rolling stone quilt top

I finished my rolling stone quilt top on Saturday.
It's BIG! About 68" x 90".
Now I need to figure out how to quilt it.
Any ideas? Anyone?

    I love this one!
Can't help with ideas for quilting as I have no idea for myself other than straight lines! :)

Beautiful! I'm quilting my latest with free motion "bubbles" and am loving the texture it's adding.

  5. This is a fun quilt! As far as ideas for quilting - I was taught (back in the prehistoric times) that curvy quilting goes with geometric and visa/versa.
But, I can also see the rolling stone pattern being repeating in the solid squares. And, maybe a half rolling stone in the triangle areas, with stitch in the ditch on the white rolling stones.

    I dunno...just a few thoughts. =)

  6. Wow! You unplugged the internet and plugged in the sewing machine!

For some reason I think this quilt wants special quilting rather than an all-over design. But I could be totally wrong. I think those big squares are begging for some attention. Maybe a large diamond shape or a "snowflake" of sorts might do well in the blank squares. I would probably do some simple echo or SID quilting around the stones.

It will be striking no matter how it's quilted!

  9. Great finish Amanda!! I think the crosshatch design would look nice. I know whatever you choose will look wonderful!!

  10. Wow, that was a fast finish! And a fabulous finish too. I love how this turned out. Maybe you could do concentric circles, sewing through the center diamond/square and making each circle a little bigger. I'm trying to think of something that would make each block pop. Maybe echo quilting around each block. Have fun!

  11. Oh, I like how you put them on point! When in doubt - as I always am - go with meandering! But maybe the solid squares would look good with concentric circles?

    Beautiful!!

  12. Another great one. Love the big blocks. I should try big blocks so I can actually finish a quilt! Ha! No ideas on the quilting other than maybe some medallion/feature (I have no idea what to call it) quilting in the negative space blocks.

  16. Beautiful!
Yes those big empty squares are calling for something special....I wouldn't do an overall pattern on it. But of course I would turn it over to my longarm quilter, Debby Brown, and let her do her magic on it!

    Very nicely done :0)

  17. This turned out great. Those soft colors really pop in that blue background. Good fabric choices.

  18. Love the dark background! I've never seen this block before, and I really like it.

  19. The setting squares are begging for something individual in each one. That is, not an all over quilt design, but something in each setting square, then all over. In a thread that matches the teal.

  20. Wow! Can't wait to see how you quilt it! I probably would echo the diamond shape out of the center of the each of the blocks. Of course, that is a lot of thread to work in.

  21. Echo quilting might work well for this or a cool zig-zag pattern perhaps?

I'm holding a small swap over at my blog if anyone is interested please pop over for a look =D

  22. Nice topper! It's simple yet unusual: that teal background makes it so different. This is the kind of quilt that would grow on me more each year: simple yet very beautiful.

Don't ask me for quilting advice: I always think up complicated things that would take years to accomplish. :) Hopefully your other commenters have great ideas up their quilty sleeves!

  24. What a fun quilt! I see a diagonal cross hatch over the whole quilt! Maybe a lime green thread color ;o)

  25. What a unique quilt. Unlike anything I've ever seen you do. I think you should quilt some kind of swirl or circular stippling on all the blue and leave the squares alone. Or just trace around them. Something simple to make them pop even more.

Is there a quilting stitch to emulate moss? As in "a rolling stone gathers no moss"?

  27. Quilt it either in a quilting hook or old fashioned quilting frame. Too big to machine quilt

  40. Wow super quick. I like the blue background colour.

  41. Great quilt top. I especially love that shade of blue for the background. I am sure you will come up with the perfect way to quilt this.

  42. I think that an orange thread would be a great complement to the blue top and the green backing. As for the pattern!?! I am not sure, you could go with a great flower or one of my favourites, pebbles in varying sizes. Can't wait to see what you come up with. This quilt has a lot of open space to play with.

  43. LOVE it! No clue how to quilt it, but it is awesome!

  44. It is so pretty! I like the idea of echo quilting, but it would be tricky turning it in the machine I think...

  45. Awesome! I love the color and the design is awesome!

  46. Spirals in each block I think - to get those stones rolling!

  47. The teal background sets off the stones exquisitely giving them an impression of motion.
