My quilt was 67.5" x 90".
The setting is 6 blocks across and 8 blocks down.
The setting is 6 blocks across and 8 blocks down.
Use a quarter inch seam allowance throughout.
You will need 48 of these blocks. The little squares in the 4 patches are cut 2.5". (Cut 8 for each block.) The larger squares are cut 4.5". (Cut 2 for each block.)
You will need 35 of these blocks. The center square is cut 4.5". Two rectangles are cut 2.5" x 4.5". The other 2 rectangles are cut 2.5" x 8.5".
Cut 2 squares (from white) 6 5/8", then cut those to make half square triangles. (Cut on the diagonal once.) These are for the 4 corners.
Cut 6 squares (from white) 12 5/8", then cut those to make quarter square triangles. (Cut on the diagonal both ways.) You should have 24 of these.
Now, sew it all together. If you make one, I'd love to see it!
Happy sewing.

Uh-oh. Just this morning I was making a list of projects to try this summer. Now, with the measurements of your beautiful quilt right in front of me (i.e., no math for me!), how can I resist adding it to my list? Maybe even bumping some other projects down a bit...hmm...
Thank you for sharing this information! It's very generous of you.
Ooo... I'm with Holly, this has definitely gotten onto my summer project list. Do the measurements include seam allowances?
Might have to make one similar someday, but right now I have plenty of projects to keep me busy!
Honestly, I can't tell you that I will ever have the patience to make this. But, I do appreciate all the math you must have had to do to make this work!!
Definitely was NOT just "being nice". It's one of my favourite quilts for ages!!
sarah, yes the measurements do include seam allowances.
oh I am going to print the measurements out. Thanks... this is just want a novice like me needs :)
That just seems so time consuming to me, yet you whip these up in no time at all. (I'm still working on that "quilt" I started a few weeks ago, although I haven't touched it lately.)
Wow thanks! That quilt truly is a winner and now everybody can make one of their very own.
Please explain why I now have a desire to run out & go showpping for fabric? (That quilt looks like you rummaged through my stash...) Thanks for the numbers...
The way you combined your colors is very contemporary! I am glad you are sharing your recipe too! No promises that I will make one soon, but am inspired enough to copy down the directions!
I will start rummaging through my pile of 4.5 scraps , your quilt is such a great piece of work and so delicious looking, thanks for the recipe, you will get a look at my process(flickr).
great quilt to use up scraps with. thanx for posting the directions!
oh boy! I have a shoe box full of 2 1/2 inch scraps, this should put a dent in it! I am starting on it today even though I just found your blog, through the posting on Craft Magazine's blog.
I love this quilt! My son is a junior. Maybe if I start making blocks for it now, I could conceivably have one of these finished for his high school graduation in June '09!
Thanks so much for sharing! My mom and me made this, we loved it so much! I've posted a picture on my blog...
Cheers,
Reethi
Thanks for adding me. Can't wait to follow everyones along!
You are just amazing, the amount of work that you finish makes me feel so lazy LOL :) I want to give this quilt a go as soon as I get more work done on my crazy quilt. I have a ? though , what are the size of the side triangles? Thanks so much for posting all these wonderful patterns !
Amy M.
i love your site but usually just lurk...=(...would like your "
future's so bright" quilt to be my next project and posted about it on my blog this morning with a link to here...i sure hope that's okay with you...thank you for the inspiration and sharing all of the beautiful things you make!...=)...
i LOVE your blog and would love to make this quilt but I am busy with another quilt. How long will you leave the directions on your blog? This is a beautiful quilt and I have lots of fabric scraps.
Thanks Jane
jane,
I plan to leave the measurements up indefinitely. enjoy at your leisure.
Amandajean you are so generous to give out this pattern. I loved it immediately and started making it. I only have 4 diagonal rows done so far, but it will be finished soon and I'll be sure to send you a photo. I'd like to post the photo as well on my Flickr site, but only with your permission. Full credit for the design will be included of course. Would this be okay? Thanks!
Kathy
Kathy,
That would be just fine! Enjoy the pattern. can't wait to see your version of it.

Amanda Jean,
I made a quilt from your pattern - blogged here: http://saltmarshdesigns.blogspot.com/2009/03/my-version-of-futures-so-bright.html
Thanks a million for sharing it! You are one talented lady!
I also made this quilt as a wedding gift for my niece. I just posted photos of it on my Blogspot blog, BrooklynQuilter.com. I'd post a link if I knew how!
Thanks for the pattern. I really love how it turned out.
