Last evening my machine was humming because I was in a race to beat the sunset. I wanted to capture a decent photo of the quilt top before the light escaped. It's a tricky game to play, as my son says, but I'm thankful that I won. :)
You guys! I'm so happy with this quilt top! It needs a good name, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
If you've been following along with the quilt along, you already know that this is a slightly smaller version of my June quilt from my book No Scrap Left Behind.
The top measures about 51" x 68" or so. I'm pleased that the top is done, just as June comes to a close. Hurray for finishing the top! Boo for June being done. (It's one of my favorite months!)
I had another finish this week....a pair of Maine Morning Mitts. Knitting hand warmers in June is totally reasonable, right? My daughter actually wore them for a few days. Silly girl!
Last weekend we took a quick trip to Iowa for my niece's graduation party, so this is one of the projects I took along to work on in the car. I have been stalled out on this project because they needed thumbs and I hate knitting thumbs! My motivation? I wanted to use the leftover yarn to make knit pincushions. Hahahaha! I'm so glad I had the motivation to finish them!
They are for my daughter and she LOVES them. Also, she was a willing model and the last photo was her idea. It was a lot of fun to photograph them with her!
The pattern is Maine Morning Mitts, which can be found here.
Yarn is by The Yarns of Rhichard DeVrieze. The colorway is Kimberly. (Worsted weight, knit on size 7 needles.)
Tomorrow is July 1 and I decided that I am going to revisit my one a day pincushion challenge. I had so much fun with it last year and I'm super excited to try it again. I hope you enjoy following along!
Just a quick note....I've decided that from here on out, I will keep the link up open for two days rather than one, so you have a bit more time to share your finishes. I hope that's helpful!
Now, it's your turn. Please link up your finishes for the week. Thanks, as always, for joining me for finish it up Friday!
Your quilt is bright and perky! How about "crosswalks"? It reminds me of city blocks from above and your scrappy rectangles are the crosswalks.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of Cherry Pie :)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE your new quilt top (and the mitts, too!!) My sewing machine was humming, but I ended up having company and didn't finish my own June quilt QAL top. :o((
ReplyDeleteSoon, though!!! :o))
Thanks, again, for offering the quilt-along. It was SEW much FUN!!!
I know it's summer, but what about String Fling?
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI love the quilt! In my mind it's already called "It's a tricky game to play" - just cause that is cute, and I love that game. I often play a version myself. The fingerless gloves are the best! I use a pair because of the a/c at work is SO cold but I still need to type. I am sure I could find some sales for you . . . ~smile~ Roseanne P.S. Thank you again for hosting!
Yaaaas! I love the red polka dots set off by all those low volumes. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the comment that it reminds Jill of Cherry Pie! Yes!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! I would call it Cherry on Top because it reminds me of an ice cream sundae!
ReplyDeleteI feel like this quilt is so very quentessentilly YOU. I mean Red polkadot, distinct aqua, low volume, scrappy. Pretty sure when I think of what you've declared as your favs over the years, this one has almost everything, AND no purple! ✌🏼
ReplyDeleteI'd name it "Abbey road". Great job!
ReplyDeleteHaha - I love your motivation for finishing the mittens was so you could have the scraps. That makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric and color choices. My #junequiltqal couldn't be more opposite! It does look like a lattice top cherry pie. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI have loved seeing all the versions of your quilt online, and have fabric for my own version after I finish my niece's graduation quilt. The red and white polka dot fabrics remind me of Minnie Mouse... and Minnie sounds like "many"... and since you used many scraps in the quilt, I would name it Minnie Scraps. ;-) Looking forward to the daily pincushions!!!
ReplyDeletethe first thing I thought of when I saw your quilt was Polka Dot Picnic. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and am going to get the book to make my own. What do you use to fill your pincushions?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the name of Bomb Pop, like the ice cream. Great combination of colors.
ReplyDeleteIt DOES look like a cherry pie (as mentioned in a comment above).
ReplyDeleteAND I've got a finish so I can linkup - many thanks for hosting.
my daughter sits very close to the A/C vent at work with no way of moving her desk - she has some short hand gloves like that I crocheted for her that she uses all summer long - some people laugh but then when they see how cold she gets they try to come up with ways she could move her space too only to see she can't. she actually has a space heater under her desk to warm up now and then (the vent is on the ceiling so can not shut it as it is for an area more than her space)
ReplyDeleteYou could call the quilt "Dotty." I think my Aunt Dot would have enjoyed this quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting finish it up Friday every week!
Hi, Amanda! The first thing I thought of when I saw your quilt top was "raspberry sorbet". Yum!
ReplyDeleteStrawberry pie!
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt top - I would call it Strawberry Fields.
ReplyDeleteThe red dots remind me of stop signs on the low volume roadways. My name is Four Way Stop. Love this quilt! Purchased your book and I have enjoyed spending time with it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a picnic blanket and a picket fence. How about "Picnic Fence"? I love how it turned out. Such a happy quilt!

ReplyDeleteYour quilt top looks great and I'm looking forward to making one myself at our retreat next weekend. Thank you for demonstrating this and providing the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI agree with others that it reminds me of pie. What about Pie and Ice Cream? Yum!
ReplyDeleteLooking at your quilt, it reminded me of Hopscotch. Love it and the green version and I'm working on a QOV version too. I'll send a photo when it's done (putting the rows together now). Thanks for your great ideas and great book and great blog and EVERYTHING!! Happy 4th!!
ReplyDeleteMy very first thought was "summer picnic". Love the colors!
ReplyDeleteI thought picnic immediately
DeleteYour quilt is beautiful, just love it!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is beautiful. Your son should name it: He seems to have a talent with words. Thanks so much for hosting the QAL. I enjoyed every moment of working on my version and am wonderfully pleased with the outcome.
ReplyDeleteTo me this is a joyful, lighthearted quilt so I think it's name should be "Winsome"!
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt! The polka dots work perfectly. I will have to keep the pattern in my back pocket.
ReplyDeleteI love love love this version. I missed the quilt along which has gutted me a bit. But loving seeing what happened.
ReplyDeleteQuilt name - "Gorgeous" :)
ReplyDeleteLove those spots! I was thinking something like "Trellis" or "Lattice"? "Summer Trellis"? Whatever you decide, its a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteHow about Checkers and Chess? It's a fun quilt, the grid layout suggests a games board, and the polka dots look like checkers pieces laid out ready for a game.
ReplyDeleteSquare Dance !!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I LOVE this quilt! How about Polka Dot Walk?
ReplyDeleteOh my, I LOVE this quilt! How about Polka Dot Walk?
ReplyDeleteLooks great! What about Diamond Dot Crossing?
ReplyDeleteYour quilt top is beautiful! All those red and white polka dots remind me of Minnie Mouse! Loving those Maine Mitts! Don't know if I could do those thumbs, though. My knitting skills are pretty limited. I've been stopping every once in awhile and having fun piecing a few pin cushions from my scrap box. They are fun! I can understand your obsession! Enjoy the holiday!
ReplyDeleteThe red polka dots are very eye catching. It reminds me of cherries that are now in season. The blue..plums The low volume area reminds me of a path or walkway...Hmm...how about
ReplyDeleteCherry Orchard
Plum cherry Jam

ReplyDeletePolka dots in June, in honor of your favorite month. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a Summer Trellis to me. I expect to see grapes growing when I look at it
ReplyDeleteI think cherry basket would be a good name for ur quilt! So pretty!!:)
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour low volume prints look lacey in the photo, so I would call it "Strawberries and Lace"!
ReplyDeleteCan,t help but think of cute little Minnie Mouse! Minnie's Playground
ReplyDeleteFirst thing that came to my mind was "Dotty Mae". So femine and...oh those dots.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt! I'd call her Dottie Scrapsalot.
ReplyDeletePicnic Party!
ReplyDeleteWhat a Fun and happy quilt. I'm with amy, the red dot fabric immediately reminded me of Minnie Mouse. I love the pie comments too. How about Minnie's apple pie!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a picnic cloth so I'd call it 'Summer Picnic':)
ReplyDeleteI see someone already said 'Summer Picnic' so how about 'Picnic in the Park'?
ReplyDeleteI saw roads so I thought of "Dotty Street". It turned out great & I got the great ruler fir my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteCriss Cross Applesauce? Or something with the word picnic in it? Lovely!
ReplyDeleteFor something really different, how 'bout "Dots on Point"? That's what my eyes saw. It really is pretty! ---"Love"

ReplyDeleteI think "Around the Block"
ReplyDelete"Picnic" comes to mind!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt! How about "Cherry Pie Maze" or "Dotty's Maze"
ReplyDeleteI've been calling that gorgeous quilt Cherry Pie every since I first saw it !!
ReplyDelete"Dot, Dot, Stripe"
ReplyDeleteIt looks like "Independence" would be an appropriate name. It is made for the 4th of July - our Independence Day - and the red white and blue used are independent versions of the traditional red, white and blue colors.
ReplyDeleteNo ideas on names this morning but the quilt is so fun! And I am excited about pincushion a day! Pin cushions are my go to project when I just want to sew a little and have a quick finish!
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed your "June" sew-a-long. Perhaps you could call your quilt "Spot On" or "Stringing Along with Dots". My background is a turquoise batik with what looks like fireworks all over it so there will be no problem naming mine "String-a-long Fireworks". Thanks for sharing your pattern in a sew-a-long.
ReplyDeleteHow about "Dot Dash Dot", like in Morse code.
ReplyDeleteVery charming, by the way!
Quilt name: Trellis
ReplyDeletethe red dot reminds me of strawberries. strawberry fields forever loL
ReplyDeleteRed spots and Aqua is seriously my most favourite combo ever! This is like my dream quilt. I would call it "Nell's sweet dreams" but I totally understand if you go with something else lol.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like her name could be "Dot" :)
ReplyDeleteI'd say your daughter is crazy like a fox! Very "cool" heart, by the way. The sunset captured every color nuance in the quilt strips. Worth the rush, I'd say (and you won). I've never checked out your site before but this caught my eye as it showed up on a bloglovin' list. And my suggested name: At Every Corner. Cheers -- Tree
