Between now and the end of the year, I'm going to be making quilts for Margaret's Hope Chest and I'd like to invite you to join me! MHC is currently working with a program called A Mother's Hope and they need quilts! The program offers hope and help to mothers who are going through post-partum depression. I know that my transition into motherhood was quite tumultuous, so it's great to know that there is a program out there that is helping young mothers. I think it's a wonderful opportunity to help someone who is going through a tough time with a gift of a quilt!
In a nutshell, here are the specifics:
1. MHC is looking for quilts that measure about 40" x 60". (That's a pretty reasonable size for a quick finish!)
2. They suggest that you make a quilt that you would like to receive yourself....so if you like pink and orange, make a pink an orange quilt. Sounds easy enough, doesn't it?
3. Please include a personal note to the mother who will receive the quilt. It can be about why you chose the color or pattern of the quilt, or a simple note of encouragement. It's up to you!
4. Mail your completed quilts to:
Margaret's Hope Chest
630 Griswold SE
Grand Rapids, MI 49507
This is an on-going program, and the need is great. I'd love it if you would like to help.
I'm continuing to work down the WIP list....and it feels great! Each time I think I will start a new project, I find renewed vigor to finish up an existing one. I don't know how long this will last, but I'm going to ride this wave as long as I can!
I finished up my quilter's palette top this week. (Pattern is available for purchase here.) I kept it simple and finished it with plain cornerstones rather than pinwheels as the pattern shows. I really like the simplicity of this one! It's hard to go wrong with a scrappy quilt. :)
I plan to finish up this quilt soon and donate it!
Beautiful quilt, will make someone feel much better, Love that you use other designers patterns as well as your own and put the link for it!!! thank you. and what a great program, I think it is needed all across America as this problem seems to be widespread and not diagnosed very well.
ReplyDelete'Make a quilt you would like to receive yourself' is always the best advice when making stuff to donate. If you do not like it, why assume someone else will?
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. It will be adored in its new home.
Love this idea. Will be starting a quilt for this project soon. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright and fun colors. Congrats on finishing another UFO.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! So kind of you to donate it to a great cause.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!)))
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post! I'm looking for places to donate. Love your quilt. The background makes the bright blocks really stand out.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt for a valuable cause!
ReplyDeleteThank you for keeping your pulse on charity quilt options. It is good to give!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great charity - and a good suggestion to only make quilts you'd like to receive. Can't wait to see this finished!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter had a second child this July, and suffered from PPD. With therapy and medication, she is now doing well. She and her family visited us this weekend, and I can't believe what a difference a few months have made. I pulled out a quilt from my "haven't found a home yet" pile and will mail it to this group in my daughter's honor. Thanks for pointing out this need.

What a wonderful charity to donate to. And it makes the quilts just that much more special!!
ReplyDeleteSo great! 40x60 can be done whole cloth style too making it a super quick finish!) I love this quilt of yours!
ReplyDeleteI am IN! I have been looking for something like this and then came your post. I will do my best before the holidays but realistically, it will be after so I hope that is okay.
ReplyDeleteI have a scrappy quilt that I made two years ago and it is just like yours. Love the rainbow patchwork. I have heard about Margaret's Hope Chest and it sounds like a wonderful organization. Motherhood is all consuming and sometimes overwhelming. I would be happy to donate a quilt to them. Thanks for letting us know.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great cause! Your quilt will be perfect, so bright and cheerful! XO
