WIP Wednesday

There are never a shortage of projects to work on around here, but I guess that's a good thing. I will never be bored....like, ever again. Ha!
This is a project I've been working on in little bits over the past few weeks. It's going to be a pillow cover. I combined the strips of scraps with strips of denim. I love the contrast and how the colors pop against the dark background. The dark background is also practical for a house with kids. :)
This quilt has been basted for weeks and I'm finally starting to quilt it. This one has high texture potential. The background is Essex Linen (in Flax) and the solids are Oakshott cottons. I love the combination. The squared off stippling is out of my box (hahaha!) so I have to really concentrate when I'm quilting it. (My shoulders are pretty sore, but I know that it will be worth it!) This is a twin size, so I'll break up the quilting over a few days.
I'm making progress on hand quilting my "dot your i's" quilt, too. I'm on the last step, which is quilting just inside each of the circles. I've already quilted the entire background (I stitched in the ditch) and the binding is already done, too. I hope to make good progress on the hand quilting over the holidays. It will be soooo great to have this one complete!

How about you? What are you working on this week? I'd love to hear about your projects!

  1. Besides making some summer clothes, I am about to quilt my Spelling Bee quilt, applique my Christmas Tree quilt and make some more Chuck Nohara blocks. I can SO relate to the 'never bored' comment. I often say, "Better busy than bored!"

    1. Wow! I'd never heard of Chuck Nohara. It's like a whole world of quilting was just opened up for me. So gorgeous!

  2. I am finishing up a little brown scrap rail fence quilt. And a friend has almost convinced me that I should sew a few things other than quilts, so my brain (and project list) is exploding a bit. Now I'm looking at all those projects in all my books that I usually ignore, especially thinking about a few that I could make for Christmas gifts.

  3. These projects are looking great! I love moving projects forward. I finished two quilts this week. I also got a queen size quilt back from the long arm quilter. So I need to trim and bind it.

  4. I really love the twin size quilt you're working on. I can't wait to see it on a Friday. I'm working on a Christmas version of Farm Girl Vintage and making wallets for my nieces for Christmas.

  5. such beautiful works in progress :) Oh, and I meant to answer your question on scraps the other day and then forgot. The hardest thing I find about working with scraps is the extra time it takes to cut ;) I get so used to cutting all of my pieces at once when using precuts and yardage, that I have to step back and tell myself to slow down when using scraps. Most of the time it takes more time to choose the fabrics and cut them than it does to stitch up what I am working on :) But when I remind myself to slow down and enjoy the process, then I don't mind so much ;)

  6. Those little scraps certainly do pop against that denim. It is going to be fabulous. And I'm so happy to see you are doing the linen/Oakshotts. I love that quilt and wish I had thought of that pattern. :)

I feel somewhat of a bond with your squircles. It's going to be sensation with the hand quilting.

  7. I am working on my second drunkards path cut with my new accuquilt go. It was so fast! I have been a garment sewist for 45 years but hadn't tackled curves in quilts. The drunkards path are big (7") but they went together easily. Starting a red/black/white for my nieces graduation from Yale Law school (proud auntie)!

  8. I have never heard of squared off stipling but it looks like something I would like to try. I am so afraid...I have always stitched in the ditch. It's safe there! :) Your quilts are lovely...as always.

  9. I forgot to tell you...I am currently working on some curtains for a garage we are having built. I am using left over fabric to sew creative patchwork curtains. My husband asked for curtains, so I knew buying them would be expensive, but to use leftover fabric..well, that is only my time. (?) Oh, well.....I am having some fun. There is really no pattern...
I am just wondering how to finish them. I want to back them to keep them from fading, but I don't know if I need to put something in the middle. I plan to use spring rods, so don't want them to be heavy. Any suggestions?

  10. like the idea of the darker pillow case. Interestingly enough- I also recently quilted a square type of meander on a customer's quilt. I really had to concentrate on doing straight lines because I am so use to doing curves and swirls.

  12. It's always good to have projects in different stages to give our bodies and minds a break! Love the progress on the circles.

  14. I am working on a crazy scrap quilt. Still need to add borders before I can sandawich it. Need to relearn how to sew clothes. My 31 yr old son has asked that I make him a shirt.😜

  15. So many beautiful projects, Amanda! I haven't hand quilted anything in a long time, but I'm tempted to give it a go again. It would be a long term project for sure :) I really like the middle quilt (the twin one). The small squares lined up in the larger rectangle are very interesting. I'm in the middle of cutting out a bunch of orange peels for a new project. This part is tedious, but as soon as I get to the sewing it will be much more fun! I listened to your interview on the Crafty Planner podcast this week and I really enjoyed getting to hear a bit more about your process and plans.

  16. I'm working on a scrappy, 2.5" square double bed sized quilt. And another project that I'm too ashamed to name as it has literally been years in progress. Really must get moving on that one...

  19. I notice you use a lot of linen. I was wondering what you like about it. Where do you buy it? I love your projects and was thinking about shaking up my usual Kona solids. Thanks!!
