new and old WIPs
Well, I broke down and started a new quilt this week. I've been wanting to make this quilt for months. Lots of cutting, sewing and trimming happening over here....but, it's going to be worth it! I am already loving it.
This is so far out of my color comfort zone, but it's a nice change of pace. A lot of my friends (who gave me their scraps) like black and white and blue, apparently. I had plenty of gray and white. :)
When it's all said and done, there will be 585 HSTs in the quilt. That's not terrible, I guess....
And, because one can only make so many triangles in a few days....I switched back to quilting for a bit. This one is taking a long time to quilt, but I'm getting there! (You can see the quilt top here.) There will be plenty of opportunity to let go of my perfectionist tendencies in regards to the quilting. Wouldn't be the first time! Probably won't be the last, either. Finished is better than perfect, right?

Thinking this must be the quilt you mentioned in the podcast that Sandie hosts? I was listening to you last evening and really enjoyed your interview. Totally can't believe it's been 10 years since you started blogging! Where DID the time go? lol

ReplyDeleteI'm binding a queen-sized quilt that I started close to 20 years ago. I finally finished the hand quilting this week. It's been a lesson in perseverance.
Both of these quilts will look great! Love them!!

ReplyDeleteTaking a break from creating 585 HSTs sounds like a good plan, and I hope they will come together quickly without being too monotonous that way. I had high hopes for having a quilt finished by Friday, but now I'm aiming for a quilt top and maybe half the quilting. We'll see!
ReplyDeleteI really love the HST quilt - I've just finished one and the simple pattern is so effective. I also love the quilt pattern you are doing on the purple quilt. I have been looking for an online tutorial to help with getting started doing this pattern. Do you know where I can find one?

Getting the points right on a HST is such a challenge for me. I can't imagine doing that many! Looking good so far. Can't wait to see the finished project.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I really struggle to post a comment in this blogger format. My choices to identify myself do include the ability to use my Wordpress account, but it has a default address of "http:". Less than a year ago, WP changed all their accounts to "https:" If I use my address, it looks like "http:https://...." and that doesn't work. So I have to attempt another one of the choices and I usually get it wrong. It's nothing you can change I know, I just wanted to share.
Love your quilting. Who will ever know if you did something wrong on it? I have a top that I planned to quilt like that. You have confirmed my suspicion that it will take a while to complete, but I like the look. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the muted colors on the HST quilt. I am starting my Grand niece's cross stitched Christmas Stocking today - it will be #48 that I have done. Still chugging along on EPP hexies lap quilt.

Love this quilt too! For your quilting style on this one - did you do it in "rows" across the quilt and then once at the end start a new "row"? love his look - just wondering best way to try it....

ReplyDeleteI didn't quilt this is rows...I quilted it all over, in a random-ish pattern. You could certainly break it down into rows if you feel that would be easier! I found that having a break between quilting sessions helped.
I hope you try it! it's a fun pattern!
