In my post on Monday, I had a question about what my stash looks like right now.
This is just for you, Debbie in Wa.
I've been working on stash busting, and I think I've been doing pretty well.
These are 1 yard pieces or less.
I'm excited, because I'm down to only two drawers of fabric.
I use the happy zombie's folding method for these pieces. I love it!
Then I have this large stack...my "flat folds", as I call them.
These are yard and a half pieces or larger.
I don't want to know how many yards are in this stack.
Many many yards.
These are set aside because they will eventually become a king size quilt for my bed.
This is going to be one girly quilt.
My husband will be so pleased. ha!
This stack alone is about 10-11 yards.
Then I have my charm pack stash-they are from various lines.
I LOVE charm packs!
I feel like my stash is pretty well under control.
Or am I in complete denial?
And then there are my scraps.
Now they are out. of. control.
How do you fold your fabric so it looks all neat like that? I've been thinking I need to organize mine.
ReplyDeleteAt least your stash looks neat and organized, unlike my ungodly mess. Your husband must be like mine--not bothered by all the girliness in our house. He figures that as long as he has a wife who loves him, the pinks and bows don't compromise his manhood in the least.

ReplyDeleteNice thing is my husband doesn't care what is on the bed, just as long as it is warm. Maybe I'll make myself a girly quilt for our bed and see what his reaction will be.
If that's your entire stash it is totally under control!

Damn, that is neat! I'm jealous. I just have a dozen bins, all organized by colour, but not size. At one point everything inside was folded...

ReplyDeletewow, i'm trying to organize my craft/laundry room today and it's killing me. i was working on scrapbook stuff last night and it's like it exploded from 2 boxes to about 9 while getting "sorted". yikes! yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteYour stash is very under control and super organized. Love that. I know what you mean about scraps. That's what I'm doing today, ironing and cutting scraps into squares. I don't think I'll ever finish!

ReplyDeleteYour post about organizing reminded me to ask how you organize all your fabric? Whenever I start I can't figure out if I should keep it by yardage, by color, by designer or what so when I get ready to put something together I can find it. Thanks for showing us how to fold it so neatly!
Oh Amandajean...you are WAY under control. We need to take you out and get you properly trained! You need BIG sloppy piles -- just wait a few more years LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say, beyond the oohs and aahs at your neatly stacked stash and organization saviness, is that I envy you. To have a stash like that is remarkable. So many pretty fabrics (other than the hand-me-down flea market ugly brown and puke green rejected seventies prints I was raised on). I'm a fat quarter junkie myself, and someday I'll get a quilt done. Thanks for your inspiration!

ReplyDeleteabout 4-5 charm packs make a nice sized lap quilt. it all depends on how many are in the pack, though. my christmas charm quilt used 192 squares. if you are short a few squares, you can always buy a fat quarter of the same line and cut a few extra 5" squares to fill in the amount you need.

ReplyDeleteI like to sort by color mainly. if my yardage is substantial (like my flat folds) i have no choice but to set it aside. i also sort my scraps by color, which helps a lot, too. this system has worked very well for me, so i am going to stick with it. :)

I so am in love with your stash, but are you serious??? You need more fabric. You need more fabric. You need more fabric! Otherwise, I will die of embarassment every time I look at mine and think "well, I could use a few more (greens, pinks, browns...).

I have all my fat quarters in two dresser drawers and all the rest of the fabric is on two tall metal racks. I really need to get back into my quilts again, will have to work around the two grandbabies. My husband still thinks I have the store when it comes to fabric, guess I better get cutting!

I too have a desire to write quilt patterns... I've even got my first pattern in the draft stage. You're right about writting it being tricky... designing doesn't seem to be any trouble, but making it clear for other people can be.
