There hasn't been a ton of sewing going on here this week, but I managed to make 3 more WIP bags. I've made 7 total so far and I'm almost done tweaking the construction. Hurray for that! Now I just need to figure out all the sizes. All in the name of product development. :) Maybe all 20-something of my projects will have cute bags by the time I'm done writing the pattern!
This is the smallest WIP bag that I've made so far, finishing at 8". Isn't it cute??? I still haven't run out of my stash of zippers. AMAZING!
Another small finish for the week...I turned these two tiny orphan blocks into pin cushions. (I use crushed walnuts for the filling, because it adds a nice weight. They could probably double as bean bags, just don't tell my kids that!)
I thought it would be fun to fill this whole bowl with pin cushions. Then, when friends come over, they can take their pick. It'll be like a candy dish for the sewing room! Hahahaha! It's going to be so fun to make a bunch! They don't call me crazy for nothing! :)
Now it's your turn! Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!
Oh my goodness, a bowl full of pincushions, how adorable!!! I want to come over and visit ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the zipper pouches but how do you like the zipper being in the middle rather than closer to one side? Is it more or less hard to operate that way?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the pattern for those project bags to come out! So many people I'd like to give them to!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute idea for the pincushion bowl! Like your bags too!

Don't think I did not notice the reverse polka dots on the zipper portion of the white and red polka dot bag! So cute! And to have a bowl of pin cushions...that would also be a nice take away from one of your upcoming classes too.
ReplyDeleteThose pin cushions are so cute - the would be great doll pillows too I bet!
ReplyDeleteThe pin cushions are adorable.....the bags are pretty nifty as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any finishes this week so I will just look and see what everyone else has linked to this time. love those little pin cushions so cute.
ReplyDeleteThose WIP bags are nice, but with my luck I'd need a WIP bag to put unfinished WIP bags in. ;) I love the pincushions too. Super cute. Maybe that's what I should make with my smaller orphan blocks. Where do you get your crushed walnut shells? Do you just eat a bunch of walnuts, or can I buy them that way?
ReplyDeleteCrazy in the best sort of way!
ReplyDeleteSweet little pincushions!
ReplyDeleteLol what a funny post! I love the WIP bags.
ReplyDeleteAndrea,
ReplyDeleteI buy the crushed walnut shells at a larger pet store. they usually use them as lizard litter. One large bag makes a TON of pin cushions. I hope that helps!

I just began a little basket in my living room where I've been adding little sewing projects (potholders and coasters so far) for visiting friends to choose from. I like your pincushion idea!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah - those wip bags are a great idea and I'll be watching for your pattern...and crushed shells from the petstore is the way to go, tho I think I could share with all my friends and still not use up the bag!
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! a pincushion bowl... love it!
ReplyDeleteLove your candy dish for the sewing room. And no calories!
ReplyDeleteAdorable pincushions! Thank you for the party!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a bowl full of pincushions! I'll come over and sew for one. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great gift idea with your little pincushions - they are cute! Your bags are so neat - it's going to be hard to finish your WIP's with them in such pretty storage.
ReplyDeleteOh I am so looking forward to this pattern - I really need something to help me organise all my fabric and projects in waiting and it looks just the thing!
ReplyDeleteall so fabulous and practical!
ReplyDeleteI am sure many have said this but your pin cushion bowl just makes me smile! I want to come visit! I could actually have that in my sewing room and no one would gain weight! Totally calorie free! Thanks for sharing all your great ideas and inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love pincushions, and yours are so sweet. I made a pincushion myself, and linked up. And I'd like to try those zippered bags too.
ReplyDeleteLove those pin cushions! I'd like to say THANK YOU for a great linky party and let you know I finished the Top to my Ticker Tape version from your Sunday Morning Quilt book. LOVE IT! Can't wait to quilt it..Loading it on the frame today! Your work is inspiring and LOVE your blog! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYesterday I led a class in making pincushions using selvages....very "green" sewing!
ReplyDeleteI love those WIP bags! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI hope you make a tutorial for those project bags!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea the sewing room candy dish pincushions are!! I think I might mix some mug rugs in for my non-quilty friends!! XX!
ReplyDeleteThose are some seriously cute scraps - love the little pincushions, and the project bags. Out of curiousity, where do you get crushed walnut shell from? I have never heard of using it to stuff pincushions before? Wondering if it is a regional thing or if any Aussies have also used it?
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see that bowl filled with wee pin cushions!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I finished my sweater this week and am wearing it today. But no pics, I'm afraid. You'll just have to take my word for it at the moment. :P
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a sewing 'candy' dish! The pin cushions are adorable. :) And I really like how handy the WIP bags are, such a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteReally crazy! (@.@)
ReplyDeleteI love the project bags -- will you be sharing the how-to?
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a bowl full of pin cushions. I might have to borrow that idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info about the walnut shells. I never would have considered a pet store. I've used the fine sand in my pincushions before - they do leave a little dust after they've been used for awhile. What is the advantage of the walnut shells vs. sand?
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about the WIP bags- so much better than a pile of plastic grocery bags and it will cut down on ironing every time you return to a project.
Looks awesome! Do you have a tutorial for your WIP bags? I'd love to whip (ha, bad) up some of my own.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog via a FaceBook post by Bonnie Hunter. How funny that you've been doing a Finish It Up Friday for a very long time. I (independently) started a Finish It Friday post on my blog last year in January. Thought I was being original! Haha! I've found other similar ideas since then and now yours! I may have to do the linky thing with yours, well if I can ever get to be consistent with mine!
ReplyDeleteCan hardly wait for your project pouch pattern....I love the ones I purchased before Christmas but I need about 50 more! Your bean bags - oops - pin cushions are adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love your pincushions and the WIP bags. You are so inspiring, I look forward to all of your posts.
ReplyDeleteahahahaha! Love the pin cushion candy bowl! Every house should have one!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I'd like the zipper moved to one end so the blocks could slide in easily.
ReplyDeleteYou're a funny girl Ms. Crazy! Love those cute pincushions -- and of course the project bags -- I'm seeing some of those in my future!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented!

I so wish I was your friend so I could pick a cushion from your candy dish! These are all just so adorable!
ReplyDeleteAnd there's nothing like hand knit socks! Love them!
Little pincushions make great hostess gifts, too--especially on those vacations to the home country where you are sleeping at one relative's or friend's house after another. Everyone appreciates something handmade, so much more when it's happy and beautiful!
