Welcome to finish it up Friday!
There hasn't been a ton of sewing going on here this week, but I managed to make 3 more WIP bags. I've made 7 total so far and I'm almost done tweaking the construction. Hurray for that! Now I just need to figure out all the sizes. All in the name of product development. :) Maybe all 20-something of my projects will have cute bags by the time I'm done writing the pattern!
This is the smallest WIP bag that I've made so far, finishing at 8". Isn't it cute??? I still haven't run out of my stash of zippers. AMAZING!
Another small finish for the week...I turned these two tiny orphan blocks into pin cushions. (I use crushed walnuts for the filling, because it adds a nice weight. They could probably double as bean bags, just don't tell my kids that!)
I thought it would be fun to fill this whole bowl with pin cushions. Then, when friends come over, they can take their pick. It'll be like a candy dish for the sewing room! Hahahaha! It's going to be so fun to make a bunch! They don't call me crazy for nothing! :)

ReplyDeleteI love the zipper pouches but how do you like the zipper being in the middle rather than closer to one side? Is it more or less hard to operate that way?

Don't think I did not notice the reverse polka dots on the zipper portion of the white and red polka dot bag! So cute! And to have a bowl of pin cushions...that would also be a nice take away from one of your upcoming classes too.

ReplyDeleteThose WIP bags are nice, but with my luck I'd need a WIP bag to put unfinished WIP bags in. ;) I love the pincushions too. Super cute. Maybe that's what I should make with my smaller orphan blocks. Where do you get your crushed walnut shells? Do you just eat a bunch of walnuts, or can I buy them that way?

ReplyDeleteI buy the crushed walnut shells at a larger pet store. they usually use them as lizard litter. One large bag makes a TON of pin cushions. I hope that helps!

I just began a little basket in my living room where I've been adding little sewing projects (potholders and coasters so far) for visiting friends to choose from. I like your pincushion idea!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the info about the walnut shells. I never would have considered a pet store. I've used the fine sand in my pincushions before - they do leave a little dust after they've been used for awhile. What is the advantage of the walnut shells vs. sand?

I (independently) started a Finish It Friday post on my blog last year in January. Thought I was being original! Haha! I've found other similar ideas since then and now yours! I may have to do the linky thing with yours, well if I can ever get to be consistent with mine!

Little pincushions make great hostess gifts, too--especially on those vacations to the home country where you are sleeping at one relative's or friend's house after another. Everyone appreciates something handmade, so much more when it's happy and beautiful!
