9 patch update and misc.

why hello there! today is day 37 of the 9 patch quilt along. since i made 4 blocks tonight, my total is now at 41. i'm so thankful that you all are quilting along with me to keep me going!

i'm sure many of you have already seen that bee square fabrics is going out of business. boo-hoo! she's having a GREAT sale-more info here.

there is a placemat swap going on over on flickr hosted by sarah. (it's my first official swap ever! i'm a little nervous.)

also, I'M A QUILT WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woo-hoo!!!!

one more random thing...if you have ever ordered from ProFlowers, you may want to check your credit card statements. My husband bought me flowers for Valentine's Day from ProFlowers. since that time, our credit card was being charged monthly by Easy Saver at 14.95 a month!!! my husband called Easy Saver today and they said that the charges will be credited-(we'll see about that)-but holy cow!!! watch your statements! we are not the only ones this has happened to. i'm just hoping that if this has happened to you, you can catch it sooner rather than later.
(sorry about the bazillion links!)

  1. these quilts are great. i remember cold nights at my best friends house when i was a kid, and the only thing that i could use to keep me warm was that quilt his mom made. man that thing was warm!

  2. The creator of Proflowers is now a member of Congress. Makes you feel good that Congress is regulating credit cards, eh?

  14. Your 9-patch blocks look very nice; looking forward to seeing them stitched together in a quilt top. Wish I had time to participate in the quilt along but summers are so busy tending to the garden and other outdoor work that I spend very little time in the sewing room.

  15. so jealous you won the "beach" quilt! Enjoy it!

  16. Thanks for the QAD update -- I can hardly believe it, but I have finished exactly 37 blocks! I've mostly been doing them one or two a day, and I'm hoping that as random as they are, they'll come together nicely.

    Congrats on winning the quilt!

  17. Okay. I'm just a little behind on the nine-patch thing. This "one-a-day" thing obviously doesn't work well for me. I'm going to catch up, though -- hopefully before you're all done. = )

That string quilt is gorgeous! Ever since you posted about that other string quilt, I've been wanting to make one. Now, we both know I can't do that, right? Right? Congratulations. That's so fun!

Thank YOU for keeping US going. My nine-patches would otherwise just end up in a bin not to be heard of for several years. I vow this will not happen.

  18. I nearly fainted when I saw the word SALE, as my fabric diet ended on Monday!!! But I only have one week to buy some fabric and then I'm back on the diet. I think I'll be able to control myself, maybe? HA!

  19. The blocks look great! Seems you've done the ole proverbial...kick in the behind for some people! ha ha Sorry to hear about the credit card problems. I have to admit, I'm quite happy I don't use ProFlowers now. I've had credit card trouble one time and it was enough for me! Hope it all works out.

  20. Your nine patch quilt is coming along nicely! Love the color choices you have made. I think I need to post a progress report for my nine-patch quilt too!

Your blocks look fab! I love the happy colours. Hope to get photos of mine soon -- if I can keep children and toys out of the room long enough to spread blocks out on the floor! :-D Thanks for the inspiration. I think I'll go and sew some more right now! Take care, Dianne B. in England

  25. Thank you so much for mentioning the easy saver situation. I have looked at our statements and wouldn't you know, we have been charged too. We have had problems with proflowers sending wilted roses twice so I think this is it!
I love your quilts by the way. Thanks for sharing them and giving me inspiration to break out my fabric stash.

  26. you are always a winner :)
    Your squares looks great.
Your swap partner is going to be so happy to have you!

  27. Oh, please don't apologize for the links...that's how I find new blogs. I just put both the Mushyhed blog and House of Krom blog on my list of reads. There's so much to go back and catch up on on the Krom blog, and I loved seeing those quilty placemats! I'm a little behind on my 9-patches. I definitely need to get them up and posted! Thanks as always for your blog!

  29. Hi AmandaJean. Congrats on winning that beautiful quilt. It's a cool, rainy day here in IL today so I'm going to do some sewing. I need to make about 8 9-patches to catch up. Happy stitching!

  30. Your 9 patches are lovely - your quilt will be wonderful. Congrats on winning Chen's quilt - I love that one! Sorry to hear about the bogus charges - that really stinks and is a mess to clean up. : (

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good thing you guys caught it!!! WOW what a mess! I hate having to clean up after things like that! You patches look good. I'm going to get to 40 today before I leave tomorrow so that I won't have to play catch up when I get back.

  37. I´ve got 80 squares finished for my quilt-along, I´m making it one row wider. I can´t wait for the instructions for putting it togeather!! I have to finish two other quilts first though so I better continue sewing :)
    Congrats on winning the quilt!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. The 9-patches turned out awesome. Now as I cut fabric for other quilts - I try to remember to cut either 4 or 5 squares to make some 9-patch blocks.

I saw where you were a winner!!!

  39. The same thing happened to us with ProFlowers. My husband sent me flowers for valentines day and then two months later I noticed the charges.

On a good note, the company did give me back all of the money.

  40. Your nine patches are looking lovely.

Hey, thanks for all the links. Congrats on your win and good luck in your first swap.

  41. Whoo, I was worried there for a moment, my sewing area has been dismantled because we are remodeling the basement. I was doing about 14 a week to keep myself caught up. I am right on track and even a little over. Yea!!! Thanks for the update. I am hoping to keep up even with the machine on the dining room table.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I must have felt an update coming! :) I made a few more yesterday and am at 43. Yay! Making them in small batches works well for me.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh cow!! I was charged twice by Pro Flowers for an order I placed for my secret pal! I hope she doesn't read your blog :) My husband told me he received our bill and didn't know I had sent flowers to two people. I am looking up their number and calling right now! Thanks for the reminder.

u are making 70 blocks for a queen size, right?
i would like to know a rough number of the blocks i will need for a king size.
i will post new pictures tomorrow morning.

  47. Lucky duck! That string quilt is beautiful! Love your 9's :)

  48. Thanks for that tip on Proflowers. Not more then half hour ago my hubby had delivered to my office 12 dozen roses from Proflowers for our anniversary. They messed up the order and I am sure we will see that extra $14 on our credit card. But now we will know what it is and what to do about it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. francesca,

i am making 70 9 patches for a twin/single size bed. you will need about double that (approximately) for a king size, i would estimate off the top of my head. i hope that helps!

  50. Love the nine patch. I wish I could join in, but sadly my machine is out of order. I'm going through sewing withdrawals. But if you want another swap here's one that's just getting started!

  51. Wait a minute. YOU *WON* a quilt?!?!?!?!?!?!? lol

Thanks for the Proflowers tip. I told Joe about it. He did order some for me for Valentines Day.

  52. I just read this post this morning and remembered that my boyfriend sent me some flowers from ProFlowers this year. I didn't think much of it, but on a whim, I decided to e-mail him this afternoon to tell him to check his credit card statements. Since he's pretty attentive when it comes to money matters, I figured he'd have noticed if he was getting some weird charge.

Lo and behold, they've been charging him since March! He called today, yelled at the Easy Saver people, and sent ProFlowers a nastygram. Thank you so much for telling everyone about this!

  53. I have never quilt before but am inspired by the idea of one 9 patch block a day so I started mine. Yours is so very pretty!! I am VERY behind....only the first 11 blocks done and I had to buy fabric since I really didn't have any around to work with. If I am not too late, I would love to join this quilt-a-long and post a picture of those first blocks. Thanks! Connie

  54. you're making quite the progress! I'm hoping to get a large chunk of blocks sewn up this weekend.

  55. I am so glad that I came across your blog and got involved in this 9 patch quilt along! It has gotten me motivated again to quilt. I'm having the best time and just wanted to say Thank You!!

I know I am jumping ahead, but could you tell me how wide the sashing strips will be. I am trying to decide the size of the quilt ( queen?) and how many yards of white fabric I would need. Thanks! This quilt-a-long has been such fun for me.

  57. I am a late comer, but I have 40 nine patches that I did on Monday, so I will pop in here and continue on with making them. I love what you've done, and it's a great challenge. I tell you, I could make nine patches for the next 100 years and not run out of fabric, I don't think!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am at 41 squares too. I think that puts me where I should be maybe a day or two ahead. Thanks again for the motivation!!!

Oh, you lucky girl on your beach quilt!

  59. Okay, so I can't even remember how I came across this blog. I just.. did. I got a sewing machine for Christmas last December and decided it was time to try a quilt. So I looked at the Oh, Frannson quilting website and decided that that quilt along was waaaay too difficult. Then I saw this 9-patch quilt and decided I would do that. So I went to Hobby Lobby, picked out 3 coordinating prints and 4 or 5 matching solids and went to town for a week cutting out all my squares. I decided it would be 49 patches total-- 7 across and 7 down. Now I have all the squares laid out on our guest bed and I have the first 2 rows all sewn and ironed and everything. It takes a lot of time (especially since I'm a new mom) but it's so fun to have this project. I've been researching this sashing stuff and hopefully I can make it work when it comes time. The End.
