Today I only have 2 little things to share....I made myself a GIANT pin cushion yesterday. I put the rotary cutter in the photo for scale. It's 7" square! It's made from scraps I had laying around and it's simply filled with stuffing. Adding the buttons (top and bottom) was the trickiest part. I just LOVE it!
And this little baby....oh, it was a LONG time coming! I have had this idea for what feels like forever. I keep my spare bobbins in this little tin can. (The can was probably originally from diced green chilis, so it's tiny-only 2" tall!) My plan was to cover it with a fabric sleeve of some sort. Yesterday I finally jumped in and made it up as I went along. I free motion quilted the word on linen (backed with batting, for stability)...it took me about 12 tries to get it to look good! I cut away the excess batting, trimmed the linen down to size. Then I pieced scraps to put around the linen and around the perimeter of the can. This is one of the sides....
Here's a detail shot of the back....isn't it darling??
It's constructed very similar to a coffee cozy. It turned out so SO MUCH cuter than I had imagined it would be. I absolutely LOVE it! Getting this project off my mental list feels soooooooooooo good!!!
Now it's your turn! Please link up your Friday finish here and so we can cheer each other on in our finishes! Thanks so much for those of you who link up and join in. And to those of you who don't, hey, thanks for reading! :) Happy Friday!
Your little can cover is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI posted my first finish of 2012 yesterday. Probably the first time I've ever been early for anything!
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'll have something to link next week.

Love your projects. That bobbin can is so adorable, I think I'll have to save a can and make one myself--right after the mug rugs I've been putting off.

ReplyDeleteI have a large pincushion almost just like that I made a few years ago...I love the size of it...lots and lots of pins and needles and safety pins and sewing machine needles!!! LOTS!
ReplyDeleteThe bobbin can sleeve is darling.
such a great idea!!! LOVE the cover!
ReplyDeleteWhat great little projects! They help in giving you a sense of accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteFabulous finishes for the week! I love the idea of a giant pincushion, especially such a cute one. That way, you don't have to be so careful when taking pins out while sewing. Great way to use tiny scraps too. I love how you decorated your bobbin tin with a cozy wrap! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI love the bobbin can, it really is adorable.
ReplyDeleteTwo VERY sweet projects!
ReplyDeleteit really is a great way to store bobbins. i bet you smile every time you see it!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love that big pincushion!! How many pins do you have?!!
ReplyDeleteGreat finishes! I need to make more little stuff for myself so I can enjoy the stuff I make more. I have a finish but it's not posted to my blog yet. I will be back later. Thanks for hosting, I have so much fun looking at others finishes each week. Smiles~Beth
ReplyDeleteThey are both so cute!!! The bobbin can is very clever! Happy Friday!!
ReplyDeleteThat bobbin can is so smart! And what a cute cover you made for it! I love that you are always coming up with something original.
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute, Amanda Jean! Love the can cover particularly - so creative!! I wish I had a finish to post today, but unfortunately not. Maybe next week!
ReplyDeleteUm, it's beyond cute! Would ya mind if I borrowed your idea? My bobbins are breeding and taking over my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteGreat job...love the satisfaction of quick gratification with small projects!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have a question...I add my link to your party, but then don't see my link added. This happened last week too. I checked on last weeks since it is closed, and still my link does not appear...I've even refreshed the page.
ReplyDeleteI only see 26 entries so far this week and 42 entries for last week...am I missing something?
Love your finished projects, what a fantastic idea. That can cover is absolutely adorable. Now I want to make one, thanks for sharing these beauties.
ReplyDeleteI linked up with a project I made for my nephews for Christmas. :) It's tough finding time to sit at the sewing machine these days.
ReplyDeleteYour pin cushion is delightful... and that sleeve for the bobbin bin is clever as can be. Makes me want to look around and quiltify them.
ReplyDeleteGreat can cover, a must try for me.
ReplyDeleteSeem to be losing some of the links on the far right side.
Both are so cute!
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else having trouble accessing the links that are posted? I can see the numbers 33-43, but the link is not displaying next to them. It appears to be due to a page layout issue. Bummer!
FYI -- Having the same problem as above -- can't see the links past #30.
ReplyDeleteI just love BIG pincushions and I especially love yours. Also love the idea of a bobbin tin....not to mention covered!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use your scraps! The bobbin thing is fun.
ReplyDeleteThat bobbin can is too cute! I may just have to have a play at making one of these!
ReplyDeletelove your bobbin cup cozy...very cute
ReplyDeleteMy closest friend and I use the term "dropped my bobbins" for losing our minds just a smidge. So now, officially, you have a super cute can to keep from "dropping your bobbin"!
ReplyDelete;0)
Love it!
So cute! Does the pink and black paisley come from your scrap bag? If so, it came from my house! :)
ReplyDeleteI had planned to post my Friday finish but no one will be able to see it... oh well. Maybe next week. Will try to post early. :(
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your pin cushion!!!! It is SOOO cool!!!!
ReplyDeleteFunny! I keep my bobbins in an empty tuna can. (It's clean!) I love the cover you made and the giant pincushion too.
ReplyDeleteAs a side note, I have decided that scraps are like bunnies...they multiply even (especially?) in the dark. I discovered this today when I attempted to clean my office. It was tidy for about two hours and then I got busy pulling out fabric again.
That can idea is genius!! I keep meaning to do up a cute little pin cushion like the one you made, but it never gets done... I need to get that on my list soon - it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteAdorable bobbin cover. I may just have to make a few coffee cozies like this. I made my 7" pin cushion as a Christmas gift to myself out of left over flannel.
ReplyDeleteI had to link up 2 links for this Friday! I had such an industrious week both quilting and general sewing. Thank you for the inspiration and nudge to get it done.
Love the little tin! That is so cute. I know what you mean about feeling good when you get something off the mental list!
ReplyDeleteAdorable projects for this week - especially that cute little bobbins tin!
ReplyDeleteFun and functional! Cute projects.
ReplyDeleteCute little things. I haven't blogged lately and didn't know you are doing this Finish It Up Friday....might be a good way for me to actually get some projects done. :)
ReplyDeleteToo Cute CrazyMom! Don't you love it when a plan comes together???
ReplyDeleteoh I love that little tin, AJ! I've been thinking for eons that I need a thread catcher and i like the idea of the tin better than the fabric catchers so the threads don't stick when you empty and put them in. I neeeeeeeed one of these!
ReplyDeleteNothing like a few new sewing accessories to get you all jazz up for more sewing.
ReplyDeleteToo cute!
i L-O-V-E your pincushion.....
ReplyDeletein case you need to know, i could let you know when my birthday is.... it will be soon enough - well....enough time for you to make a pincushion for me..that is.. hahhah
i love it.
I've made a couple of pincushions, and wasn't that happy with the outcome. must try again; i stuff mine with crushed walnuts & silica... apparently it sharpens the pins with use.
xoxo

Cute stuff! I just reorganized my sewing room. Put up shelves, put in a new cutting area cleaned up my stash, cut a bunch of scraps with my new Go! :0) Now I'm ready to settle in and sew, sew, sew!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous little creations ... just love the fabric colours!!!!
ReplyDeleteSurfing all the wonderful links. Is there a trick I am not seeing to check out 45 thru 64? I expanded the screen, but no names to click on.

ReplyDeleteboth so super SUPER cute!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the bobbin holder - I must finish something this week!
