I finished my black licorice quilt top! I worked on it quite a bit over the weekend and I was delighted to discover this morning that I only had 2 seams left to complete it. What a way to start a Monday!
Each piece finishes at 1 1/2" x 2". There are 42 blocks in each row and 37 rows, for a total of 1,554 pieces!!!! It's a good thing I did the math AFTER the quilt top was complete rather than before, otherwise that might have been a little daunting. Ha!
I think it's tricky to find that fine line of being out of your comfort zone, but still liking the results. I feel like I was able to accomplish that with this quilt and I'm so thankful!
This quilt is part of my "Salute to Solids" series. I have plans to give it to my daughter when it's complete. She's pretty excited about it!
Happy Monday to you!
Very beautiful finish. I like the secondary patterns that show up, they seem to vibrate and shift.
ReplyDeleteStunning! Well done you! I feel inspired to order some plain black and create something with my scraps!
ReplyDeleteThis truly looks edible.... night time in South Africa so luckily no shops open to buy All Sorts!!
ReplyDeleteI love it. The perfect way to use colourful scraps!
ReplyDeleteWow, it certainly looks Like licorice all sorts! Those colours against the back look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteLovely. Nice mix of black and bright colors!
ReplyDeleteI love the bold colors against the black. Reminds me of a Lite-Brite! What a fun quilt :D
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!
ReplyDeleteThis just jumps!!!! It is gorgeous and easy to look at. Paula in KY
ReplyDeleteI love this look! Any idea how many different solid colors were used to create it? Wondering if I have enough to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks great.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! Thanks for sharing. I've found I really like black and grey backgrounds and have a few quilts with black backgrounds in the planning stages.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! It just sparkles.
ReplyDeleteI'm in love!.Great job i want one too!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, I guess the size is about 63" by 74". How will you quilt it?
ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing! Truly makes a statement! If your daughter changes her mind, my address is.........;)
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Love the way this looks up close and as a whole!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is STUNNING and you are crazy!?!? I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautiful. I like that that they are rectangles instead of squares. I think it gives it a little more interest. Maybe you have tempted me to start on one of these? Hhhmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI love how the black makes the colors pop, and the dark blues look like a plus here and there from a distance. A fun quilt, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm closing in on the finish for a Scrapper's Delight quilt. Most of the blocks are nearly complete. I've wanted to make this quilt since I saw it in person in Blaine at The Calla Lily many years ago. At that time, I was a new quilter, and didn't have enough scraps to even consider it. Now I could make Six!
Thanks for continuing to inspire!
It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Doing the math ahead of time would have been very daunting indeed.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love, love, love this quilt!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you posted this, Amanda. It totally inspires me! Winter is coming and I love having things to drool over and consider. Your work makes me tick!
ReplyDeleteI just love the look of this one with the dark background rather than the typical white. And I like the rectangles rather than squares. Both give it the perfect twist. Totally see why your daughter wants this one.
ReplyDeleteIt’s beautiful and I love it! Hugs,
ReplyDeleteIt's Yummy!
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThis is just striking! I am normally not a fan of black (or brown, for that matter), but the way you've arranged black with the bright colors... awesome! I adore it! I have no doubt your daughter does too. She has excellent taste. :-) Have fun with quilting now.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! It is very striking! Beautiful! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteSimple yet Stunning!
ReplyDeleteI just love your sparkly quilt! What patience to make it....Cherri House wrote a quilt book, and has a pattern in it called City Lights. I made this quilt with 6 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangles and loved the result. Unfortunately I gave it to someone, so don't have a photo to share. But the "black against bright colors" concept in both patterns is very effective and pleasing.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great quilt! I love the color!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! It sparkles, and it makes me hungry for Allsorts! I saw it first thing Monday morning on IG. I was on my way to work after a weekend retreat, where I had won 100+ solid strips of fabric in the strip tease game. Would you mind if I make the same quilt? I will give you full credit for the inspiration. It seems like it was meant to be my next quilt project!?
ReplyDeleteWOW! You are the queen of little pieces! That quilt is amazing! Thank you for sharing it and inspiring the rest of us!
ReplyDeleteI just have to ask because this is genius. Did you plan the light nearly Irish Chain Pattern and the dark Plusses and edited them in on purpose?
