this is my 600th post. i can hardly believe it. as a little thank you to you, my dear readers, i'm giving away a fat quarter of each of these prints. i'll pick a random name on monday evening, november 23. one entry per person please. since i like to leave a question for you to answer when i do a giveaway, i'd love it if you let me know what kind of christmas gifts you are making (or meaning to make) this year.

I'm making everyone flannel pillow cases either from the Riley Blake Christmas flannel or from the Anna Marie Horner Good Folks flannel. So far I have two sets done...but there's still plenty of time!

I love your blog!! I have so many of your quilts bookmarked to make. I haven't had time to really sew like I want but I love looking at all the ideas. For Christmas this year, I am planning on making aprons and chefs hats for my boys and nieces and Nephews. And for my siblings a yearly birthday calendar!!!

I'm traveling around Nepal up until the week of Christmas so it's looking like everybody might get a pashmina scarf this year. But the exciting thing is I scored bags full of Asian fabric scraps yesterday for less than a dollar! I'll be making a quilt to remind me of my time here.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school, my family and I were in a church pageant every summer. My mom had to make all of our pioneer costumes. She's always wanted a quilt made out of the leftover fabric, so I used your stacked coins tutorial to make one for her.

It's a set of one of those microwaveable heat therapy bags, plus a freezer bag, and a freezer eye mask. We'll see if I get around to it... :-)

Since I'm pregnant, I was planning to do no quilting for gifts this year... but it turns out that my husband's sister and also his brother are each expecting a baby too, I'm might give them a baby quilt for Christmas. Maybe I should wait until the baby showers!

For Christmas this year I have a long list, even though I am already behind I hope to get it all done. I am making a bag from charms packs for my sister (from your tutorial on Moda Bake Shop-love it!), several fleece pj bottoms, a fleece robe and hooded towels, muslin dolls for my girls and I hope to make a quilt for my neice and maybe one for my nephew. Wow I better get going on all this.

ReplyDeleteFor Christmas I am making two large quilts, three quiet books, a stationary/card set, a doll quilt, some doll clothes for an 18" doll, an apron, and a purse. That's what's in my head right now. Of course, I may add more as the time gets closer -- depending on how much I get finished -- maybe a bathrobe and/or one more quilt. = ) Go big or go home, that's what I say.

ReplyDeleteWell . . . this isn't really a christmas gift, per se, but all the girls are getting together in my family to make christmas stockings for our own families. The original intention was to buy stocking stuffers for everyone and stuff the stockings. However, we've changed our gift focus to spending time with each other, instead.

Each year for Christmas I like to make goodies for most everyone on my list. Since most people already have what they want I like to give sweet treats such as chocolate chip cookies, peanut brittle, fudge, sugar pecans…. I have done this for so long that it has become a tradition and everyone looks forward to receiving their package.
ReplyDeleteMost years I send my packages soon after Thanksgiving and am usually finished with the majority of them within a week which allows me more time for handmade/homemade gifts that I like to make for my kids. Each year I make the kids pajamas, which are given to them on Christmas Eve, so they will be wearing them during the Christmas morning photos.
I'm knitting hats and making calendars...so far. I always have great ambitions to do more, but always run out of time!

ReplyDeleteI am making three quilts, 5 crayon rolls, 2 colored pencil rolls, 5 stockings, 1 tree skirt, 1 garland, and a few baked goodies. So far, I have completed 4 stockings, 1 tree skirt, 1 garland, 1 quilt, and have one top ready to be quilted. I think I'm forgetting something, though.
I cut out my third quilt today and I am almost tired of quilting. If that's possible. Thanks for creating (in addition to your beautiful quilts) such an inspiring blog.

ReplyDeleteSince Sept. I've been making things and donating them to a holiday sale at a library: journals, mini notebooks with covers, key chains, pocket kleenex covers, selvage pincushions and pot holders, eye masks, a stuffed llama, luggage tags and more.
ReplyDeleteFor my family I'll be making luggage tags, sewing machine cover, journals, coffee sleeves, eye masks, pot holders. Mostly I'll use the fabric I already have, but I will treat myself to a few new pieces to spice things up.

Wow! 600 is amazing!! I have already completed most of my gifts, since they have to be shipped. Table runner for sister-in-law. Collection of lots of random little things for my sister (embroidered kitchen towels, camera case, patchwork notecards, belt, set of coasters, fabric covered file folders), sets of napkins/placemats/coasters for two friends, bib, and an easy-ish quilt for my mother with Anthro tablecloth for front and solid back with crocheted trim around the edge. I think that pretty much covers it!

ReplyDeletewow! you're on 600 while I'm at 60! I'm in the middle of a 9-patch (basically your quilt along that I never did way back then!) for my mother in law for Christmas. I also made some fabric wreaths from moda Bake Shop.

ReplyDeleteso here's my list of gifts to make: jalepeno jelly, hot mustard, and extremely hot sauce. crayon wallets. quilted notebooks. fleece scarves. and if i get around to it, an apron to give away at our annual cookie exchange! congrats on 600, you always inspire me and I can only imagine what great things are to come!

I'm making some Christmas Eve pajamas for my boys, as always. I have a knitted scarf in progress for my husband. Other than that, I plan to make a few small bags for my nephews and niece.

ReplyDeleteI am making a quilt for my toddler son (I just finished the top! It is my first quilt!), an elephant and set of bibs for my infant son, a set of coasters for both of my sisters and parents and coffee cozy's for each of them and maybe one of those desk/dresser organizers with snaps on it for my husband. I'm also embroidering our names on our (storebought) stockings and making Christmas candy and cookies to give away to friends and neighbors. Gingersnaps, pfefferniuss, peppermint bark, fudge and coconut balls. Phew! Writing it all out makes me tired!

Wow, 600!!! Congrats. My mom asked for a coupon holder, so I'll probably make her the one on the Moda Bake Shop website. I'm not quite sure if I'll make anything else this year since we're probably going to be so busy.

My secret Bee gift will be a fabric shopping/grocery bag. My bee friend loves batiks so that is what I will probably use. I do not need the stress of making too many gifts at Christmas. Ask me how I came to that conclusion.........

ReplyDeleteThis Christmas I have made 1 lap quilt for my SIL, 1 lap quilt and matching table runner for the MIL and another table topper, a table runner for Phil's Nana and 2 twin quilts for the boys. I am also finishing off a cross stitch for Gus and making some crayon rolls for Ollie and his mates and little cousin. I am also going to make a couple of change mats for my other SIL and cousin who are both expecting babies soon.
What are you making? How's the WIP pile coming?

I made a snowman wall hanging for each of my married kids that I plan on giving to them on Thanksgiving. I also plan on buying camp stoves to give them on Christmas

The only Christmas gift I am making this year is a stocking for the new granddaughter, It will continue the candycane theme for that daughter's family. It is a simple simplicity pattern and I have made it often, but it lends itself well to machine embroidery of the name and makes an ample sized gift holder.

Right now I am working on 3 little snowmen table toppers (called Holly in the Snow)for gifts plus a penny rug for my daughter. I really wanted to make a lap quilt for my step-daughter but I don't think it will happen this year!! Maybe for her birthday...? I also need to make 3 wool ornaments for my quilting friends so have to get that done tonight (Hopefully!!) as we are meeting Dec 1 for lunch. ReplyDeleteI have 4 table toppers pieced and ready to quilt which I will give to friends for Christmas. Last year after the holidays I picked up some unique carved candles with fun stands that really "wanted" to sit atop something fun and quilted!
Love the blue and green fabric! Some lucky winner will be thrilled!
this is a very low-cost Christmas for our family this year. I have 4 children and 2 in-law children. I decided for my married son to make "fun" placemats, 1 pair for each month to represent that month. I have most of the fabric in my stash to use. My married daughter is getting a denim rag quilt made for our old jeans. (i did have to pruchanse the flannel). My 2nd daughter is getting pillowcases out of favoritej things she loves, such as owls, skulls, shamrocks pirates...

ReplyDeleteI am currently trying my hand at making my own shirt patterns for my girls and I so I can make us matching shirts for a Christmas photo (eek! needs to get finished SOON!); I am finishing (quilting and binding left) a quilt for my parents, and if time I am making one for hubby and my SIL.
Congrats on your 600th post! I always look forward to your posts and you are one of the main online quilters that made me 'go for it' with quilting--I used to be held back by the 'rules' and intricate designs/buying 100s of dollars of fabric...now I get greater joy from making my own designs and finding material from outgrown clothes and a few splurges here and there! Thank you!!!
I've already made 20 blank cards using little photos from an old souvenir booklet from Pompeii. Easy, fun, prety quick.

ReplyDeleteI am making my nieces quilts out of Riley Blakes "be Merry" fabric. Same fabric, 2 different patterns. The most AWESOME thing is that I found fleece pajamas that coordinate with the fabric perfectly. How cool is that!?

ReplyDeleteThis year is the year of the quilt. Most family members are receiving quilts. A few have requested new stockings also. My kids are receiving new PJs.
Congratulations on your 600th post. . .Wow! I'm just trying to get to 100. . .Christmas projects, huh. Well, The new French General fabrics have given me alot of help. With the toweling, I've made dish towels and added trims to dress them up. Some cute placemats from the Figgy Pudding line. All goes into the gift baskets filled with homemade, canned goodies from our summer garden, stewed tomatoes, spaghetti sauce and peaches!

And right now, I'm thinking of making either your coin quilt on Moda Bake Shop or the circle quilt you just finished for two children. I'd like to knit a hat, make a Waldorf doll and pj's for my kids but not sure if those will get done. Never enough time!
I am making a new quilt in rich, Christmassy colors to go on the back of our couch. It's a gift for all of us as we snuggle together!

ReplyDeleteThis Christmas I am making a Christmas quilt for my parents (my first) - almost done - just have the binding left! Also two double layered fleece Broncos blankets for my brothers families, as well as a blanket for each of my babies (three under 3). Now you see why free fabric would be such a wonderful gift for me! :) I'd happily share some of the fudge and peppernuts I'm making for everyone else!

ReplyDeleteFor Christmas, I'm not sure I'll be able to make any gifts at all - still adjusting to life with a newborn and being a mother of two. But... if I can carve out some time, I'd like to make an apron for my step-mom and my mother-in-law. We'll see if I get to it!
Otherwise, I have a Christmas quilt that I've made for our family. The top is complete - just need to get it sandwiched and quilted - hopefully this week?
