I finished my scrappy trip quilt top!!! I (only) made 20 blocks, so it measures 48" x 60". I usually prefer larger lap quilts, but at some point you gotta call it a day and move on to the next idea. I love the color scheme I went with. So cheery and fun!
I had a few blocks that were troublesome during the layout process. I thought about scrapping those 2 blocks altogether, but before setting them aside, I thought I should try to rearrange things.
here's the block before....
and the block after.
I took the block apart (only one seam!) and rearranged the two halves. Lining up all the navy squares in one diagonal line was more pleasing than having them disjointed. I repaired the other block in a similar fashion and I was able to use both of them after all! Hurray!
I even found time to fold up all the leftovers and tuck them back into my stash. It feels great!

Happy Monday to you!
I knew you would get wrapped up in that Quilt Along!
It´s wonderful and your name on the quilt is perfect! :-)
What a gorgeous quilt. I am fascinated by the fabrics you used to achieve that effect! Wonderful !
I made 36 blocks and love my quilt! Waiting for my backing and then off to be quilt. I took apart a few blocks too nd ended up with 2 that will go on the back...couldn't count after all!
I like the way your quilt looks. The fabrics are really fun.
I'm working on a Scrappy Trip quilt too but only have 16 blocks. Now I need to decide whether to dig around for enough fabric to add 4 more blocks or just add some borders to make it bigger.
Awesome! Where is the "like" button? ;)
Of course you anaylzed and fixed two blocks - that is what it's PERFECT!
I really have got to make one of these! I just love them. I really love your palette.
gorgeous!!!! it turned out so beautiful, love all the colors you used.
It turned out fabulous! One of the cutest versions I've seen.
That has to be my favourite of these scrappy quilts, I love how the colours tone
Beautiful! I love the colors.
It's awesome! I love your colors also! I'm afraid if I tried to make one of these that it would end up WAY too scrappy! I do agree with having the dark fabric run down the middle.
Love seeing that chopped rhubarb in action! It turned out wonderful.
Oh, what perfect timing to find your post today. I just finished getting mine all cut out today, and I folded my fabrics back as I went this time, so as to avoid the usual mess I have when I'm through.
I hope mine comes out looking as good as yours ! I even went through and chose all my 'sixes'.
I've cut more pastels, and put my strongest color through the center on most of the blocks. I hope mine comes out looking as good as yours !
Love the colours in this quilt, I've been resisting getting involved in this "trip" but the more quilts I see the more I want to make one myself.
These are such fun colors.
Wish it was the right season where I could get some real, fresh chopped rhubarb to cook with. I have had enough winter.
It looks just great. I can't believe you could take apart just one seam and sew it back up for such a different look! Wow!
Wonderful quilt! Love the colors and the size!
A really pretty piece, yet again!
I envy your pile of green fabrics. No pun intended. I just can't seem to gather the right green fabrics together. The ones in my stash always seem a little...off. I've not given up on it yet. :)
What a beautiful quilt. And I love the fact that you have folded and stacked all the leftovers. That would make a good resolution for me!
Smiling from ear to ear and admiring how smart you are to undo a single seam to get a totally different look to the block. :-)
Nicely done! Love your color choices and pattern play! Very attractive and also a catchy name!
It looks great! :)
You were right to move that navy - it really did improve the block. The blocks I made would need more than that to improve them. lol
Looks great! I have 20 blocks at the moment, I'd really love to get to 36 but I think I might lose my mojo before then...might have to settle for 25...
Beautiful colours! And it really does look like chopped rhubarb. You are such an inspiration. Maggie xx
I did. I started it. I had some fat quarters of Flea Market Fancy, and I just went crazy and cut them all up. Yes, I did. I have seven blocks made, strips sewn together for five more, and strips cut for 11 more. That's all I could get out of the FQs. Anyway, enough about me. ;) I love the colors you chose and, of course, am very impressed with how quickly you put the top together. Loving it.
That is a fantastic quilt!! Love the mix of colours you used!
I finally caved and now have strips all cut and one block made. Love your colors! Seems the blocks look best when the darkest color runs through the middle.
Very cheery quilt looks lovely!
I love all of the wonderful colors you used! It amazes me that a scrappy version of this pattern works, but it totally does!! Great finish!
Amanda Jean it's beautiful!!!
Great colors! I just started one of these myself. I can see how it would be addicting!
Fascinating how reordering the block can make such a difference visually. The finished quilt looks wonderful.
Your controlled color way is just fantastic! Makes me want to dig into my stash and start my scrappy trip NOW! Love your ideas, keep 'em coming, please.
WOW. How long before you figured out what to do to "fix" it? I have some quilts in the "in process" containers because I gave up before I figured it out!
looks amazing. Love the colours!
I LOVE THIS!
LOVE the results and how smart is that? A single seam fix. Love it!
Love your color combination. Oh, and can I say it again--thanks for teaching me to chop rhubarb--for reals!! So anyway, that was brilliant to change those two blocks. I would never have thought of that. I'm glad I did the solid version but I really want to do a scrappy version. Yours is really cheery. Isn't it funny how things catch on over at Instagram. I was just telling my friend that now it's like the trip-a-long is so "last week" because this week everyone is doing the cross-X block. *sigh* I can't keep up....
I love how yours turned out and I think you picked the perfect name!
Beautiful! I wish you would give more instructtion on fabric selection. Did you place fabrics by value? Make selections based on color? I'm new to your blog but I find I want to make all of your quilts.
You even packed away your fabric? Wow - I'm totally impressed!! LOVE this quilt - great colour choice and placement. I just want to copy everything that you do!!
I love your version!!
