This quilt was my last finish for 2016. I finished it about 2 in the afternoon on Saturday, then I took my boys to the park where they were gracious enough to hold the quilt. They had a game of Frisbee going on the side, which helped their attitudes a lot. (Hurray for that!)
This quilt is made up primarily from scraps. The white fabric is Kona Snow. I love the warm colors, the fact that I was able to use brown successfully, and work in some pink and green, too. I pushed myself in the colors/combinations that I used, and I'm so glad that I did.
The binding is a funky plaid by Denyse Schmidt for JoAnns from 2013. (Yikes, that's getting old, already!) It's the only print used in the entire quilt, but I love how the plaid ties everything together!
The backing is made up of a solid green, which I originally pieced without any linen. I had the backing taped to the floor and everything when I decided the back needed to be larger. (I knew that in the beginning, but I was hoping to squeak by.) I should have added the linen strip in the first place! Anyway, I'm glad I took the time to fix it. The quilting is organic, to be sure, but I think it compliments the wonky blocks in the front.
The quilt measures 50" x 66". It's scrap project #191! I think this is another quilt that shows that simple is good!
Love the plaid binding, it is so fun!!! And the colors are all just so warm, perfect contrast to the snowy background. Such a pretty finish!!
I LOVE this! The binding is perfect for tying the block fabrics together. Awesome way to end the year. :-)
It's really lovely. It manages to be both quiet, and still make a statement. Well done.
Beautiful quilt! I love the use of the plaid binding and the bold look of the warm colors against the white background. I would have never put those together, but now I want to try it.
I'm curious how often you use a bias binding. I come from a sewing background and in my mind bias and binding are synonymous. Then my aunt got me started quilting and she never uses bias. I realize it isn't necessary for the straight edged quilt, but do you ONLY use it as a design feature?
This is beautiful! I think the plaid binding is just fantastic!
I love it. You accomplish quite a lot considering you have a family to care for. I always enjoy seeing what you have completed. Love your quilts!
I appreciate the unusual color combo, and the solids really shine with the simple design. I also love the use borders on the top and bottom alone. It's lovely!
Another amazing and beautiful quilt. Love the design!
The snow is a perfect backdrop. The blocks seem to float and land so peacefully.
I love this, it's so clean and simple, not fussy at all, but beautiful!
Yes, Simple is good. When you create something like this, do you just sketch out the blocks and work backward to determine the size? I guess my question is, how much of a plan did you have when you first started this quilt? Or, was it actually based on a pattern.
Love the binding, by the way. Happy New Year!
I LOVE the plaid binding. It is just perfect!
Amanda Jean, Thank you for sharing all your awesomeness with us. Your blog has inspired me SO much. I can't even begin to name all the projects I've undertaken (in 2016) that originated with you. Two Scrap Vortex quilts, Confetti and the squirkles quilt just to name a few.
Can't wait to see what 2017 brings.
Beautiful. Congrats on the finish.
Love this! And I love the plaid binding...that little touch of print is a wonderful detail. I may consider a print on the binding of my solid sampler. Thanks for the inspiration!
Love this. i especially like the ay they are all different sizes and don't match exactly. x
Another gorgeous quilt! Thank you for the inspiration. What type of machine do you use to quilt with?
I really like this quilt and especially the plaid binding. Not sure what you mean by organic quilting because others call it straight line or wobbly line quilting.
What a beautiful quilt - and what good boys! I still have some of that binding fabric too - it looks brilliant as a binding. Colour combinations are awesome - well done!
This is lovely and love the wintery scene in the photos , just perfect for snuggling in one of your amazing quilts, plaid binding is a stroke of genius.
It's gorgeous. I have loved all these end-of-year quilts you've churned out. Lovely, all of them.
I really like the colors in this quilt and that plaid binding is perfect! Great quilt!!!
I love the quilt and I love your yard!! I was contemplating getting rid of my brown fabric, but instead, I might challenge myself to try and use it successfully (might!).
Looks fabulous - love the binding on it.
Simple and bright. The quilt turned out beautifully! Congrats on a fun finish.
I love everything about this quilt; the pattern, the colors, the binding, how you pieced the back, and for some reason, I just love that white, it just looks so comforting, peaceful and clean. I can imagine wrapping that around myself. Who is the lucky recipient of this quilt?
