i've been painting trim and doors for 7 days and boy am I cranky! there is still so much to do. i feel like i'm in painting purgatory.
last night after my kids went to bed and my husband was at work, i treated myself to some quilting time. (there has been so little quilting time lately, which is making me even more cranky.) this is my super scrap happy quilt. the top is still in several sections that i need to fit together, but i am really loving it! LOTS of time invested in this baby. it's a medium lap size now, so i might keep going and make it a bit bigger. (it's all constructed in slabs, as described in sunday morning quilts.)
i've all but emptied the bowl and bin of scraps that i designated for this project. hurray for progress!
just to clarify, i'm not running out of scraps. not even close! :)
on saturday i will be one of the featured artists on the river falls art crawl. i'll be doing a trunk show at riverside quilting in river falls. i'll also be doing a book signing and selling copies of the book...and perhaps some other goods, too. if you are in the area i'd love it if you would stop in and say hello! the hours are 10am-4pm.
last saturday i went to a quilt show in hastings, mn. 300 quilts were displayed in the sanctuary of St. Luke's. it was absolutely beautiful. both vintage and new quilts were draped over the back of all the pews. it was spectacular.
hands down my favorite quilt at the show was made by Ann Mayhew. it was made of pinwheels and shoo fly blocks that finished at 1.5"! it was absolutely stunning.
it was made from all solids, which i loved. it had a total of 23,808 pieces. wowza. it only took her 3 years! i must meet this woman someday.

I'm sorry you are in painting purgatory! It's so different when you are painting to sell instead of painting to keep. :(. That vintage quilt is amazing!

Oh my I am feeling your painting pain. I just did my bedroom last weekend and was not a happy camper. Now that it's done it just shows that the rest of the house really needs it too!

I have Sunday Morning Quilts and have been thumbing through it (again) to see what I should make first!
As I know you can relate--I should finish some of the other projects I have, but that doesn't seem to be the way it goes!
OH and what a fabulous venue for a quilt show-in a church like that!! beautiful.

The quilts over the pews was really beautiful to see. When my mother passed, we put all of the 12 grandchildren's quilts she had made for them, over the pews in the back of the sanctuary. It was wonderful. Lots of happy memories. BTW I totally hate to paint. I am so sorry for you. Hope you get out of purgatory soon.

ReplyDeleteAnd am I reading right, those blocks are 1.5" square? Oh my gosh - that's insane!! But absolutely gorgeous!! I understand why it was your favorite....
I am not allowed to paint anymore after I fell off a stepstool, and the paint can went flying. We had to replace the carpet and quickly wipe off the paint spatters from the furniture. Now my DH lets me hire someone!

The must be something about the threat of that having an effect on my quilting as I've quilted 4 quilts this week like I'll never see the light of my sewing machine again :-)

ReplyDeleteI've been in the preparing house for market mode..YUK! It is just like remodeling..once a person fixes one thing everything else looks bad so it has a terrible snowballing effect!! Thankfully the kids sound like they are on board. Prepare yourself..we looked at a house the other day and there was no room for a sewing room. Once I pointed that out to hubby he suddenly realized we wouldn't be buying that house!

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to mention... the house next door to us just went on the market today. They had it up for about a year and a half, then took it off. Went back up today... How crazy would that be.. LOL Nice house, 4 bedrooms I think. Nice yard... Good neighbors... ;)

ReplyDeleteI am sorry I missed the quilt show in Hasting. I live in Red Wing, so it is very close to me! That picture of the church is how I want the church to look like at my funeral. I want everyone I have made quilts for to bring them to my funeral, and drape the pews with them, instead of sending flowers. I hope the house selling and moving process goes smoothly. Welcome back to MN!
