I am trying to figure out how to put my spectrum quilt together.

If I did it as planned, I have enough to make a king size plus. So that idea is out.
King size quilts are my limit.
I folded each strip in half, so some white shows through between the strips.
Getting closer.
And if you look at this version, without the extreme darks, I like it even more.
I just don't know what to do with it.
I have created a monster. No doubt about it.
The thought of cutting it the long way and making a ton of patchwork products crossed my mind. But then again, I am not ready to give up on this crazy quilt.
I welcome your suggestions, if you would be so kind.

ReplyDeleteI think your last version is great, seems softer with the darkest of the darks out of the picture. Are you going to sash it or just stitch each segment together?
ReplyDeleteI like the last photo without the really dark pieces but with some white showing. You can always make pillow shams with leftover scraps.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the second photo, especially with the staggering of the rows. I think the darker part really adds some depth to the quilt.

ReplyDeleteI like the first picture, the king size - if you don't want to make it so big you could cut off some and make an accent pillow out of what's extra! I think it's beautiful either way - I love the gradations of color - really really pretty! Em

ReplyDeleteYou could make a reversible/pieced back quilt if you want to use all of the strips in a single quilt.

It's so fun to come to you sight and see what you have going on. You inspire me!! I love your style and all that comes with it. No matter what you do it's going to look great-you have that knack!!

ReplyDeleteI too prefer in the softer version... or you could have a softer version on one side and a darker version on the other...

Hi, I've frequented your blog many many times...just love you're quilting creativity. My suggestion is that you go with the third picture. But I would mix up the strips a bit. It seems like (and you've mentioned in earlier posts) that you have lots of pink/redish tones. I would bring the green and purple strips "into" the quilt a little more and then pushthe redish ones out a bit. I think this might help out with the color layout. What a fun project. I've loved watching it unfold!

What about making it into a chromatic spiral? Kind of spiraling around itself like a greek key would with right angles. Just an idea!

ReplyDeletescroll down to 'coins a plenty'.. it has red sashing and it adds something to it.. I have seen this quilt made with many colours of sashing but I prefer softer colours as well..
PS I think I might have to sign up for your block of the week challenge too.. too tempting!
I am going to agree with the comment suggesting a light and dark side (reversable) quilt. I like the lighter colors by themselves and think darks together would be great. I also like the strips with the neutral between the strip sets.
