In my post on Monday, I had a question about what my stash looks like right now.
This is just for you, Debbie in Wa.
I've been working on stash busting, and I think I've been doing pretty well.
These are 1 yard pieces or less.
I'm excited, because I'm down to only two drawers of fabric.
I use the happy zombie's folding method for these pieces. I love it!
Then I have this large stack...my "flat folds", as I call them.
I don't want to know how many yards are in this stack.
Many many yards.
These are set aside because they will eventually become a king size quilt for my bed.
This is going to be one girly quilt.
My husband will be so pleased. ha!
This stack alone is about 10-11 yards.
I LOVE charm packs!
I feel like my stash is pretty well under control.
Or am I in complete denial?
And then there are my scraps.
Now they are out. of. control.
How do you fold your fabric so it looks all neat like that? I've been thinking I need to organize mine.
At least your stash looks neat and organized, unlike my ungodly mess. Your husband must be like mine--not bothered by all the girliness in our house. He figures that as long as he has a wife who loves him, the pinks and bows don't compromise his manhood in the least.
Hey, i love your organized fabric...so pretty! I am posting about you on my blog today...is that ok? You are inspirational.
It's under control! and beautiful :)
Writing patterns is tricky - hope your done soon, I want to see :)
Wow. I almost went into cardiac arrest because I didn't realize there were more pictures after the first one and I was afraid you'd gone mad and threw out fabic or something. :)
i added a link in the post to the folding technique i use. i'd highly recommend it!
You have a great stash! They look so pretty and happy all folded and stacked so neatly. Good luck with your pattern writing!
WOW!- I wish I was as organized as you, I wish I had a stash like you, well, just WOW!
Your stash is just beautiful.
whow!!! thats what i call a stash :)
How nice, neat and COLORFUL your stash is! Are they in plastic totes or in drawers? How do you store it?
Nice thing is my husband doesn't care what is on the bed, just as long as it is warm. Maybe I'll make myself a girly quilt for our bed and see what his reaction will be.
If that's your entire stash it is totally under control!
I love the fabric for your bedroom quilt. I think your stash looks completely under control.
Amanda Jean...thanks for the Flea Market Fancy directions. I posted my baby version on my blog yesterday, if you want to check it out.
about the fabric that is in plastic drawers-those drawers are part of a 3 drawer rolling cart.
Damn, that is neat! I'm jealous. I just have a dozen bins, all organized by colour, but not size. At one point everything inside was folded...
It looks very "in control" to, and extremely neat!
Beautifully organized, controlled stash!
wow, i'm trying to organize my craft/laundry room today and it's killing me. i was working on scrapbook stuff last night and it's like it exploded from 2 boxes to about 9 while getting "sorted". yikes! yours looks great!
Your stash is very under control and super organized. Love that. I know what you mean about scraps. That's what I'm doing today, ironing and cutting scraps into squares. I don't think I'll ever finish!
i feel the same way about my scraps...everything else is pretty under control... but the scraps oh that just gives me a headache just thinking about it!
Umm, yeah. I agree that your stash is definitely under control. After seeing that, I would say that my stash is definitely OUT of control.
You are doing great on your stash! I have done nothing but buy for the last month so I guess I better get sewing!
Your post about organizing reminded me to ask how you organize all your fabric? Whenever I start I can't figure out if I should keep it by yardage, by color, by designer or what so when I get ready to put something together I can find it. Thanks for showing us how to fold it so neatly!
Oh Amandajean...you are WAY under control. We need to take you out and get you properly trained! You need BIG sloppy piles -- just wait a few more years LOL!!!
All I can say, beyond the oohs and aahs at your neatly stacked stash and organization saviness, is that I envy you. To have a stash like that is remarkable. So many pretty fabrics (other than the hand-me-down flea market ugly brown and puke green rejected seventies prints I was raised on). I'm a fat quarter junkie myself, and someday I'll get a quilt done. Thanks for your inspiration!
You are so in control! Amazing! Neatly folded fabric, nicely stashed in its place. Hmmmm.... unlike me! But boy is yours just pretty to look at, love it!
Just beautifully organised! You have such pretty colours.
Yummy shots of delicious prints! They make me so happy ... ahhh, well, the only ones I have are the ones I paint or print myself. Thanks for the zen photos!
ohhhhhhhhhhhh, love your stash pictures! I love that fabric for your bed quilt and those CHARMS!!!
Woah! That's a lot of neatly folded fabric!
I am very envious of your stash!
oh, i love your stash. mine is going so quickly now that i have been making more quilts. time to buy more fabric i guess!
I'm so jealous. What a beautiful stash. I'm slowly building mine up. My problem, is that I get so many beautiful fabrics and then I'm afraid to use them...They're just so pretty on my shelf - but they are even prettier in the projects that I make.
Nice and neat and pretty.
ohhhh, so nice and organized. love it.
side note, how many charm packs do you buy at a time? i always like the idea but never really know how many would be needed to look decent in a quilt. thoughts?
One can never have enough chocolate or fabic! Looks great to me.
I am sooooo..envious. Thanks for the tip on how to fold the fabric. Now if I could just do that, life would probably be much simpler than having to root around until I find what I'm looking for.
One more thing to add to my to-do list.*lol*
I had found you a long time ago and thought wow I would love to learn to quilt. I thought it was great you give step by step tutorials. Then dummy me forgot to put you in my favorites so after surfing forever and a day I found you once again. So alas I am doing the happy dance again! I look forward to learning from you!
about 4-5 charm packs make a nice sized lap quilt. it all depends on how many are in the pack, though. my christmas charm quilt used 192 squares. if you are short a few squares, you can always buy a fat quarter of the same line and cut a few extra 5" squares to fill in the amount you need.
I like to sort by color mainly. if my yardage is substantial (like my flat folds) i have no choice but to set it aside. i also sort my scraps by color, which helps a lot, too. this system has worked very well for me, so i am going to stick with it. :)
Look at all the comments you got, I like my stash folded all nice and neat like that too, otherwise, I forget what I have!! Love it ALL!!!
Oh heavenly stash!!! And I bet you have the best scraps ever! Can't wait to see your girly quilt (I LOVE that fabric) and to see what you're cookin' up (pattern writing) too!
Pattern writing can be such a challenge for me! Whaaat... you mean you can't read my scribbles on my cocktail napkin???
Very nice and neat! Such cute fabrics you have (from what I can tell!). What is that number fabric?
I love your blog! I just finished a log cabin block quilt from it few weeks ago!
I have what is probably a "yeah right, in your dreams" question. Do you ever do giveaways with your scrap pile?
the number fabric is actually a duvet cover from IKEA. someday it will probably become a few quilt backs.
i haven't ever done a give away from my scrap pile.
Your neatness puts me to shame! Shame I tell you!! Now let me ask you something...haven't you heard that a quilter with a neat stash is a sign of a sick mind?!? Now you know what kind of quilter I am! Love the blog! xo, Nan
You're in control now, girl!
I'm a charms gal too. So much fun to sew with.
Oh, what a beautiful stash to work from!!!
And I know what you mean about pattern writing -- I promised some friends a pattern of the little reversible purses I've been making for birthday presents. It's my first time and it's harder than I thought.
Anyway, about figuring yardage requirements, have you seen this calculator? http://vrya.net/quilt/flash/QuiltCalc_Loader.html If not, hope it helps!!!
I so am in love with your stash, but are you serious??? You need more fabric. You need more fabric. You need more fabric! Otherwise, I will die of embarassment every time I look at mine and think "well, I could use a few more (greens, pinks, browns...).
I do love just about everything you've made but never in a million years would have thought to do what you've done with them. Simplicity is key. You are GENIUS!
That's it? With all the variety in your quilts, I would have thought there'd be much more!
I covet your pile of charm packs. :)
I LOVE your stash...and it is so amazingly organized!!! I see that lots of other people agree with me!
Oh your stash is SO pretty. And I'd say that it's quite modest for the amount of sewing you do! I'm impressed. My stash is such a disaster that looking at yours is making me want to tidy it up!
lovely stash!! i have to agree, and love charm packs too. i really enjoyed my last one from quilt taffy since it was custom. i need some more custom ones! :)
I love the stash organization. I love looking at everybody's fabric!
I meant to email you and ask you about the size needle you use for quilting. Also do you think a combination of too large a needle plus polyester thread could be causing the machine to make larger holes as I quilt? I am not sure if it makes sense, but feel free to email me.
So enjoy your stuff! Inspiration.

You are so organized. I envy you so. That is probably why you get so much done.
Wow so organized! I'd say you've got a good stash going. Its enough to always leave you with something to work on.
Im a beginner quilter so I dont have much of a stash at all yet. but when I do I plan to keep it that organized! :D
Looking forward to seeing the project your conjuring up!
My stash starts out neat, then I start going through it as I am working on something and that is the end of that, lol.
If that is all of your stash (not holding out on us) That is very good. Scraps are a different category all their own. I need to find more things to do with scraps...
I have major stash envy now. I have only just started sewing and I have NO stash at all :( :( not even an itsy bitsy teeny tiny bit
I wish mine looked like that. I like the folding tip tho...and I'm going to use it.
What a stellar stash!! Seeing your stash has me wanting inspired to organize mine. It needs to be folded up neatly again.
Thanks for sharing ~ you always inspired me to sew, knit and now organize my stash!
niiiccee! It doesn't look too bad! In fact, I think you could add a few more things to that stash without it looking too cluttered. ;-)
Guess what I'm doing today? Re-folding my fabric! Thanks for the tips!
oh.. I envy you..... or hate you...... where is the frontier??
Wow, i am impressed! I've been trying to do this for a year now. Very slow progress going on at my house.
I am currently working on a candy-bar road quilt with that "wee play" fabric you have pictured in your stash! All thanks to you :) (I was so excited to see it in your picture)
Thank you for showing your stash. I too am very organized when it comes to fabric. I have all my fat quarters in two dresser drawers and all the rest of the fabric is on two tall metal racks. I really need to get back into my quilts again, will have to work around the two grandbabies. My husband still thinks I have the store when it comes to fabric, guess I better get cutting!
thanks for sharing it is nice to "look" through someone else's stash...right now i have three big rubbermaid buckets. i should try stash busting. i am sure my husband would appreciate that.
Luckily my scraps aren't out of control ... And that's because I'm adding to YOUR out-of-control scrap pile. Sorry. Let me know when and if you are ready for more ... (I don't have much right now).
Thank you for sharing lovely pictures of your stash.
So pretty and organized :)
I too have a desire to write quilt patterns... I've even got my first pattern in the draft stage. You're right about writting it being tricky... designing doesn't seem to be any trouble, but making it clear for other people can be.
Part of what I LOVE about quilting is the MATH! If you'd like some help with calculating yardage... I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to help.
Just shoot me an email and we'll figure out all those numbers. :D
this is a very manageable stash...i need to do some stash bustin'
fun stash! It looks like you're doing well with the fabric reduction!
I wish my stash was bigger!!! This economy is really putting a damper on my fabric addiction
OH! I LOVE your organized stash! Could you come to my house and help me? Your stash is completely under control and you are not in denial!!
Wow. You are totally in control. I can't believe that's all the fabric you have...you are seriously very good.....which makes me realize how bad I am. Good luck with the pattern, can't wait to see it!
Oh I *must* see the scraps, come ooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnn. We won't judge :)
Such wonderful loveliness!! And the organization of it all inspires me to clean up my own stash. Thanks for all you do. :)
YES, Congratulations! I must say, you do have your fabric stash under control! It looks nice. However, I am wondering how big your drawers are ;-).
i love your stash. i'm drooling looking at all that fabric.
Love the way you folded your stash. I'm ashamed to say I have 33 totes of fabric (64 qt size). That is just ridiculous & Moda needs to quit making fabric for a few years so I can use up what I have on hand! :)
In complete denial.... but aren‘t we all...LOL! And jealous of your wonderful coloured stashes!!
What a beautiful post of colour!! So organized you are! I have been enjoying your blog and thanks for all the tutorials. Lots of inspiration. Heather
You really need more fabric. Take me shopping with you. I'll help.
Your stash is beautiful. I can't believe you fit it in 2 drawers.
You stash is so well organized! You seem to really keep on top of your things. I wish I were half as organized!
WoW I love the way fabric neatly folded and organized looks! Your stash is beautiful-bet you never thought you would hear that line huh? LOL! You are one lucky girl-no wonder you can pump out so many quilts! Sooo let us in on how you keep re-stocking your stash without braking your bank account?
Love the stash. It sure makes it a lot easier to sew when you are organized! Thanks for the pics.
