so many options

Last week while my kiddos were out of the house for a few days I was able to get some serious quilting done. It felt so good! One of the quilts that I was able to baste and quilt was my low volume one. One advantage to this quilt was the easy thread choice for quilting. Using white was a no-brainer. It blended with all the fabrics so nicely. What a bonus!

Now it's time to choose a binding fabric. I am quite on the fence, so I thought I'd ask you for your two cents.
Choice A,  1934 by Cosmo Cricket for Moda

Choice B, Baby Talk by David Walker for Free Spirit

Choice C, Building Blocks by American Jane Patterns-Sandy Klop

Choice D, Basic Grey/eva for Moda

Choice E, Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup for Henry Glass (I believe it's Barbara....the selvage edge of the fabric I have just starts with Jones, but i'm fairly certain it's Barbara Jones...)

Choice F, Red Gingham (woven) by Moda, which I would cut on the bias.

Oh, I should probably add, the backing is made up of 3 panels of these fabrics....

So, what binding fabric would YOU choose?

  2. My vote....chice A.
    Close second though is D!

    ReplyDelete
  3. "F" all the way... nice strong print makes a great anchor... and that's my two cents worth!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I like the red gingham - it adds a lovely contrast!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Love your quilt. I like A or F for the binding. Either one. Will go nicely with the back fabrics since all three have a touch of red.

    Great job!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. A or F definitely :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. I like E because it has the same feeling as the quilt, but if you are looking for a 'solid' look binding to frame your quilt, I'd go with A or F.

    red gingham for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'd go for a colorful border... Both the Cosmo and gingham looks great.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'd choose A first or F second.

    ReplyDelete
  11. first choice - A
    second choice - F
i think it needs to be a red fabric. looks good!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Red gingham, absolutely. (Also, thanks for posting this. I feel very silly when I struggle with binding choice, and it's good to see a pro's process!)

  16. I would choose A or F, definitely sth with red. (Now I´ll read the other comments)

    ReplyDelete
  17. i really like A and E. mostly A. :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Either of the reds - but I prefer the gingham. (A is the very close 2nd!)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'd say F, although A is a close second!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would choose A it looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  21. A, B or E. Give you a good contrast from the others.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It is a tie between A and D. Though if you go with the red that is a LOT of red on the back, and I'm thinking a contrasting color with those panels would be nice...

    ReplyDelete
  23. i like the first red one - A

    ReplyDelete
  24. definitely one of the reds! A or F. Either one would be fantastic!

  28. Choice A, 1934 by Cosmo Cricket for Moda

    ReplyDelete
  29. Choice A, 1934 by Cosmo Cricket for Moda I think it makes the red pop in the rest of the quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am rarely so decisive, but this time it's definitely A for me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love that orange piece you have on the back -- so I think my answer would be "none of the above" and use the orange for binding. Whatever you choose it sure looks like it'll be lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like E best because it has some white space and isn't too red as there's so much in the quilt ... but, that said, I also love F cos I'm a sucker for gingham :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like F, but I'd recommend cutting it on the bias because it's really hard to keep plaids straight.

    ReplyDelete
  34. F. The red gingham pops.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Darcy2:57 PM

I love the red gingham on the bias!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gingham on the bias is a winner for me!! Have fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. choice A....love the brightness that it adds and it highlights the lighter fabric well...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous3:19 PM

I would do A or E. I like bringing out the red in the quilt, but not too much (F is too much).

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous3:27 PM

    I like E or D best.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love the red choices...either one would be great!

    ReplyDelete

  45. i agree with all that f is the best choice

    ReplyDelete
  46. A,B or F work the best in my opinion. Either one will work.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The first one, by a mile!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Either A or F. Definitely one of the reds :D

    Julie G

    ReplyDelete
  49. i love A or F the reds in those set of the quilt so nicely and would look great with the backing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Definitely B, but I'd let you get away with F ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  51. A or B - lovely quilt - from what I can see. Can't wait to see the whole thing

    ReplyDelete
  52. I like A the most.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love the POP of choice A!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love A and F-- can't go wrong with red. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. red gingham!!!!!! =D

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like A and D.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I vote for A or F and on the bias. I love a check on the bias!

    ReplyDelete
  59. My first choice would be A, but if you want to keep with the low volumn theme, I would choose E..... It was fun seeing how my choices compared to others' :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Definitely A. Runner up is E.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I like A the best also! E is my second choice!!! Happy finishing!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anonymous4:14 PM

Choice F! I was on the fence the whole time I was scrolling- all of them looked lovely- but the red gingham is PERFECT! Great way to finish off a great quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Door A! Great Quilt, as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Choice F, the gingham.

    ReplyDelete
  65. red - either the first or the gingham!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I just have to say A :)
My second choice would probably be B, but I'd have to check it against the backing prints, as I'm not sure whether it would good with the green in the one on the left.

    ReplyDelete
  67. All the way with F !

    Hugs,

    ReplyDelete
  68. They are all wonderful - but I would go with Cosmo Cricket...that fabric feels perfect as it draws the red out of the quilt and has a bit of a vintagey feel as well.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Voting A or F - love the red with your quilt

    ReplyDelete
  70. I really like choice F the red gingham =D

    ReplyDelete
  71. Choice A or Choice F - the quilt really wants red!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Red is my favorite color but I actually think B will work best. If not that, then F,

    ReplyDelete
  73. A looks great - I love the red!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Joanna4:43 PM

I'd go with choice A or Choice F. I like the contrast of the red fabrics and top. More contrast than the greens.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Choice A is my favorite, Definitely !

    ReplyDelete
  76. Choice A all the way!

    ReplyDelete
  77. F - the red gingham for a little punch of color.

    ReplyDelete
  78. A is my fav, but F is great, too.

    ReplyDelete
  79. E and F aremy favorites. :0)

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous5:06 PM

    A ... It's just right :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. My Choice is A, closely followed by F!

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm a relatively new quilter and I'm SO relieved that I'm not the only one that's voting for "F"! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous5:21 PM

F is first choice; E is second. Any will look very nice!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I would go with F

    ReplyDelete
  85. I love the red gingham!

    ReplyDelete
  86. A or C...both coordinate with the fabric, but don't overpower your design.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I would go with Choice A or E. :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I would choose B, Baby Talk. Sometimes it's nice to have a more subtle binding.

    ReplyDelete
  89. B or D. The pattern is more muted and seems to go with the rest of your quilt. Glad to see it is hard for you to choose too! K-

    ReplyDelete
  90. A or F :). This is going to look awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  91. F! Love the gingham and cutting it on the bias will be beautiful! Looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  92. "A" pops really nicely! Keeps it spicy!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Lovely! I would go with E if I was matching to the back or A or F if it made the rest of the red on the quilt 'pop'.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Anonymous5:56 PM

So I'm bucking the trend and going with D. No doubt red gingham on the bias (otherwise known as F) is a beautiful option, but after going back and looking at the larger pictures of your "low-volume quilt" I really like the look of D and the continuation of that lovely low-key feel.

    ReplyDelete
  95. L vote for choice A.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I vote for B, although I do love F as well. Gorgeous quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I like F, the red gingham the best. Kept coming back to it after looking at the others a few times. Love this quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Choice A for me. Almost a blender with yor other fabrics but pretty enough to make a great binding!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I'm a teacher; I don't like it when students earn "Fs," but you've done it. The bias element will rock it!

    ReplyDelete
  100. The red gingham would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Great quilt! I would choose fabric A and maybe cut it on the bias.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I vote A, although I like b as well

    ReplyDelete
  103. A or F. Either would be great. can't wait to see the whole quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Anonymous6:26 PM

Your quilt is beautiful :)Definitely A!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I vote for choice A

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hi! I really like the way Choice A pops next to the other fabrics and it goes well with the back fabrics. My next choice would be "D". That green just blends so nicely! Cristina

    ReplyDelete
  107. A, B, or F! Beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Brenda in Manitoba6:49 PM

I vote for F - the gingham. It will be a good contrast - both in color and by being on the bias - so it won't be lost in the rest of the quilt. It will frame it nicely. Also, all the backing fabrics have red om them, so it ties in there, too.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Gingham would be so cute! Glad you had a sewing day all to your lonesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. B! I love the soft green with those colors.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Mary P6:56 PM

    A or B

    ReplyDelete
  112. A because the red is bright and has enough white to tie it to the rest of the quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Circa, circa, circa! (imagine that being chanted). They're all actually cool but either of the reds will add just the right amount of ZING. :)

Happy for you to have much sewing time!

    ReplyDelete
  114. hmmm, either A or F :)
i'm a bit jealous of your quiet sewing time :)

    ReplyDelete
  115. I'm not usually a huge red fan but I love the A fabric. Really frames the quilt. I also like the idea of f on the bias.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Choice A is perfect. Dark enough to halt the eye and send it back the other way, yet not to solid either, if you know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Ooh, so many choices! I like option A the most.

    ReplyDelete
  118. can we have A on the bias? E then, with a pop of red flowers behaving like polka dots if you cut it carefully. Love the quilt, started considering my own collection of low volume prints. Thanks for showing it to us. Oh and my copy of the book is much coveted here in Wellington New Zealand.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I like choice A, but you can tell, I'm not a low volume kind of gal!

    ReplyDelete
  120. My choice is A - it is just the right choice. D could work too - but I was concerned about the name Basic Grey - it looks green to me - so choose A

    ReplyDelete
  121. Of course, the first one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I think F, though to be totally honest, none really sang out to me...

    ReplyDelete
  123. A is my choice, makes the fabrics pop more than the others.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anonymous7:55 PM

Choice A!!! I absolutely love it!

    ReplyDelete
  125. I like A or E best - but all are pretty!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. A or F are my favorite... I'm always partial to red though!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I'm a red girl. I love the shot of red! F would be my first choice, and A would be my second. It's a fab quilt no matter what you choose.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Anonymous8:15 PM

Not many people seem to ever agree w/my choices, but I love A!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anonymous8:15 PM

It's gotta be a red! I like the heavier feeling of F.

    ReplyDelete
  130. A or F. Or F or A........ How about half A and half F......

    ReplyDelete
  131. I am partial to the Cosmo Cricket.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I love B best, but F could work wonderfully too! Whatever you choose will suit it, I'm sure! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  133. I think A or F look the best.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I love the way A brightens it up!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I love the red gingham!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I would go with A or C. A if you want something to Pop. C if you want it to blend. Cheers Karen www.madewithmytwohands.blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  137. Anonymous9:10 PM

    A or F

    ReplyDelete
  138. I like F the best, but A would be my second choice. I like my binding to add a bit of contrast to the quilt. :-)

    Caryn

    ReplyDelete
  139. At first I was going to say E...until I saw F. F. Definitely F.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I think you have to decide if you want the binding to blend or contrast. I like F then A.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Definitely F. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I like choices B or C if you want to stay with the calm, neutral tones of the quilt. If not, the I like choice A.

    ReplyDelete
  143. A or F for sure :-) I'd probably lean toward the gingham (F).

    ReplyDelete
  144. Well, it seems like everyone else wants A....but I really like B. The red pops, but the blue just sort of mellows everything out and lets you concentrate on the quilt instead of the binding.

I'm also enchanted with E. Love those flowers!...but the white background keeps it subtle.

Can't wait to see what you pick - which I'm sure will be the very best choice!

    ReplyDelete
  145. I LOVE B! But A would be my second choice. : )

    ReplyDelete
  146. F looks great, or maybe B.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I would choose F. I do like taking pictures to help make a choice. I often take pictures when arranging fabrics for quilts. I do love this quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I would choose A or F. I think both would look fabulous with the backing fabrics & the front of the quilt... :) Of course I love how bright the red is too :)

    ReplyDelete
  149. Choice 'A' would be my first choice. It makes all the other fabrics come alive.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I would choose the D if you want a more equal or F if you want to give it more life.

    Good job!

    ReplyDelete
  151. I too like A the best.

    ReplyDelete
  152. First of all, too many choices.
Stay low volume with the binding as well.mi choose b, even though I like the idea of red binding, red just feels too obviousness

    ReplyDelete
  153. I would go with A or F.

    ReplyDelete
  154. A or F...I do love gingham. Have fun with your choice!

    ReplyDelete
  155. I would choose A. I love the pattern

    ReplyDelete
  156. 'B' would give it a soft look

    ReplyDelete
  157. Whoa! I had to scroll through so many comments to get here! And I vote for A or F - but I'm an unashamed red girl.

    ReplyDelete
  158. For a "calm" finish I'd go for B and for a livelier version, definitely A.

It would be a lovely one anyway ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  159. Hands down, it has to be either A or F.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Anonymous5:32 AM

For my 2 cents, I'd say definitely A or F (and F is probably my preference)...a cent either way!!! I can't wait to see this quilt finished.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I think the red binding makes the other colors pop. My personal fav is F.

    Mary Ann

    ReplyDelete
  162. Anonymous6:03 AM

B to keep the volume low. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  163. The letter is EEE.

If you want the quilt to 'pop' out. It actually jumped out to me.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Anonymous6:39 AM

    Choice A

    ReplyDelete
  165. Anonymous6:57 AM

Okay, I'll throw in my two cents, too. Choice A all the way :)

    ReplyDelete
  166. I like E as a first choice; A second. They are a strong compliment to the front and also blend with the back as well.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Choice A...D came in second, and F third :)
Looks like it will be very pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I vote Choice B, Baby Talk by David Walker for Free Spirit, because it's soft and blends in well ...

    ReplyDelete
  169. Definitely A. It has the red which lifts the quilt but it still has plenty of white in keeping with the white in the quilt. More sophisticated than the gingham.

    ReplyDelete
