a geranium dress for my girl

I'm not a serious garment sewist by any means, but I like to dabble in that arena from time to time. I made this geranium dress for my girl on Saturday evening and she wore it to church on Sunday. (Pattern is available here.) I sewed the size 12 and added 2" to the length, which turned out to be the perfect fit. Hurray for the ability to customize your project! I love how it fits her slender frame. Someday her and I can wear our matching dresses if we care to. (You can see my gingham washi dress here.) I'd better jump at that chance before she gets much older, right?!? :)

I also wanted to take a moment today to say thank you to those of you who left kind comments about my finish it up Friday break. Thanks for understanding and for making it such a fun event for so long. I sure appreciate it!

Happy Monday to you!

I love her dress and I just looked at yours again the other day. Working on a gingham king size quilt right now and I debated between aqua or coral. I chose coral since I loved yours so much. Thanks for the inspiration. Paula in KY

If you are planning to go all "twinsies" with your daughter, you DEFINITELY better do it soon!! LOL Great looking dress, by the way.

I made my daughter and I matching dresses when she was 4. She was so happy to match me. Now, she's 26 and she laughs at the picture of the two of us in our matching dresses. Carpe Diem! I still think we looked cute in our matching dresses....

You had me at "fits her slender frame.." I am showing this to my almost 12 year old when she gets home from camp as finding ready to wear clothes to fit her skinny self is next to impossible!

It turned out lovely. I have made about a dozen of this dress for my grand daughter over the last couple of years as she grows. Such a simple pattern, but you can customize it so many ways and it never disappoints. Nice job.

She looks lovely. It is so crazy how quickly they grow up. It is trite and we say it all the time but so true. They are 2, blink and they are 12, blink and they have their own two year old and so on. Enjoy her. It is nice she still 'lets' you sew for her. Right now, I have terrible taste as far as my daughter is concerned, tho she is very polite about it. Oh well....

It's lovely, why is it called a geranium dress? I have never heard that style called that before!

Hi Amanda,
What a sweet and fabulous dress for your daughter. Yes, jump on that matching thing now before she gets too old. She'll come back around in her 20s hopefully, but you just never know. Missed opportunities are just that - missed.

Wow! I'm so impressed and love how the dress turned out. Just perfect for a girl her age...not too adult but not babyish at all either.

I'm sure it will be worn for many happy memories!
