, too! can't wait to see the finished thing.
whew, I'm NOT going to out in minus temps even it's a sale. and good for you for resisting the temptation! or was there really nothing to buy?
this quilt is making me crazy! i love it so much. I love how with all the white, you can use all different colors of fabric. stunning!
What?!?! All the cold weather must be freezing your shopping brain cells. Love the stippling and quilt, you've got here for us to look at.
You okay? Sounds serious to me.
Dang girl, do you whip out a quilt every day? It's lovely!
Great self control. I find shopping with a four year old generally curtails my spending...
Hmm, no fabric from the sale? Must be too cold, yea blame it on the cold. I love your blog and ALL of the beautiful quilts.
Yes I can belive it. I've done it myself, more than once. There usually is so much I want, that I can't decide, so I get nothing. Next time. :)
Wow, nothing? 45% off is pretty tempting! I love the new quilt. Its very colorful and happy. Its a happy quilt!
Its -8 F here right now...ugh. Spring, spring, spring.....its my mantra!
I have never left my favourite quilt shop without at least a fat quarter, but have left many others empty handed and disappointed.
Your new quilt looks lovely!
Well I can't believe that!! But I can believe that you are still stippling - and how lovely is that quilt. It may be the answer to my quest for a quilt style for a girlfriend. It's so fresh and pretty looking.
Looks great... at least while you're doing all that stippling, you are keeping warm under all that quilt!! Lx
No...I can't believe it. Bet it was fun just looking around. That is really cold!!!!
The quilt is beautiful!
I am not quite sure whether "Congratulations" or "I am sorry" is more appropriate...maybe you reached the point when you get only what you really need at the moment.
I walked in a shop yesterday with a big list and bought only 3-4m /less than 4'/. I was surprised but I am happy with it.
You are something else woman!
I have a lap size quilt top almost completed and will attempt my first try and machine quilting(stippling)..I'm just going to go with it and try not to pressure myself as it's going to be for us anyways. Pray for me!! lol
-22º???? Your purse must be frozen, that's why you didn't buy anything...
Greetings from Spain.
Beautiful as always! When did you start this one?
i'm impressed! with the quilt and your restraing....
I LOVE that quilt! No fabric looks more dramatic than coupled with either black or white! It's real eye-candy!
I went to a quilt shop in Woodstock NY yesterday. No sale. I still walked out of there with over $115-bucks of fabric and patterns (for the most beautiful and energetic BOM quilt kit I've seen in a long time). I'll probably never start the darn thing -- I KNOW you know what I'm talking about!) -- but I had to have it.

Great self control -- both satisfying and regrettable at the same time!
Love the quilt!
I had to check the date and make sure it wasn't April Fools. But the sharp bite of single digit temps reminded me Apr is far away!
I have a question for you. When you do your machine quilting how do you secure all the layers? Straight pins, safety pins, basting stitch?
I need a tutorial on stippling..on a regular sewing machine. I have a few baby quilts to finish.
Let's see.....your quilt shop had a 45% off sale, you made eight trips around the store and walked out with nothing???
Girl, did you check your pulse? Are you respiratin'?
Actually, I'm proud of you. I know that's not easy!
Wow that is totally amazing. How did you do it?
Looking good...and such self control...I'm very impressed;) Keep up the good work;)
I had kind of a disappointing trip to my LQS yesterday. I needed 4 primary solids and they only had 2 of the colors I wanted. I'm a long time reader, 1st time commenter. You are such an inspiration! Love your work!
I love your quilts with the white background. I made one for myself last summer and had so much fun with it.
I've got squares completed for two other quilts but have never finished them. My next big project is to complete them both.
Happy sewing! :)
cute quilt and yay for avoiding spending money on fabric! You are doing just fine creating wonderful masterpieces with all the great fabric you have
Congrats for avoiding spending money. I am so proud of you! I love the coin quilt and the green and white quilt you and Heather are making. I'm so inspired from your blog.
Yes I adore the quilt but I'm star struck by the machine! It is good and bad not to buy things these days!
I just got a machine like this and it is fantastic at quilting! The quilt looks lovely!
Wow, what discipline. I go crazy in fabric shops. One reason is because the nearest one is 2 hours away, so my excuse for buying is I do not know when I will be back so I get it all then. HA! HA!
My Goodness! How many miles do you have on that sewing machine? You are the MOST amazing, MOST INSPIRING blogger that I know of! When I see all you accomplish, I have NO excuses. That is what keeps me going. Bless your heart.

What???? Nothing?? I'm very proud of you. :-)
hello again,
i had a quick question for you. What is the best way to do sashing. I did it for the first time, and i feel like my squares did not line up perfectly.
I made the long strips, using my blocks and 6" x 12' rectangles, then i sewed my long white sashing to my long strips. maybe it just takes a few times? i will check in the comments so you don't have to email me back.
thanks!
Wow. Such control. I don't know if I would have been able to control myself.
I call that discipline! Or did you forget your wallet at home?!!!
AmandaJean,
Are you stippling using just a regular sewing machine? It's not a long arm? I have been scared to try it because I only have a regular sewing machine and I was afraid I wouldn't have enough room to move the quilt around.
Your blog is my guilty pleasure! I can't imagine ever quilting this well... but can live vicariously thru your pictures! I've awarded you a Fabulous Blog award... you can check my blog for the details! :)
Krisin TN,
yes, i do all my stippling on my regular machine. i don't have a long arm.
aj
Very beautiful work! You have encouraged me to self-stipple my quilt tops without the expense of a long arm! I've got a long way to go but you have been my source of inspiration
katie,
i like to measure the width of my quilt, and then cut the long sashing pieces to fit. then pin, pin, pin and pin some more. otherwise it will not line up at the ends. let me know if you have any other questions.
aj
okay, yes, pin. i need to start doing that. ahem. i bet that is my problem. i am a lazy sewer!
Wow! Nothing? That is impressive :)
